I'm a little bit thick when it comes to these things but from what I can see, I connect my printer to this, this into my router, install the software on each computer and away you go.
I am having great problems with my current network, my desktop and laptop are running Windows 7 and will connect to the printer, however my wife and daughters laptops running Vista won't connect through the network to the printer which is connected to the desktop. By installing my printer directly to the router (Orange Livebox) through this should get round that problem, am i right?
#5
can this be used to make a wired printer a wireless one?

The printer needs to be next to the router and wired up. i.e. no, not wireless.
You can use it from your wireless PC/Laptop though.

Does anyone know if this will work with hp officejet j5780?

Yeah, thats about the size of it and you wont need to keep a pc on to access the printer any more.

Yes, you need to check your printer as some already have an eathernet ports for connecting to your routed.

Bargain. Voted hot.

I have a canon IP4500. How do I tell if this is compatible?
#16
awesome deal. good find.
#17
Good deal wont fit my 8150 but still good for others.
#18
It mentions that it fits most other non HP printers, so why wouldn't it fit all HP models. I'd say just because it's not on the above list , doesn't mean it wont work. I'd think it should.
#19
Better get it now! The way the pounds behaving lately this could be triple the price come tommorrow =/
#20
If you go to the support page on the HP website then it actually states only compatible with HP products and goes on to list the printers already mentioned in the first post.

Thus, if I was you I wouldn't chance it working on anything other then the printers mentioned.

Windows XP, Vista and OS X (Leopard) drivers are available; last updated 2008. In theory, the Vista drivers should also work on Windows 7 but no guarantees.
#21
I think the orange livebox can act as a print server in it's own right. Either that, or an upcoming firmware update is going to add that functionality, I can't remember.
#22
got this as i thought it would allow any of my wireless computers to print.

but i noticed someone mentioned this needs to be plugged into a computer?
doesnt that defeat the object?

basically i have no computers near the printer and to print i need to go a plug the laptops in.
how can i make it so all my comps can connect to the printer wirelessly?

thanks
#23
This needs to be plugged into a router, not a computer. If you've got a combined wireless access point and router then you can do what you want to do without using a computer.

I'm not sure if this gadget suffers the same drawback as the USB print server on my cheapo NAS, i.e. you can print to the printer but it can't report it's status back to the PC you're printing from.
#24
From the description this appears to report it's status back to the computer so you should get 'out of ink' etc warning messages.

However, it's only quoted as working at all for a select range of HP printers, so beware.

I'm not an expert that looks like it would do the trick providing you can interface this with your existing network or just use this if it has enough capacity.

Thanks - ordered.

No you don't plug into a computer you just plug a network cable (from your router or wired network) then the USB cable of the printer into the other side.

Once you have done this any printer on the network can print which is what you wanted as all your computers are on the network wireless.
#30
Got mine today - works fine. I tried it with a Brother Laser Fax/Printer and an HP K7100 Colour inkjet printer and they both worked fine. After installing the provided software you get an icon on the taskbar to connect and disconnect from the network printer. Bear in mind that if someone else has connected they need to disconnect before another computer can connect.

Great buy, works with canon IP2000. The only problem is that you have to take control from other users when printing, which is not obvious for some people.

Adapters cost about £1ish in most poundshops:whistling:

or cut it, strip it carefully and put a 3 pin on instead...dead easy and cheaper (assuming you have the inexpensive tools)
#33
Go on then, you do one then show us a step by step photo guide, this I would love to see, its not a "USplug" Its a "US Power Supply", so as I said before its an adapter you need for this.
