Thanks to brogantee for pointing this out in another thread. This is £248.53 on amazon but as part of an HP offer, you can claim £100 cashback bringing the price to an amazing £148.53 for a great starter server. Here's the offer details and the second link is the cashback form:

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/proliantmicroserver/index.html?jumpid=ex_r135_uk/en/smb/tsg/go_proliantmicroserver

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/proliantmicroserver/pdf/PA0023-%C2%A350-off-Microserver-Offer-May-2011.pdf

The link is to the 160 GB server, unfortunately it looks like the offer is valid for the 250 GB server model only.

Wow.. will this get a valid proof of purchase?

Had to edit, it looks like only for the 250GB server do you get cashback: http://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-ProLiant-MicroServer-Gigabit-Ethernet/dp/B004FPOLCO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1306057054&sr=1-2

However, the cashback form does say "Purchase your ProLiant Microserver (part code
633724-421)" but both the following have the same part code per Amazon:

Yeah it's for the 250GB model only. That will be why this is cheaper as it works out more money. Really nice server mind. I have one and it is just fantastic.

You need to change the thread title price to £148 also.53 also .....£80.53 is wrong.

Need a NAS that will decode all media on the fly to my tv? anyone got any sugestions ?

This thing might be wasted on me, I would not know what to do with a server, but the specs seem amazing, also with a dual core, I can image this will be as noisy as my PC. which I want to avoid
#7
This is what it says about the noise on a review site:
Though it has distinct tonal aspects and is several decibels louder than the noisiest PC in the lab
#8
I have mine in the room I sleep in. Really is quiet. Also runs on a 120mm fan so if you want it virtually silent then just get a better fan.
If you are looking at decoding you are better to see what software would be best suited. As this can run any OS so therefore any software it is a very good buy. I have had Windows 7, Ubuntu, Fedora, FreeNAS, Windows Home Server and a few others running and it runs them all very nicely. Also you can upgrade the RAM upto 8GB of standard DDR3. Bargain when you get the 250GB one and £100 cashback.

I have 2 of these from the last cashback offer. Both upgraded to 8gb ram. One runs Ubuntu Server the other Windows Home Server 2011. They are not silent that's for sure. But I definitely have noisier computers in my lab. I'm very happy with them.
