Phones4u are sim free i think.

Rang another local and they saying 299.95 not 229.95 so i think this is not nationwide unless someone proves otherwise....
#13
checked in Hounslow & Guilford ( from another post )

Confirmed. I saw this being sold for £229.95 in P4U store Guildford, Surrey high street on Friday. This was for Orange pay-as-you-go upgrade only. And you had to have a Orange SIM for at least 6 months with regular top-ups to get this price.
#15
Thanks to the manager from guidlford ive just got one reserved in my local branch as he rang my local store and told them to price match.

HOT!
#16
Just rang the stores in Hull and they quoted £279 for orange payg + £10 topup
#17
Called Aberdeen & quoted £250.

Are they just making up figures?

This is in Macclesfield store.

I can confirm this is also £229 on upgrade for Orange Pay as you go customers in the lincoln stores.

Great deal, as this is still one of the best phones on the market....until the new batch of super fast, super specced phones hit the stores! but these will also be super expensive!
#20
Checked all 4 or 5 P4U stores in the city centre of Manchester and they are all offering the desire for 229.95. Make sure you have a 6 month old orange sim, around £5 of credit, a working sim that makes calls and it also should be registered to a name (doesnt need to be yours) or else it fails on the system.

They actually have loads available in both brown and white and will all be opened as they claim "we need to check that HTC provided us with all the right contents"....clearly they would have, they are not stupid like half of P4Us staff who dont even know what google android even is. One didnt even know that it had a 5mp camera....Seriously!!! Do they get these sales men from a homeless shelter who can't read or write?!?!!

Anyway rant over, I reckon its a good deal so go out and get it as I surely will.

Could someone who actually has bought a Desire on Orange PAYG from Phones4U confirm:

Is is definitely unlocked?
Is there any Orange Bloatware/software branding?
Is there any physical branding? (i.e: the usual orange square on the battery cover).

Cheers
#22
I do think this is a super hot deal (if you can get it)

heat added

Not sure why this is cold either. I'd have went for this if I'd waited a little longer (paid about £100 more for a second hand Desire HD a month ago). Bloody love the thing :) Though the bigger screen is better for .pdfs, I would've been every bit as happy with the Desire.

The Orange bloatware has a reputation for being rather horrible and slowing phones down, though, so if you can, get rid of it. Hot.

Edit: Actually, I bought an "Orange" W995 PAYG from Phones4U instore a year ago, and right enough, it was unlocked and no Orange firmware guff. So, apologies. Paid blimmin' £30 more than the other networks too (the salesguy knew what he was doing, grr).

I got Desire on O2 contract from Dialaphone which was totally unbranded. Dialaphone are owned by P4U and even had P4U return address on the parcel.

I bough this phone from Phones4U last week for £250 using an orange PAYG sim

It is unlocked
There is no Orange Bloatware/software branding. It's completely unbranded
There is no physical branding. It's completely unbranded

As i mentioned earlier, I bought this phone for £249.99 on Feb 16th. I understand that on Feb 18 Phones4U reduced the price from £249.99 to £229.99 if you upgrade using an orange PAYG sim.

Does anyone know if they will refund me the £30 extra that i paid considering i only bough it two days before the price dropped.

This deal deserves more heat, the desire is a great phone, had mine for quite a while now and it's by far the best phone I've ever had
#30
Just called Phones4U and this offer is still ON!!!

Requirements are that you have a PAYG SIM with atleast £1 credit.
#31
thanks heat added, just bought one today
#32

Does an orange sim on contract qualify?
#34
I would like to know if you have been on contract which Orange if this still applies ?
#35
Paras25- thanks for that.

Realitybites- I would think not- but worth a check.

Still on the fence with this one- great deal for the desire, but may get a better one on Pay Monthly....?
#36
Just phones 2 local stores both never had any p.a.y.g stock but 1 would sell me 1 for £229 on a monthly contract of £10 so may go for this.
I would cancel straight away so phone cost is £239

Is is definitely unlocked? Definately unlocked. I have a t-mobile sim in right now
Is there any Orange Bloatware/software branding? No Orange branding anywhere
Is there any physical branding? (i.e: the usual orange square on the battery cover). Nothing at all

I picked one up from Hull yesterday for £229. Just took a friends Orange payg sim card in.. The guy at the store made a test call and that was it.

Great phone and at a great price.
