Took a punt with this phone because it's purchased as T-Mobile PAYG.

Received yesterday and can report that mine was unbranded (no network branding on case or screen) and unlocked, with the PAYG pack bundled alongside in the parcel. Put my Orange sim card in and works like a dream!

Love this phone already. Fantastic screen and very fast and fluid operating.

Seems like a bargain - Amazon and Play £439.99.

I ordered one of these yesterday at 12.30pm and got a mail from them at 19:17 telling me they had cancelled the order.
I'm waiting to find out why they did that
#2
Just called their customer services and they have confirmed the phone is not locked to T-mobile and is unbranded.

Also, i guess you will get the in car charger and 4gb memory card when you place this order...making it an amazing deal if so.

They also said to allow 3 days for delivery.

As for the previous post, it may have been because you failed their credit checks??
#3
I failed their credit checks? lol, very doubtful, but I am open to that suggestion

Maybe if they contacted me I would actually know. But, yet I am still waiting.
I have tried to call them, but always get taken to the voice mail, you leave a message and they don't call you back.

Glad to see they told you to allow 3 days delivery, when the web site and actual page says order before 3pm for next day delivery. Looking at the fine print make that before 1pm for next day. Which I did:whistling:

Either way, comunication is rubbish there.

This sounds like a decent deal to me.
Don't think anyone's close to this for unlocked Desire...

seems to be £5 cashback on payg purchases through topcashback

Although its a good price for the Handset compared to other vendors, you can get one thrown in free as part of contract and the overall cost is less than £100 more, or in my case £27 more. I assume people would want some sort of contract to go with the handset.

It's true that the cheapest way is to wait until your contract expires, but many people want to change phones mid contract, thus needing sim-free.

I ordered Weds about 11.30am and received Thurs. If they're now suggesting longer, perhaps they're awaiting new stock.

I'm really tempted, I just decided to wait until the new iPhone info was released, now I'm not so sure. . . I hate this site sometimes ;)

I'm also looking for an unlocked Desire, payg or v.basic/cheap contract. This looked good and I e-mailed yesterday to check unlocked and unbranded. I've just recieved this reply:

I can confirm that we have got these handsets in stock. At present due to a high volume of orders you will need to allow 3 working days for delivery.

If you are purchasing this handset on contract then it will be unlocked, on PAYG it will be a locked handset.

So there is a posibility that the payg phone could be locked........

Even if it's locked you can send it back under the distance selling regs. Just stick your sim in it, if it won't work send it back in the 7 days and you've lost nothing. . .

Need to be a little careful with this as on their returns page its says:

"If you intend to return the phone, do not insert a SIM card as this creates user's settings that will personalise the phone to you and your network."

I dont think they would refuse you a refund though as you can just say one of their reps told you it was unlocked (as they did in my case).

had a pain with these guys - they pretty much told me in the end that their system cant take orders from flats with names (issue matching with credit/debit card) - going to buy from handtec

Good point, also, how are you going to test the signal strength on your network on the handset if you can't put a sim in it !

Nice review on youtube if anyone's looking for one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bx0ZdipB3k
#15
so if you order it sim free it is locked then?

also can anyone confirm that it comes with the car charger and other accessories?
#16
from a retailers point of view, they will have to say it is locked to the network even if its not. They do this as the handset will be subsidised by t-mobile so they wont want to say its unlocked, even though it will be. Lamps

If you order a sim free it's not locked to any network.

They're not selling this as a sim free, they're selling it on T mobile payg, so they have to say it's locked.

Failing credit cheques for a PAYG phone...bit harsh

Is it possible to put TomTom software of this device or is that not possible with Android?

Alright cheers that makes sense, sorry for the ignorance, but if in the future HTC release an update for this phone, will i be able to download it directly for HTC, or will i have to wait for T mobiles version of the update?

hot! Excellent deal. Would get one myself if i wasn't tied to my current contract

I've just called sales and they said that it wont be unlocked. Can anyone confirm this so I can decide whether to buy one or not? I'd rather not have to unlock a phone i've just bought.

I'm in the same boat, if i knew it was guaranteed to come unlocked and unbranded i would order one now. However they probably have to say that they are locked else they would be flooded with people buying a cheap sim free and not using the t-mobile sim (would imagine they get commission for connecting new customers) - however the fact that customer services are saying that they are locked is the only thing that is stopping me....

Anyone know if these might be available from O2 sometime?

voted hot

but

been using the Samsung Galaxy Portal (a.k.a. Spica) for a few weeks now. Fantastic phone, up to 9 customisable home screens, very responsive even packed full of apps and with 3G swithed off, apart from when ispecifically need it (i recommend the APNdroid app for this) the battery lasts in excess of 60 hours.

check out the side by side comparison:
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2965&idPhone2=3077

The price difference is baffling, given the most significant differences are not actually great - the camera (3.2 v 5), processor speed (800MHz v 1GHz) and RAM (unsure of Portal's RAM but very responsive as ive said).

£199.99 PAYG from 3. http://threestore.three.co.uk/priceplans.aspx?phonecode=SAMGPW3DSL

The Desire looks like a great piece of kit but for the more value conscious who are after an Android handset, the Galaxy is worth considering.

Rep for OP for taking the punt.

Iphone 4G probably out in a few months, Iphone OS4 Due Summer for 3GS, not for 3G
#31
Second call produced the same response. Apparently the PAYG t-mobile and vodafone handsets are branded and locked to their respective networks.

It is due to come out on O2 start of may according to their stores. I'm willing to wait until then but if I could get it fairly cheap on sim-free, then I'll just take a out a rolling one month contract with O2.

Could not find any sim-free...

I think the alternative is not the galaxy but the galaxy s, a different beast

It doesn't show up as sim free, you have to select t-mobile pay as you go. Apparently the phone they supply is unlocked and unbranded (i.e. sim free) - but it comes with a seperate t-mobile sim card, however there is no guarantee that the phone they send will be unlocked - hence the discussion
#35
very tempted don't know whether to go for sim free or contract... but thanks anyway

All you would need to do is go into the settings and do a Master Reset to wipe everything back to how it was when you first switched it on.....

If it really is branded T mobile then you'll need to wait for them to release their own firmware (or go to somewhere like XDA (http://www.xda-developers.com/) and download and install a 'cooked' rom.

If it's unbranded then the standard firmware from HTC will install and work. . .

Can I ask what sim you're using in it ?

Probably all the people that sign up for 24 month contracts. :prop:
