I can confirm it is unlocked on Orange. I've just got mine and have been going around with my tesco simcard in it with a smartphone wafer unlocker in for the last few days... just taken it out and it still works. Doh!
#11
This isn't available on vodafone. That's a different deal with no data included. :(
#12
How can I confirm it is _not_ AMOLED like it says on the deal?

How are you sure this is unlocked? I spoke to a live assistant on phones4u this morning on their website and they said the HTC Desire phones are locked to the network you go with. So who's right?

Although SLCD appears better or at least as good?

According to Wikipedia...
During late Q2 2010, HTC made the decision to switch the Desire's display to a Sony "Super LCD" panel. Although this was brought on by a severe AMOLED panel supply shortfall, the new display greatly enhances text readability because of its improved effective resolution, one of the few complaints people had with the original Desire model.
Compared to the original AMOLED display, the SLCD display has more accurate color reproduction, far less susceptibility to burn-in, similar peak brightness and optimal viewing angles, but a lower contrast ratio.
The new SLCD display was claimed to have similar or better power efficiency compared with the original AMOLED display; however, this has proved to not always be the case because with AMOLED pixels' ability to completely turn off, black or dark pixels use very little power.[3] However, in situations when the screen is predominantly bright (such as when viewing many web pages), the AMOLED display uses more power.

250mb won't get you very far. I got one of the first Desire's on T-mobile 12 months ago. For £15 a month I got unlimited landlines, 300 x network minutes, 300 texts and 3gb data.

Don't know why people complain about it not being AMOLED. Pretty sure people just say it without even seeing the difference.

I've seen the two side by side and the SLCD looks way better. The AMOLED had better, deeper blacks but looked all "fuzzy" due to the pixel arrangement. The SLCD looked way sharper and had nicer colours (less saturated) and would have been the one I had chosen.

Here's a picture showing the differences between the two:

I wouldnt recommend this phone. I've had three handsets so far. The first two developed the same fault. Both kept turning themselves off randomly. I was unable to make calls or send texts.

I seem to be ok with the 3rd one but i'm guessing the same will issue with arise with that.

Orange tied me down to the contract and all they will do is replace the phone each time it breaks.

Fantastic deal for a fantastic phone, sure you don't get massive amounts of minutes or data but unless you're a callaholic it shouldn't be a problem, use wifi for data

I've had no issues with mine and the screen is excellent, just as good as the OLED one

It's probably a flexible booster that you can change every month.

Ye looks like a cracking deal. People are moaning that there's not enough mins, this deal ain't for you then. I for one use far more texts and deals like this suit me (and I'm sure many more people).

But I can swap each month between 300 minutes or unlimited landlines to 300 texts or unlimited texts. I don't use that many texts so I choose the landline option. This is a poor deal imo. The data is extremely low and it's no good telling people to use wifi. That's ok if you spend the majority of time at home or if you're on O2 and you get free wifi via Openzone or The Cloud. Once you're out of range of a wifi connection 250mb isn't going to get you very far.

I moved from O2 to 3 as they wouldn't offer me any decent deal. My husband was already on 3 and he got this deal for me. Phone was free - just £18 a month for the package for 24 months. So far, the phone hasn't let me down and it has lots of features that I haven't even tried yet!

So - you primarily got a deal as an existing customer - not likely for the rest of us then - unless he will offer to get the deal for us :-)

What phone do you get with this £18 a month deal?

Rather than expire this thread I've reverted the title show the product still available on this tariff (Orange Network) Vodafone no longer offer 3,000 texts, only 500.8)
