Not sure cheaper looks good .the pro is £100 more but can't see why
HDMI connectivity, twice the memory and twice the RAM (which seems to be the biggest criticism of this unit).

Some tips for Slate 21 owners here.

I bought this the last time it was posted, probably a couple of months ago now.
It's great as a kitchen TV using online TV services. It's also a decent web browser and good with games. Angry pigs is great on the big screen.

Bought this last week for my bedroom to use as a tv now I can't get my 7 year old granddaughter away from it. Beautiful looking tablet and using hola it allows access to all British tv catchup abroad. Great for caravaning.

Also 2.2% Topcash, every little helps

Pro is better as has 3 x USB ports (so you can watch movies from a USB stick), Quad core processor, Android 4.3, HDMI input (so can be used as a monitor), 2GB RAM (compared with 1GB), 16GB on board storage ... but it's black - the original looks so much better, not like an old fashioned PC which the black one does :( I am however going to get the Slate 21 pro purely for the reasons above.

The price for the white one is OK it has been this price for yonks and maybe there is a reason for it.

The non-Pro vesrion also has 3 USB ports and a quad core processor. Not much difference between Android 4.2 and 4.3 either.
Agreed on the RAM and memory though.

Does it have a built in battery or is it mains only? Doesn't state on website.

mains only and it weighs 8.5 kilos.

This has been much cheaper as it included a keyboard/mouse at the same price. Looking at +£50 to buy the HP matching set. Wait for a proper offer as this is the list price for the basic unit.

A keyboard and mouse that will sit and gather dust?
#16
Agreed, the offer 2 weeks ago included free keyboard and mouse, so will pass on this

An extra £90 for HDMI, an extra gig of RAM and 16GB hard drive instead of 8.

Yep, this is a good deal.

I ordered this when it was on offer two weeks ago - it was not dispatched on the stated date, and I then received an email saying they were cancelling my order as they didn't know when they'd have stock again. It did say they'd notify me when it was back in stock but i've heard nothing yet.
#26
I have the pro version of this. It is so useful as an extra monitor. For that alone it is work paying the extra

the pro is tempting purely for the HDMI in socket. I like the idea of these but knowing how manufacturers like dropping support for android after a year or 2 in 3 or 4 years this will slowly stop supporting apps and get worse, at least the pro version can still be used as a monitor when that happens

Nope, it is so big and heavy, you'll be glad of a k/b and mouse

Thanks OP. Ordered for parents to skype conveniently with their grandson. Used a friend's student email and got it down to £195 + 4% quidco too making it less than £188 effectively!

Is this not the normalish price now?

That's certainly an alternative, and a little cheaper however:

1. Acer has much slower chipset (Antutu score of 5200 vs > 30000? (after very quick check on youtube - as my battery is at 10%))
2. Some people on this site might rate the look and reliability of HP over Acer, although the jury's out on that one in my mind

The Acer should be considered a smart monitor than a proper PC, tbh. Would be great for basic games and watching TVOD, but not sure what else.

21 inch seems to be small when compared to that.
