We all loved the N40L and N54L, now is the chance to get a pretty good deal (I think) on the next generation of HP Microserver.

The Gen8 1610T is £199.47, but HP have a £35 cashback offer bringing the price down to £164.47

I do not know what the setup options are like for this compared to the Gen7, but hopefully it has as much to offer if not more.

The CPU gets a nice passmark boost over the N54L.

Comes with 2GB of ram but no HDD.

Could this be the start of some nice deals on the Gen8.

Seems a good price for what you get to me. Been considering one as an upgrade to my N40L. Just not so sure on the design. From what I've seen it's not a massive upgrade

Advantages and disadvantages from my research into this one are
+ Faster CPU
+ easier access
+ USB 3.0
+ 2x Gigabit Lan
~ Same amount of RAM
~ USB port layout has changed
- Only one PCI-e slot now so even less space for a GPU with a silent heatsink or to expand funcationality (ie tv tuners).
- No Slimline CD drive installed
- No Hard disk supplied.
- Higher power use
- louder compared to old models

Got one of these in the Amazon deal a month or so ago to for £190. Useful upgrade from the N40L it replaced, especially with a Xeon E3-1265Lv2 (which cost the same as the server :o). Should do me for a few years.

Unlike the N36/40 you can do a cpu swap on the gen8, plenty of info around.
