When all brands of netbook release one by one, I was very attracted and always wanted one. but look at the cpu, look at the stupid Atom N270+GMA950+160GB HD+1G RAM, all netbooks have nearly the same hardware. think about this, 10' is the max size and yet it's still small. Atom 1.6G,no slow but can't even open 1080HD video files. keyboard size too small to men...
I've found this great substitute, HP TX2510EA. yes it's recon, but it is low price as well. 12' screen, at least bigger than 10'. also easy to carry. the graphic card is ATI HD3200, which I think can easily run some large 3D games. 3GB ram,2.1GHZ processor, powerful to do anything. Plus this is a tablet, which means you can use stylus or finger to input through the touch screen, how cool is that!

This is really a better combination of performance and mobility.

GOT MY PACK! 2 BATTERIES!!

Another found! It's got Microsoft Office 2007 Student edition installed!

I have this laptop, but paid about £650 for it a few months ago. Very good little laptop.

I bought one of these for £650 the other month too from laptopsdirect. Good laptop! I'm selling it now though as i got a Dell M4400 :D

A 12' screen is REALLY impressive - that 144" or over 3.5metres. wow!

More seriously it's not better than a netbook it's just different. I decided on a laptop rather than a netbook beause I rarely need the battery to last more than 1.5 hours and i don't carry it around al day or use it on trains or planes. I couldn't care less about its gaing ability becaue I don't play games. But there are plenty of people that find a netbook with its smaller size and longer battery life more useful.

Looks like a decent deal on a laptop but there have been plenty of others posted here - cheaper if like me you don't play games or higher spec. if you do... horses for courses.

What's your point... you are comparing a 12" tablet with a 17" laptop...?

Ever heard of the phrase, different horses for different courses?

These are £699 brand new in John Lewis, so £399 refurb is a great price.

i'd love a tablet laptop, damm i wish i had some money

why can't they sell these for £50 :)

Mmmmmmmmmm toooooch screeeeen. Great price for a feature packed machine, hot from me.

I have this tablet and it tends to run REALLY hot. If you plan to use this on your lap, dont buy it.

2 batteries, really?

Bought the TX1340 last year for £630, so this is a very good price.
It performs well with XP installed but not so good with the problematic Vista OS, but that's no surprise . It's a well designed top quality notebook.

Yes - The TX2-1010 I borrowed did.

How good is this for games? I dont expect it to be "good" per se, but would like to be able to play a few games on it.

Also is the touchscreen thingy a gimmick (eg low sensitivity) or is it a worthwhile feature? I have started to get into drawing some more and figure that if the screen is good, it could mate very nicely with my Adobe CS3 pack.

Many thanks

Can't believe this deal! Tablet PC with that graphics card in it at netbook size - all my dreams come true at £400! wow - every excited can't wait for delivery will detail then :)
It's expensive other places - if I knew this was around for about £650 -700 (which it seems to be) i'd have considered it at those prices!

It's not NetBook size as it's 12" and 2Kg and the extra size isn't the issue so much for me but the weight. Having owned a Samsung NC10 since December I'm blown away by how the low weight (1.25Kg) makes it so useable. I don't want to buy a NetBook or laptop over 1.5Kg in the future even it means paying a decent premium.

Hot price for this though.

2kg isnt that bad a weight i find my 14.1" 2.2kg quite portable, i suppose as with anything if you get used to something after a while then whatever is decent for you wins.

iv read some review somewhere that the tablet stylus and pressure screen on this computer is a bit hit and miss, and the screen has lots of little holes which sometimes attracts dust etc once the dust gets in these holes, then you have had it and also that the computer has a lot of flex in it, and the hinge has known to fail after a while.

on the plus side its so cheap, a branded 12" laptop for under £400 is simply amazing.

personally i wont be buying one, im stopping my impulse buying (or at least trying to). at the mo i have a dell with a pentium 4 and 512mb ram. it surfs the web just fine, has a good batt life, and i can even do all my office 2007 applications on it, and it has bluetooth!

after all the next laptop i buy be it for £200, £500 or £1000, il still be using it for the same things, surf web/download music/check emails, write MS Word reports hence 'if it aint broke why fix it'

for once in my life iv decided to SAVE! and only when it breaksdown or gets beyond economical repair shall i buy a new one.

i for one thank the credit crunch, its help me refocus my spending habits!

I borrowed the newest one (the TX2-1010ea) and it was fine playing Portal / HL2 on pretty high settings.

I found the screen pretty good - the only issue is it looks a bit wierd due to the digitizer (you get used to it) and that due to the shape and size it can be a little awkward to draw on.

For £400 this is a crazy deal, though - I was gonna buy one for Uni, and was tempted to buy one now - but I'd rather keep stalking eBay and find a very very nice one and then upgrade it to the spec it SHOULD of been (i.e. more RAM, better HDD - if only they made one with a Core 2 CPU...)

Anyone comment on the touch screen - using fingers?

Am looking to mount this in a vehicle for maps so need to have good finger touch response, etc.

And am I reading right - no bluetooth???

No any CD.but all you need is to find 2 blank DVD and you can use HP recovery program to burn the recovery DVD from the laptop directly.no pics but it's pretty much as a brand new one.

yes you can use finger to touch the screen. I don't know the material of the screen but it's not easy to get dirty. response is good. Yes you're right, no BT.but this can be easily solved by a BT dongle.

another thing is that the fan, quite big noise than the laptop I'm using now (Lenovo 3000 N200).
the system performance is 3.2. I guess this score is enough to run winner 11 2009, my favourite.
#27
Just finish test of PES2009. it's awesome! highest quality with maximum resolution setting and still fluent!
wasn't expect this great performance of the graphics card. it's a great surprise...

now recommand it even more.

but anyone who care about heat, think before buy. it's really quite hot when playing large 3D games.

Noooo!
Just checked on the website and called telesales and they have rune out!
Does anyone know of anywhere else selling these at this (or a similar) price?
