This will be asked at some point so I'll ask it now - how much browsing does 500mb data come across as? I currently have a O2 PAYG sim with unlimited internet and texts which I was just gonna whack into an unlocked desire. But this deal is tempting. I'm a big time social networker and I love browsing the net during the day so yeah, any info appreciated!

500mb is fine for browsing, not fine if you stream video, or even music or use skype, in my opinion. A long weekend in Scotland using navigation and checking info online quickly racked up like 200mb.

Only get a Desire from Orange if you plan on rooting it and flashing a different ROM (easy to do, I can give you the links you need) - Orange load up their phones with some absolute tripe, which you can neither uninstall nor replace with stock software!

In all seriousness, the new iPhone is a sexy piece of industrial design, but that is neither here nor there :whistling: (Just to make it clear: I have a Desire and like Android, don't lynch me)

Having owned an iPhone and now a Desire I do think that the iPhone OS is better on the whole as a user, due to the iTunes integration - Podcast Downloading was easier from iTunes, no messing with memory cards and appstore having more apps....BUT saying that Android allows for more customisation, there are some real gems on the marketplace such as emulators and the main thing for me, price.

The iPhone, even the new 4th Gen is not worth over double (£300-500) what the Desire, or any other HTC Android phone can offer. I'd rather have the £300-500 in my pocket to use on a nice weekend break rather than spend close to £800-1000 on a small pocket device over the course of 24 months.

features - ease of use
iphone 10
Desire 9

iphone 9
desire 6
not keen on the media player, have to download a good one from marketplace, weher as iphone is built in and good!

Desire 10
desire is value for money, with the iphone you pay the premium due to the name

The iPhone 4 was a catch up phone, all the current top tier phones are pretty much tied with the iPhone 4 each with their own downsides and upsides.

On the other hand if you can wait a few months there will be new Windows Phone 7 and Android phones coming out with hardware and software specifications once again outclassing the iPhone.

I disagree about the price.. They're pretty evenly matched ATM... Desire is £420 unlocked - The 16GB 3GS is £440... IF you can afford to pay £420.. you can afford to pay £440. Invalid point mate, considering you would need to purchase an SD card if you wanted the same space too.

Heat added, high value phone on a 18 month contract at a reasonable rate - especially good to those who are up for an upgrade, bring up this deal (which is eligible for new customers) and see if your mobile network provider can match (or better yet one-up) on it.

The developers of "DoubleTwist" recently integrated the Android and released an Android App for free recently, promoting simple importing of music, podcasts and etc.

Have you tried it?
If so, could you comment to how it compares to the iPhone?

I only ask because I've been interested in both the iPhone and HTC Desire for my next phone and, seeing as you own(ed) both devices you are logically one of the best people to ask.

Which phone takes away from my terrible dress sense, face only a mother could love, body not even a mother could love, awkwardness in social situations, limited personality, bad breath, inadequacy in the trouser department and makes me irresistible to really fit women ?
#25
id rather buy an iphone, sorry im an apple fan.
#26
yep apple for me and no problem with wifi if you remember your upper and lower case letters
#27
ok several questions:
- is dialaphone reliable?
- for further communications do I have to deal with them or directly with orange?
- as I will have to move abroad soon or later can I terminate the contract early by paying the unused months?
- is 500MB enough for a month? (streaming music for example)
Thanks!

I love the way people are validating their very existence through their choice of toy phone (purchased from one of several large corporations that are all equally indifferent to their existence).

It's like being back in the playground, only now it's full of paunchy middle-aged nerds.

apparently steve jobs got hit on in a cafe because of his ipad (that was his opening at the conference yesterday), maybe that's your answer

To be honest i have been using my iphone 3GS for about a year and i really like it.. But spending 800 -900 for this phone on 18-24 month contract is a waste of money . £25 to £30per month would be reasonable price for iphone..
P.S i got my iphone for free :)

Im not an apple fan nor i hate them but i think apple products are overpriced with lesser
features and restrictions.

... and for those with more than one brain cell that watched would have concluded, just as (most) others did, that it was in fact the audience leeching the wi-fi network, and nothing to do with the performance of the iPhone.

Oh no, how cringe :w00t:

Why is it all these deals are on low number of minutes? I use mine for work, so need 5-600 minutes, no-one seems to re-sell these any cheaper than the networks.
#35
I have my son's old iPhone. He has an HTC Desire.

The ONLY things I prefer with the iPhone is the on screen keyboard (it's just better, don't know why) and the quality of games available.

Other than that, the HTC wins hands down.
#36
Can't understand all they hype about Apple in general, the Iphone is a great phone but massively overpriced due to the name only. As for the Ipad, that's a complete waste of time, just seems people get over excited and will pay over inflated prices for Apple products at the moment - no doubt their marketing department is paid well.

As for this deal it's hot for me, the desire is a great phone and has been voted best phone out there. Not sure how it compares with the new iphone but no doubt it is still far better value for money.

Total rubbish!! Find an iphone with these minutes and texts that also includes the phone for this price or any other desire deal for that matter, you cant. It just goes to show that the best iphone deals are to buy it PAYG and then get an o2 simplicity sim to put in it. This and all the other Desire deals are for 24 month contracts that cost in total, including phone and minutes, texts and internet over 24 months £400 or thereabouts, which saves you hundreds of pounds over an iphone.

I am using DoubleTwist and it bridges the gap nicely. I used to download podcasts via itunes on the iphone, listen to them and delete without once syncing the iphone to my imac, What I do now is download them through itunes on the mac and then connect the Desire to the mac and let DoubleTwist do its thing.

I've had a desire for a month and it's a beautiful phone that can do so much. Seems to work reliably and I prefer it to my wife's iphone. A lot cheaper and I was able to haggle. Brillinat camera with flash and big rich, touch screen. I haven't one complaint. Google listen works brill with podcasts.

Having bought a HTC desire 2 weeks ago I was a little worried that the new iphone would have so many new and innovative features but the announcement is more of a makeover than a new phone . No doubt it will cost a fortune . I got a brand new HTC desire for £285 then got on the O2 simplicity deal for £15 a month .
