Nice, works out cheaper than getting a Nexus One imported.
Probably won't preorder, but this is definitely going to be the next phone that I get. Only one month to go!
#2
Yeah, will see how much Play or Amazon offer this for.

Yup, I'm waiting for a general release too, looks like a good sign of what's to come though.

The price has dropped from £450 to about £374!
I'm excited over what the release price will be, hopefully lower :w00t:

Yeah, when announced at the MWC this was supposed to be about £450, the Legend at £400.
This works out cheaper than both, plus the Legend is hardly worth getting if you have a Hero (which I do) because it's very similar hardware, with a nicer cover and optical mouse.

sorry to ask a stupid question, but i was tempted to buy an iphone (loving the apps). Is it worth me looking in to something like this instead? what is the future of an android phone in comparison to the iPhone? I know this isnt strictly related to the original post but hope no one minds me asking!!

Waiting for it to arrive on T-mobile since hoping they keep the tariffs with free booster and free internet on Android phones.

The Hero (T-mobile G2 Touch) is currently just £91 and £15/mth (24 mth contract) for 300mins/300txt or £126 & £10/mth for 100mins/100txt. Added to which you get free unlimited (3GB) Internet and one free booster (so unlimited txts, mobile or landline calls). Looks a real bargain, especially if the Desire is priced similarly.

(According to some users you can get up to £40 off the initial phone cost too if you call up and speak to them; there's also ~£35 cashback from TCB and Quidco).

I think the HTC Sense UI compares well with the iPhone UI, and tbh I actually prefer it.
I've had an iPhone and a HTC Hero and prefer the Hero.

The only thing Android lacks in is the number of applications, and more specifically games. If that's what you're after go for the iPhone. Otherwise you'll start to see more games starting to appear throughout the year.

Android has more features, more open and more customisable and overall a better experience, for me anyway. I hope this doesn't turn into a flame thread with all Mandroids and iFanbois trashing it. It's each to their own, there is no winner. Ever.

I received a Hero from T Mobile on Saturday, very pleased with phone. I'm starting to think I should have waited another month!
Hero cost me £41 up front them £15 per month for 24 months. 300mins. 300texts U/L internet plus U/L free landline or U/L free texts. Will the Desire come in at the same price?
#12

U/L Texts
Blackberry Bold 9700
Unlimated Data
for 25 pm +50 for the phone

Well you got it £50 cheaper than advertised so well done. It should also (in a couple of months) be upgradable to Android 2.1 thus you're not missing a huge amount.

The Desire will likely be slightly more than the Hero (up to ~£50), the Legend is the direct Hero replacement (aluminium rather than plastic).
Hero/Legend is 3.2" screen, 600MHz CPU; Desire 3.7" screen, 1GHz CPU. They're the main differences. Of course, whenever you buy there's always gonna be something better in 6 months!

I've ordered cases, a battery, screen protectors and chargers from them. Well-priced, genuine goods to my eyes and usually arrive quickly. The only caution I'd offer is that sometimes cases are offered when searching for a given phone model that don't actually fit. With no dimensions given, it's hard to know what'll fit and what won't.

This is my next phone... Contract runs out in a month hopefully o2 wiil stock this otherwise bye bye o2.

From what i've read it looks like its out on Orange in April. Hopefully the first week or April as I think im going to go for this over the 9700 and Satio
#20
So £399 is the RRP according to that site. Very nice.
#21
Im interested in this or the legend - the screen looks a lot higher res and brighter than the iPhone :)
#22
Brighter because its AMOLED. Higher res because it is higher res :p.

i've personally been waiting for the sony ericsson xperia x10 which has similar specs but a larger display and a different ui. on the downside it'll be shipped with android 1.6 and costs 499 to pre order on play. now i'm really confused about which one to get :-S any help please ?

apple is the innovator and the rest are immitators.

Nothing rivals the iPhone and it is currently sueing HTC for patent breaches. I hope they win. Go Apple Go!!!
#27
The issue I've got with the X10 is that SE has no history of producing Android phones (and so we don't know how buggy their skin will be), but they do have a recent history of poor build quality. HTC have a good history of Android phones and no build issues.

They won't win, have you seen how pathetic the patent filings are!? It's US only anyway, luckily we don't have that shambolic patent system in the UK. I hope HTC wins (with a little help from Google) and it spurs them on the sh1t on Apple even more with the Android OS. Apple is obviously running scared, perhaps the 4G is not going to be so revolutionary! If you can't beat em, sue em!

HTC have probably been the best phone company over the last year - the Hero and the HD2 have had tremendous build quality and the Sense UI is the best UI out there.

I was in a similar position last year trying to decide between the Blackberry 9000 and the HTC Hero and I decided to go with the Blackberry.

Whilst I love my blackberry, I do regret not getting the Hero. Blackberry's are second to none if all you want to do is communicate but if you want to browse the t'interweb, BB are OK but you really miss the touch screen and the bigger screen size. The other thing that BB lacks are decent apps and those that are out there are very expensive.

This time round, my decision will be between the Nexus one and this. I was originally more drawn to the vanilla android OS on the N1 and the dual microphones (as I'm quite often in noisey environments) but at this price, I'm tempted to go with this instead!

Blimey Mr Jobs!

Personally I think that the iphone UI is looking a little dated. I bet loads of people are waiting for the next iphone though, i'm sure that'll be really innovative like the 3GS was, they may even add a flash for the Camera

great deal, i have the hero and love it, i got it sim free. My only grumbles are it doesn't have any flash on camera and 02 don't support MMS so i have never been able to send one! as i have o2 simplicity sim.

Would order this but reckon i will wait to see how things pan out after release as may be better deals around on contracts to go for.

Yeah coz Apple dont steal any ideas. All these corporations steal ideas from ideas eachother, the patents Apple has are incredibly flimsy.

They certainly wont be bringing any lawsuits against their low res screen thats for sure

Yeah, because Apple aren't being sued by anyone for patent infringements are they? Oh no, wait. .they are, lots. Next you'll be saying the iPad is like nothing before it. iFail. :whistling:

In that case go HTC go!

I sound like inspector gadget lol

I hope the Nexus one has more tricks up it's sleeve than Inspector Gadget himself.
