This looks to be the best phone to be released so far in 2010. I know the 24month contract may put off some but at least you don't have to pay up front (except £3.95 Estimated Shipping). I think it's on the best network too.

24M Contract on Vodafone
300mins
Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Mobile Internet
=£25

Stock Arriving 12th April

The Desire boasts specs similar to the HTC-made Google Nexus One, with a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen, the Android 2.1 OS, a new incarnation of the Sense UI, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and a 5-megapixel camera with a flash.

you can get the HD2 for £30 a month on virgin with a way better package 800min 3000 texts and unlimited net this is a cutdown version of the HD2 so this is bad value.

It runs a different operating system, it's not a 'cut down' version - it's a completely different phone. Granted for the average user the HD2 may be more impressive, but a lot of people are waiting for this phone in particular. Also, £25 is less then £30.

absolute rubbish 2 totally different phones

hows that rubbish?? 1ghz snapdragon cpu senseUI same ram and rom its you that are talking rubbish.

Granted android is the difference but the HD2 may be getting the android variant so no doubt if you want shut of WM6.5 then it will be possible.
#6
@polly69 lol umm no the HD 2 has a wm6.5 OS by far the worse OS at the mo (that will not be upgraded to win 7) and the hardware of this phone is the same as the google super phone the nexxis one and has a far superior android OS

you will find a pattern will run in this thread re your comments i wont say i told you so

????????????????????????????????? you come in and say things to incite flaming then you make a post that makes no sense at all. I can tell you for a fact that this phone is based off the HD2 as I've been reading about it for weeks as i bought the HD2 and wished id waited as this is pretty much the same apart from the OS and the screen size, The tech inside is suppose to be identical.

It really **** me off when people come on threads and say something they clearly know nothing about and if that starts a pattern then the reason for that will be because I'm right either way you look at it its not very good value the package of inclusive minutes is poor and for the sake of a £5what would you buy.
#8
granted Windows Mobile 6.5 is rubbish but we can live in hope the 7 will be better and that HTC will release it with android which means we can change the OS all together
#9
So this package costs £600 then: cold.

Great phone btw, just prefer to buy a different way.

Polly69 shouldn't be allowed to post on here because they haven't the slightest clue of what they're talking about!!!

Just bought a very nice HTC touch 2 for my partner, £15 a month, free phone over 24 months

Has internet for free and choice of flexible booster (we had unlimited calls to uk landline numbers)

Phone runs windows mobile 6.5, has inbuilt GPS and FM radio. comes with microsoft Pocket office ir excel, word, power point etc.

Now that seems a better deal to me?

The HD2 is a good phone so enjoy your purchase. There's better phone's coming out every few months so phones are never the latest tech for long. However, right now, or at least in a month when it becomes available, the Desire is the phone to have. :) I returned my Hero last week to wait for a it. This is a probably the best deal I've seen for the Desire so you can't really knock it. :)

That's the WHOLE POINT, you've got a buggy phone with wm6.5, and "live in hope" for wm7.0, whereas the Desire has the full package out of the box!!!
#17
HD2 can't do pinch-to-zoom, Desire can,
HD2 poorer battery 1230 mAh compared to the Desire 1400 mAh
HD2 RAM: 448 MB Desire RAM: 576 MB
Desire also has an optical trackpad at the bottom

Don't get me wrong the HD2 is a great phone but the Desire has built on it 6 months on.
#18
It's £30 per month unless I'm missing something? The mobile internet is charged at £5 per month.

Your Plan £25
24 month contract
300 Minutes
per month
Unlimited Text + Unlimited mobile internet
per month
£30.00 Line rental
per month

It's still a decent deal though.

I stand corrected....deal updated.

can't find much detail but has this got the capacitive touch screen like the hd2?

I'm really struggling to see what you feel is cutdown about this phone when compared to the HD2.

Many of the specs are the same. The areas where this differs are technically an improvement over the HD2.

It packs the same components into a smaller package. Which is universally considered an improvement in the mobile electronics world. And almost always carries a cost premium.

The HD2 may have a larger display, but this has the latest display technology. Moreover the screen has a higher pixel density. Which technically points to the HD2 being inferior in this respect.

This has a higher capacity battery despite being a significantly smaller phone.

Objectively, I can't think of a single feature which would lead anyone to believe this phone is cut down and therefore of lesser value then the HD2. Personal preference is ofcourse a different matter, but that was not the context in which your statement was made.

I haven't commented on the OS difference. As if you prefer one OS over another, that should make your decision for you.

Yes.

I don't know of any Android phone which doesn't have a capacitive touch screen.

I believe the HD2 is the first WM phone with a capacitive touch screen. Up until now WM phones have been "lumbered" with resistive screens due to the requirement that they be useable with a Stylus. IMO they have finally seen the light :)

I would advise you to do some research and pick your OS first. As IMO, how well you get on with the OS will make far more difference to your user experience then the 1ghz processor or other HW improvements.
#23
Because they forgot to point out the internet was £5 per month on top of the £25 I'm guessing?

24 months is a very long time for a contract in my opinion and I have no doubt there'll be much better deals than this for the phone soon.
#24
and its not just £25 a month its £25 + VAT on top of your calls!
