I would not recommend this laptop at all. It is the worst laptop I ve had for a long time.

For starters the screen is now faulty after a few months, lines of dead pixels across the screen.

To summarise;

The fan runs far too noisy even at idle, fan noise has never been a concern to me usually but this is loud enough to drown out music.
Runs too hot.
The screen is extremely grainy due to the touchscreen layer. Far too reflective aswell - when you turn down the brightness for battery use its like a mirror.
Battery is not great - I get an hour and a bit on the 4cell. The big 6cell is doube that.
Build quality is terrible. Creaks when u lean on the palm rest to type. The feet doesnt stand balance, the bottom left is lifted up.

This is from having 2 of them.

Is it small?

Also its probably noisy as it has got an AMD processor inside it.......

I do not trust AMD processors at all I think they are hopeless.

I always wanted a tablet PC, I am now considering the ASUS tablet as it has the centrino duo :)

My DELL D620 is getting old now its got a centrino 2ghz duo, 3gb ram and a 160hdd.... i only kept it as the battery life is amazing, i have been getting in the region of 5-8 hours on it as i got the extended battery and the spare battery that fits into the DVD slot

I was on the verge of buying a tx1340ea (the replacement model for this one I believe) for about £590 after quidco etc., as I really fancied the size of it for travelling with and the tablet features. I had a look at a similar model in PC World the other day and thought it looked cracking for the money as I'd looked at previous HP Tablets in the past at more than twice the price.

When you add the phone into this though, it makes you think twice.

Besides a faster processor and double the memory and slightly smaller hard drive, is there much difference between this and the 1340? I'm pretty sure the one I saw in PC World for £749 was the tx1250 (without the phone that is).

edit: After having a read I decided to go for the tx1250, unfortunately the site won't accept my card! I just get an error :(

edit2: This gets worse.. after trying the first time to order I was advised by the site to try again, which I did. This also failed. I've just called my card provider who tell me both transactions have gone through!! I've emailed HP and will now have to call them in the morning to see what's going on. Has anyone else had problems like this with their ordering system?

Just received a reply to my email, nothing about the £1000 of authorisations/charges against my account.

Thank you for your e-mail.

We can see no reason as to why the order was unsuccessful, however, the online security system has intervened and blocked any orders for 24 hours.

Please give it until tomorrow morning and then call the sales team on 0845 270 4215, who will be happy to place the order on your behalf, checking all details are correct.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Best regards,

I would order by, but there goes my Quidco if I do. Does anyone know where the voucher came from and when it's valid until? As I'm not able to order for over 24 hours now I hope it's for a few days atleast. :(

If I was in your shoes I would stick with your Dell.

The touchscreen is not a digitizer, its the ones that you get on PDAs and that means you have to apply enough pressure for the writing to be recognized.

Yes the dimensions are pretty small, but it is heavy and when you consider that you might want to put the 6cell in for battery life and pack the charger it all gets much heavier for a 12".

The Pros I can think of is that this looks pretty neat, especially the touchpad and the fingerprint reader is much more accurate than my Vaio ones.

I have ordered one

I just could not resist.... might not keep the phone as xmas is coming up so someone will get it in their big stocking :P

Fingers crossed i guess I just want to try the touch screen out....

Why can't I get my card to work on this blooming site. I've left it 24 hours and tried again, I get the same error.

I'll need to give them a ring I suppose and just do it over the phone. What is anoying is that the authorisations won't expire for 4-5 days and my card provider has told me (although I'm not sure they are correct) that this will come off my available credit in the mean time. If this is true, and I try this once more and it fails that could mean my card would have £2200 tied up and probably wouldn't leave me enough to buy it, or anything else for that matter!

Well I spent the first week playing with the touchscreen but never use it anymore. Still keep thinking about using my old lappy as seems to be just as quick as it it using xp and is smaller.

Dont get me wrong its a great lappy but after the excitment of the first week pkaying with all the cool new stuff its just a lappy,

Maybe its me though as I hardly use my ps3, wii, ds lite or nokia 770.

Oh what new toy shall I buy next month!

ordered one. thanks op. when going through quidco search for BGT493EA514.

I finally managed to get my order placed online, using a different credit card and removing the space from my phone number. I'm not sure which one did it, but atleast I'll hopefully get one now.

ya mine come today and its lovely hot post cheers

For those who got the TX1250, does the laptop's fan noticeably loud at idle or low processing stage? How is the texts clarity through the touchpanel? Does it get hot? I am using tablet to read ebook on bed, don't want my partner to be disturbed by the fan noise.
#19
unless she is a very light sleeper you should be ok text is very clear if you turn the screen up a bit
#20
Price has gone up :-( . Not worth a deal now.
