Fantastic new 4.3" ultra-thin HTC Windows Phone 7.

I urge everyone to go into a shop and try it out before making comments.

The thing is with WM7, MS really gets it. It realises that people want current information displayed all the time (tiles on home screen) but also want a list of icons of installed stuff (on right screen). The phone runs lighteningly quickly, the browser is great and despite the newness there are some seriously good games and apps on the app store.

Of course la piece de resistance is the xbox live integration. MS made a fabuolous interface with the Zune Hd but never marketed it. MS made the best (arguable) gaming interface & online experience with the xbox 360. Now these are fused together and uprated to make a truely original phone. Which is quite simply, just loads of fun! (my kids love to make new avatars for xbox live - and all this goodness is free!).

Finally, worth mentioning, is the MS Cloud experience. Not just that skydrive will be integrated with the next software release, but I have my contacts on Outlook on my PC. There is a free connector from MS that syncs with your MS live account, and then this comes onto the phone automatically. Great. Like Android with gmail, except that you have to pay for gsyncit. And Apple still wants $99 a year for the privelage.

I suggest everyone open their mind and try this out. Imagine how great future software updates will make this if v1 is so awesome (and the HD7 will be in it for the long haul).

Remember those who said Android didn't have a chance, and it overtook Apple for sales in 2 years. WM7 is set to be in the top 3 permanently.

This phone is available instore (need £10 topup unless you have O2 PAYG SIM) or online for £380 less quidco.

No you don't. All Gmail contacts are automatically synced for free, from phone to Gmail and vice versa. To do this on your phone make new contacts as a Gmail contact. Simples. Free.

Windows Phone 7 looks amazing, i for one wish to convert from iOS. Been using the iphone since its initial release, now, put against the competition the OS itself, in terms of UI & interaction is looking somewhat outdated.

All the stock apps on WP7 are superb and the speed and fluidity is truly surprising - MS have done a great job. Unfortunately its not all uber good. Still no true task switching or copy/paste feature and IE is alot slower in terms of java processing & thus, in general slower to open web pages compared to iOS & Andriod. All in All, an impressive début!

Im loving the simplicity and minimalistic user interface. Although, its still early days and the product will need time to mature - so i'll wait for the time-being.

Personally, I foresee Apples mobile consumer share dwindling over next few years. I dont see the appeal anymore, in fact, you have no choice with apple. What grates me now is, over the past 3 years+ i've purchased numerous apps that has cost quite a bit, these apps are only useable on a apple handset. If I ever wish to purchase another phone it would have to be Apple unless im willing to lose all the money on the apps ive spent. Only upgrade path with apple is apple - no choice!

BUT, if you buy a Andriod or WP7 handset you have the choice of half a dozen phone manufacturers. The pace and advancement in phone technology (it seems every 6 months there's a new model refresh) provides ample choice and pricepoints to match a broad consumer market.

What is this post? A Ballmer kiss butt advert for everything Micro$oft??

I for one foresee MS taking the bigger slice of the market in the years to come. Once the OS has matured after several upgrades (to include features/functionalities on par with its competitors) supplemented by Xbox Live, MS Office and Business Support (outlook - connect exchange) and its free cloud add-on - it should be the best on-the-go business/Gaming/Productive/Social Networking phone device on the market.

Question is...will the phone look sexy?

it is getting boring how there win7 threads keep getting cold, almost certainly from people who have never used it, and certainly have not used it for any time. All the people that HAVE (tech sites and reviewers) all say it's a very worthwhile OS, but the fan boys show the fear that the mighty ios/android/BB (delete as appropriate) may be shown as even slightly infoerior...

silly really. I don't own one yet, but am very interested. I was waiting for wp7 to compare with android, and so far, looks very worthwhile... good price for this phone though...!

I totally agree with that. A lot of people who comment negatively keep referring to WINDOWS MOBILE!. This is an entirely different OS called WINDOWS PHONE 7 and it absolutely rocks. I've been to the O2 shop in Nottingham city centre to have a play with this and it is unbelievably good. I've got an HTC HD2 and an HTC Desire and in my view, the new Windows Phone OS is pretty fantastic in comparison. The device itself looks classy and well built when you hold it. What I like most about it is the real time updating of stuff like e-mail and facebook right on the home screen. It is definitely worth the price which is why I'm voting this HOT.......

Symbian is dead (oh yes) I had P990i. it was perfect hardware. but symbian os was piece of crap. and SE never fixed bugs or updated it.
Never again....
Iphone is perfect it does what says on the tin.
I have G1 since its launch Android is perfect. I just updated my two year old G1 with Froyo 2.2 ( Custom mod rom Cayanogen 6). Its like having a new phone.
At the moment all WM7 reviews are biased. even this thread .....
for this phone credit goes to HTC not MS imo.

While I am prepared to give it time, I can't believe the basic features missing from windows 7 (or whatever it is called). This is the end of 2010 and for microsoft to omit such standard features, especially with their experience and know-how in smart phones, is just criminal. Apple got away with it as they were a new entrant and brought a lot of innovation to the mobile industry (multi-touch for one) but I'm less confident microsft will succeed.

A poor first effort IMHO - and quite a few people agree I think.

Because Symbian is a dying operating system. Nokia will be the only supporter and even they will eventually ditch it and go Android.

by concentrating on what isn't in, rather then what is in, is a poor way to understand and judge anything !

I can do a 10 page rant on Apple iOS and Android (although do I like both), but I really can't be bothered .....

The fact you call it Windows 7 (or whatever its called) , hardly highlights your researching skills or ability to judge to the product.

Indeed. I'm considering purchasing one and was happy reading some of the pros and cons in those threads until they mysteriously disappeared.

Isn't this meant to be based entirely on whether it's a good deal or not? Some people actually want this phone. If you rate it down then post somewhere cheaper... isn't that how it's meant to work?

I came here thinking ohhh brilliant it's -47 i wonder where it's cheaper than 380 but alas nothing of the sort.
#22
I hate the fact this is not on vodafone

I got this deal to try it out but returned it. Yes the built in apps are fast but the ones from the app store are extremely slow, something to do with a virtual machine. 45 seconds to load up a game of Bejewlled is truly awful...got bored and played some cut the rope on my iphone.

Back in stock

And actually a really good deal - boo !!!
