quite alot to alot slower than an i7, about as fast as the slowest i5 processor, but depends what app you are running

still fast for a laptop though and just about still gets classed as a high end cpu - note that the top cpus are very very expensive so unless you have money to burn ignore most cpu's in the top half of the list below

Very badly whether you are looking at apps that support 1, 2 or 4 or more threads. It's not even in the same ball park.

Nothing overly specular in terms of CPU if you are purely interested in benchmarks. Better and worse than the base level first gen i3 (330m).

On the end of a good SSD this machine will be sharp enough for 90% of average users.

...don't forget HP trade in offer, knock the price down by £150 - hot

So for the average user, bit of photo and video editing, you tube, web browsing itunes is this pretty good or do I go for a Macbook I5 and get involved in the whole apple vibe?

Basically a nice enough system. Its true, it is not really quite the same league as an I5 or I7. However, if you like multimedia, and you like doing things that require more quad core stuff, and you like the price, I suspect you'll find it a nice machine for a fair price. If this also has a HP rebate or part exchnage you can claim on, it could go from being an ok deal to a steal!

If you go for a macbook you're likely to pay twice the price for these specs (or more for better specs like an i5 quad core) Only some of the i5s are quadcore.

Quad core will run most games quite smoothly (obviously not on the highest graphics settings) but remember it also has dedicated graphics.

The 5470 dedicated gfx are low end - so no one should get massive about them. However, any dedicated gfx is a step up from nasty intergrated types, so its still a plus point.

Only the macbook pro 15" and above have the Quad core
