Makita 18v Li-Ion Combi Drill £78.00 (+£6.60 delivery - Or Collect In Store) @ HSSToolShop

This is for a pretty decent drill (ordered last night so can't comment on just how good it is) but for a Makita 18v Li-Ion Drill I'm not sure you'll find much better.

NiCD but i'd argue they're better suited to DIY use anyway
Absolutely. Apart from being bigger, heavier, self-discharging all their power within a matter of days rather than months, suffering from 'memory effect' and the risk of deterioration damage if you don't regularly use them, and being much more environmentally damaging, they're a much better option.

;)

I'll agree on size and weight but it's hardly noticeable over a day, the battery issue is massively over rated. After 7 years of abuse my NiCd's are still going strong, they hold a charge for weeks at a time if left and this month alone i've driven over 3,000 screws, drilled at least 1,000 pilot holes into masonry/breeze block/CLS stud work and used them to torque up hundreds of racking bolts spread across an 839 and an LXT (both with two batteries). The LXT battery is an improvement, but it's not as resilient, the overheating/charging issues are widely discussed and the failure rate on the body and the battery appears higher from conversations i've had with others who use them daily. The 839x series is a well proven body, i'd have no hesitation in buying another - I only ended up with an LXT as it was on offer for the same money but either is a solid investment.

Has anyone bought this?
Does it include the hard case or the soft one?
