Would recommend the hp pavillion range to anyone... comes with a cool remote too! This has a high def screen like mine, and believe me, its excellent!!! Though this one lack a Blu-Ray drive.... Voted hot! good find!

Deal looks average imo.

PCW Pricematch might be worth a look.

Wow, HDMI, 2GB RAM, 256MB graphics card, fully multimedia, that's a great deal for this level of specs! Voted extra hot... Even tempted (mine's 3 years old now).

As all the 8X00 notebook graphic chipset from nivida are deemed defective, it will be wise to avoid any laptop with nvida chipset at the moment. Check the link below:

Do you know if mine is affected? It has a NVIDIA GeForce 7150M graphic chipset (full specs here)

I've seen my screen do a few funny things (video card related problems) but nothing a reboot hasn't fixed. It's literally only happened once or twice though, usually after playing a load of games or spending too long on YouTube

Hot! Rep added

So just to confirm, the dell outlet offer, would it be best to avoid all nividia graphics cards and go for the ati ?

I have a DV2000 and that does this quite often now. Time to take it back to PC World for a warranty repair.

This seems good for the price but, like all other posts, must wonder if retailers are trying to get rid of laptops with this graphics card. :whistling:

Seeing as nVidia are denying theres a problem, and system retailers are giving "fixes" such as running the fans at 100% (more noise, less battery life), it's not a surprise

Not sure, the defective is most likely happen to newer G84/G86 and G92/G94 chipsets. Your chipset is not on the list. However, the symptom seems to be heat related one.

You could try the latest bios from HP. However some people say they tends to turn your fan on high and keeps it there all the time.

Also hp has a Warranty Service Enhancement programme which covers some older models.

Similar fix also from dell as well.

Hope it helps.

Average price for the spec

BUT

These HP laptops look and feel great, well designed and solid, and thats really important to me and to anyone who understands the impact that has on how much you enjoy using a machine.

So voted hot!

nVIDIA aren't denying there's a problem they've set aside about £200 million to cover the costs involved. There is speculation that the situation affects a lot more GPUs than they’ve owned up to though; time will tell.

The link to Tesco shows it to be WXGA which means 1280x800.

Thanks for the link and thankfully, I couldn't find my laptop in the affected laptops. Not sure if I want to update the BIOS to the latest if it's not affected, maybe I'll just update it to the version prior to the one which adjusts the cooling fan alogorhythm. I've noticed there are a number driver updates so think a format and windows re-install is in order.

Can anyone confirm if this has the faulty nvidia chipset? Lefty informs me it doesn't but others say it does.
#29
From what ive read its a lot more than the g84 and g86 chipsets that are bad others are also frying mobo,s left right and centre i sent my 9646 back as soon as i seen what was happening.A bios update has been released by hp and dell all that does is have the fan running 100% of the time it will still fail in the end but probably when your warranty has expired.Yes the g4000m gs in this lappy is one that is afected i would not take the risk personally it was in the 9646 i had back it went, for anyone wanting to check if there laptop is included in the hp extended limited warranty program here is the link i think that says it all.
