The price is creeping down for this handset. Cheapest I can find it at the moment (now contemplating purchasing it therefore if anyone can find a Brand New Unlocked Desire HD from a reputable dealer for less I would appreciate it if they can highlight it).

I originally thought the prices would drop significantly in the next few months due to the glut of HTC handsets arriving in April, however, the prices of the new handsets seem a bit on the high side therefore it might actually make the current Desire HD and standard Desire even more attractive.

The prices of the new HTC handsets due out are as follows:

Desire S - £400.00-£420.00 (available to Pre-Order at King Of Gadgets and Amazon respectively) - Doesn't seem a big step up from current model.

Wildfire S - £270 (available to Pre-Order at UnlockedMobiles.com)

Incredible S - Can't find a release price as yet but led to believe it will be a CarPhoneWarehouse exclusive therefore not much chance of a bargain.

Salsa - £335 (available for pre-order at UnlockedMobiles.com)

Looking at the specs of each model it would appear if the standard Desire can be bought for Circa £250 and the Desire HD for about £350 in the next few months it might be better value.

This phone has the worst battery life ever (lasts half a day from a full charge when you do 30 mins of browsing). And the browser through normal network not wifi is incredibly slow (my old se k800i beats it with ease). Don't waste your money and time...

Disagree with the comments made by casperecium:

Battery lasts me at least two days with moderate use - some web browsing, texting, phoning and game playing. You just need to play about with some of the sync-settings and use a battery watching app.
Internet works fine - lots of browser choice too. Opera Mini is supposed to be the quickets, but I like Dolphin.
Easily the best phone I've ever owned.

maybe true for the desire s, salsa and wildfire but not too sure about the incredible s. not really read into it but think the desire hd and incredible s are similar specs, if I recall correctly the incredible was released in america but not here.

Not in the same league as the DesireHD so not really a decent comparison and the DesireHD is there flagship phone and will definitely be getting android3.

I wasn't trying to say the new phones were the same as the Desire HD, in fact I was saying the opposite - in my OP I highlighted that with the new phones and their spec, it probably makes the Desire HD even better value for money hence the reason for posting what I think is the cheapest deal for a Sim-Free Desire HD.

Don't know why the deal is so cold as i'm sure a deal for the Desire HD was posted last week priced about £25-£30 dearer but still reached in excess of 500 degrees - still waiting for someone to highlight a cheaper price despite all the cold votes.

I also get 2 days out of my HD. Its just a case of tweaking the settings. Drop the screen brightness down and you will instantly see an improvement.

Totally disagree. My experience is the opposite of yours.

Anyone managed to find it cheaper yet - wondering why so cold. Might hold off purchasing.

Yes but who are they. A simple google search shows likely to be Asian imports and you end up getting charged VAT/Taxes on top (if you ever see the item in the first place). A bit of research suggests they have offices in Netherlands but they do not accept mail (according to 'whois' register.

All looks a bit dodgy.

Desire Z also available at Handtec, unlocked and sim-free at £349.19 (just in case you prefer the slide out keyboard phones) - you also get a free Bluetooth Headset with the phone.

Wouldn't be fair as more people likely to see the newer thread and hopefully benefit from it - just slightly frustrating that when I posted a few days ago and struggles to get above freezing and then reposted and gets super hot. Plus took the effort to detail all new handsets due out and how they compare in spec and price to the Desire HD

However, the site is not about 'personal glory' so will just need to suck it up and get a life.

The Pyramid is going to be the flagship for HTC designed to do battle with the iPhone 5. I think the Wildfire S has an improved LCD over the previous one. Battery life is better than Desire which tbh isn't the best, you really need a power monkey in addition. Forgot to say though, this is still a good deal for sim free! On contract you will be paying for this handset what £30 to £35 per month for two years just like an iPhone so its gonna cost you £650 maybe higher. I added a little heat.
