Anybody tried one of these?
#4

I have just bought one. Here is the link to the HP website with which models are compatiable. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00783236&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=uk&lang=en&product=3200077

Anyone know of something similar for an Epson? Not looking to spend £20 mind...

Shame about the HUGE dongle...

Otherwise I might have used it with my lappy.

The ladies love a HUGH dongle :-D

I spent several hours trying to get one of these to work properly and in the end I used a long usb cable.

It wouldn't start properly on boot up and just wouldn't connect, once it had failed to work I could manually connect which it would do straight away. After just a few minutes It would then start to drop out and in general play around.

In my opinion avoid this very flakey product.

Though useful, this is not the same thing as a wireless print server. It will only allow one PC/laptop to print to the printer and does not make the printer into a truly wireless device that anyone can print to on the same network. Cheap but not what it seems at first glance and will only work with the supplied dongle, the dongle has to be put into the PC that wants to print

How does this work?
Does it allow the printer to be available over a wireless network ie. to all the users of that network?
Does it connect via ethernet to a router? Or is it simply a one computer connection - just a wireless usb lead in a way?
Does it allow wireless scanning on hp multifunction devices?

I would like something like this so that I can network my HP printer and my gf can print without having to switch my pc on first (it's usb wired to the printer). Thanks for all the help.

edit - I think wilson just answered my questions lol! thanks.

1) No it doesn't, you will need to share the printer from the pc the wireless device is installed on.

2) It is just like a wireless usb cable.

3) That I didn't try as I gave in trying to get it to work properly.

I wonder how cheap you could get a print server for these days that would let you use any printer and use it from any computer too. You might even be able to pick up a cheap router with a print server built in for less than the cost of this.

Seems a bit ill conceived to be honest, like a wireless router that you could only use one computer with at a time.
#17
so its now 26.99 you can only use from 1 computer and it has to be a hp device. Doesn't seem like such a good deal.

I agree, this is dead cold imho, a print server is the way to go and I paid less that this several years ago for my Netgear print server.

cold from me too

Cold as you should have put the TOTAL price in your title (i.e. including vat and p&p) and its not that cheap anyway imo. sorry

Looks like another dud Viking clearance offer. Since Viking Direct and Niceday brands were merged (I guess they've both been owned by Office Depot for quite a while) Viking's prices seem to have become steadily less competitive. I began using them years ago but these days I find I can source most office products cheaper elsewhere.
#22
surely if the printer you use is connected to a networked pc then you can print to this from any other networked pc so long as the printer pc is switched on
i do this from my laptop, no need to buy anything :)
#23
Can you recommend another supplier of office products if Viking are becoming more expensive

thanks

This makes your printer more like a shared local printer than a true wireless printer. However you CAN print to this from any PC on your wired/wireless network BUT as only 1 PC has connectivity to the printer, that PC has to be on. See HP manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00848362.pdf

Despite what folks say above, it is quite a keen price for the device. (If it isn't, where's it cheaper?)

@ J400UK - can't be cold just because I got the title wrong. You should be voting on the quality of the offer, not posters accuracy, grammar etc. But if you are saying it's not cheap either, would you care to qualify that with examples?

works great - got from viking direct for a touch over £20, next day delivery.

You CAN print from multiple computers but one, effectively the print server has to be on for this to happen - thats the one that has the dongle permanently, if you can live with that its a top wireless solution backwards compatible with older HP printers, mine was a £40 end of line HP laserjet 1018! Very happy
