can this be used as a desktop ?

Don't see why not

So all i would need to do is install a graphics card ( pci-e ) which i have and more memory and install XP and i would be set to go ?

Looks like a decent PC for the price but just want to make sure i can use as a normal pc and not just a server.

Very interested in getting this.
#6
can someone confirm this because i would like to order one before it expires please
#7
No, it IS a server.

Look at the other posts for this on HUKD, it has been posted many times before, you will find better explinations in those posts as to why this is NOT a desktop.
#8
from what i can see from this thread is that it will work as a home PC

Just checked out the post's most say you can run them as a desktop the only problem seems to be you need a USB sound card, from what I have read you can use a 16X PCI-E card so upgrading the video card's not a problem Ram is cheap as well 4gb is £40 so go for it seems a cheap desktop to me.

Thanks for that. Think i will go for it. I can always change out the mobo if things don't work out (i think)

I've ordered this Crucial 4 Gb. RAM kit from dabs for mine @ £31.37 + delivery :-

http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=55XP&CategorySelectedId=11150&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11150,4294952421,354710000,4294960364,405050000

I ordered mine along with a monitor so delivery was negligible. If you only want to order the memory it might be cheaper to get it from Crucial direct - http://www.crucial.com/uk

Also you don't necessarily have to use a USB sound card, a PCI or PCI-Express one will do.

Sorry for my mis-info, i assumed it was the 110 when I seen the ProLiant name

Just ordered but memory is out of stock at crucial :(

I've been successfully using a pair of Crucial 1 Gb. DDR2-800 Unbuffered Non-ECC DIMM's in mine, but 'twas not enough :)

IMO I would have paid the little extra and got the ECC more stable on servers but the stuf you have ordered should work fine.

Thats a shame but I would have still waited Crucial have a 10% discount on a 8GB purchase which would have made the RAM around £69.00 including quidco.

Hopefully in early January you'll see the stock of memory start to increase again - only delay really just now is the dreaded Christmas postal shipping just now! :p

Cheers, Scotty Boy!

Hello, i used a pci-e sound card and run window xp but failed.

Says no audio device but drivers are there and enabled "working properly".

I want to try a USB sound card but worried that it will still not work!
