Brand new HTC Desire smartphone from Phones4U is £379.99 sim free.

This is the best price i have seen for an unlocked handset and its from a highstreet store so you can walk in and pick it up rather than waiting for delivery.

p.s. Phones4U aren't getting stock until Wednesday 7th but this price is on display in store.

Don't know why anybody would pay £380 for a mobile phone

6 Months later you pick up the same phone for about £100+

I just don't get it maybe I'm getting old:-D

I don't think you will ever be able to buy this phone new for £100 even when it goes end of life.

This is great if you can upgrade or are out of contract, but i still have 10months to run on my sim only contract so i cant go for offers like that.

Great deal, if they have them in tomorrow. I'll take it with a pinch of salt for now though...
I had pre-ordered from Handtec who said the phone was due in tomorrow. Just checked the website and it's changed to 13th. Grrrr....

Edit: Just had an email from them, quote:
"We have been informed at 5:30 on the 6th April that the HTC Desire Sim free release date has now been delayed, this applies to all UK Sim Free retailers and will unfortunately mean the item is not going to be shipped until around the 13th April".

Just checked with a couple of local Phones 4 Us, not got any and don't know when they will have.

Both Customer services and in store declined that they are selling this sim free. In store said that if they have a lot of stock, they will sell it sim free but from what he has seen, they were all branded to orange.

Argh :( I wish someone would come up with a definite HTC Desire deal, the MobilePhonesDirect are also refusing to confirm and not enough people have received it for me to be comfortable about buying it.

Ditto - i spoke to a store yesterday and the only ones they were having in were Orange branded handsets. As for the MobilePhoneDirect deal you were referring to - might be worth taking a punt on as although not many have reported back on the thread you talked about, the ones that have are positive, and nobody has posted that they have a locked phone. I have taken the gamble anyway, and tbh it isnt really that much of a gamble as if it is locked i'll just return it for a refund.

i finally went for the handtec deal. Wont get a charger or microsd card but i've already got an 8gb card and can pick up a charger for pennies.

Now i've got to start learning java so i can write my own apps. Hotukdeals app here we come.

Voted cold for me.

I spent saturday afternoon looking for the best deal on a Desire. I decided that I would buy it Sim Free from P4U as that was the advertised price. When I tried to buy the phone from the Manchester Market Street Store I was told that the phone was over £500 which was rubbish as they had it on display for £380.

I then tried the P4U in the Manchester Arndale and they were very very rude and told me they weren't ever going to sell the phone sim free. I confronted them about this that they shouldn't be advertising something they are not going to be selling and 3 of their rude sales assistants confronted me and said they can do what they want. After arguing that they really couldn't 'do what they want' they changed their tactics and I was told 'Put it this way mate, we might be selling them for that price but we haven't got any in stock'.

I finally tried ringing round a couple of other P4U stores (Bolton and Trafford Centre) and was told that they aren't going to be selling the phone sim free at all.

My advice don't deal with P4U, they are liars, treat customers like dirt and advertise things they don't have.

I've ordered one of them PAYG ones for £350 so I will post back whether it is Sim Free or not!

good price but still i dont understand why people would do this when you can get a an 18 month contract for £450 with minutes and texts and net thrown in and if your lucky insurance as well with an option to upgrade later at the end of the contract.

What if people already have a contract and want a new phone? Or those hapy on PAYG?

Tend to agree about Phones4U; in my experience they will tell you practically anything to try to secure a sale. Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.

Got mine at the weekend from MobilePhonesDirect. Said it was on T-Mob payg but turned up unlocked and unbranded.

The Deal picture isn;t actually the HTC Desire , rather its a Windows Mobile phone that comes up when you search 'htc desire' on google.

Although this is advertised as being avalable sim-free in store @ £379, i have just had confimation from a friend of mine who works in retail operations at their head office that the only version of this phone available in any Phones4u store at present is the Orange branded version. There is no set date as to when stores will be receiving the sim-free variety, if at all.

I've just had exactly the same experience with Phones4U in Leeds! Very rude and pretty much saying if we had one, we wouldn't sell it to you SIM free anyway. They really shouldn't advertise something they're not going to honour.
