In the o2 store all phones are now payg and if the Galaxy S is not your thing the desire might be. In o2 stores its the same price as the galaxy s at £319 + the mandatory £10 top up but not a bad price

follow the link but didn't find Desire of Galaxy S

Galaxy S is better.
5weeks+ of owning Desire and having played with Galaxy S....
Also £285 offer is only for people who have been on O2 PAYM for 6months, now...

and is it unlocked?

Yeah the £285 deal was for pay monthly early upgrades where as this is outright pay as you go price. Also No i dont think this is unlocked as only o2 contract handsets seem come unlocked although i would love to be wrong.

And apologies it is in-store only although i believe tele sales also do this

I got the desire at the £285 price with O2, however I'm returning it as sadly I prefer my iPhone (I don't like the way Apple are going so wanted to get rid).

I asked out of interest how much the Galaxy S was when I phoned to return the Desire and was told £360, £75 more than the Desire.

Galaxy has better specs...but is very very cheaply built with flimsy plastics and no camera flash! I was going to buy one myself but the seems very cheap....I think I'll wait for Desire HD!

does the desire come with any memory card ?

You keep saying its flimsy but with the battery in place the phone has a nice enough weight and feels solid. No worse than the iphone 3G plastic back which is known to crack over time (like mine is now) Its really a nice phone - I would have kept mine but had issue connecting to a XP PC but that may have just been my PC or a faulty handset?

I'm interested in getting one of these phones, but I am very confused I have read they are a bit laggy sometimes.
what's the battery life like? Does it come with the newest software.

Anybody got anything to add

Thanks

@zippypants it comes with android 2.1 update and HTC say this will get the 2.2 update it certainly meets requirements to run it so no worries there. How long it takes to get the update in the uk is another matter and one that i think holds android back as the update process goes

Android (google) makes new version
it goes to handset manufacturers to customise Eg moto blur, htc sence, smasungs touch wiz
then carriers eg Tmobile etc get their 2p in if they want customization
then it gets rolled out to you if all of the above are happy with the build.

battery life spans from what iv read, so correct if wrong, is anything from heavy usage ( basicly alot of 3g/edge/gprs internet usuage) 6hours to moderate useage a day and a half. You will need to charge this every day however i dont see this as a problem so long as it lasts the whole day. most people i think shove their phone on charge at night.

best advice i can give is get to a large o2 store they usually have working demos and try out the phones only then will you know how they feel

i have played with both and although the galaxy is good, the HTC won hands down, the sense ui is very good, but the build quality in my view is sooo much better, it just feels much better

just be aware that these are now locked from O2
to unlock them, the company you buy the unlock code from will charge more then they advertise, as they need to use a new HTC database
just FYI
