First post, so go easy!
I managed to get the decent T-mobile deal at £25 a month with free phone a couple of weeks ago, but unfortunately the reception was awful. Thankfully T-mobile took it back, and I was left with Orange as the only other native carrier.
I couldn't get the sales team to budge on the price, unless I was going for a £34 a month contract.
What I discovered though, was that Orange have a promotion on with Quidco at the moment, with £150 cashback. This means that you can get their lowest tariff (Dolphin 25) for £19.57 a month. Add on £4.89 for internet, and you've got £24.46 total monthly cost. This is an 18 month tariff, not 24!
The Dolphin 25 tariff has 200 mins and unlimited text. The data bundle is 500MB, not as generous as T-mobile's unfortunately.
The phone is still £146.50, but my quidco tracked a few hours after completing the order, for £150, effectively making the phone free! Quidco is definitely what makes this a good deal.

i know some people like to have the whole price specified so here goes:
18*24.46 = 440.28
Phone cost = 146.50
Quidco cashback = 150
Total = 586.78 or 436.78 with successful Quidco

thats pretty good.

I managed to haggle with Orange for this phone and got it for free on 18month contract with 900 mins, unlimited text and unlimited internet (well 500mb) and a £30 credit for the first month.

Took a while but I got there with them only thing is no quidco when doing over the phone and when the first bill came no £30 credit or free internet which a couple of phone calls sorted out!

Great phone for anyone looking for a smart phone this xmas

when quidco did a 150 quids offer for an orange contract recently many signed up.
But later Orange declined some of them on the grounds that they subscribed to a discounted tariff which was against the quidco cashback terms...
looking at your post the 25 pounds line rental was discounted to 20 pounds hence there is every chance that your 150 quidco would not pay up....

Just a word of caution....

Ah, I wasn't aware of that - is that the only reason I've gone subzero?
As far as I can tell, ALL the tariffs on Orange's website are discounted (unless they're only available online - and none of those tariffs are available with the Hero anyway), and there's nothing in the Quidco T's and C's on the page suggesting that discounted tariffs aren't eligible. Seems a bit daft and misleading to offer something that no-one can claim.

Just to confirm, the Terms and Conditions state the following, and there's nothing about discounted tariffs being ineligible:
http://www.quidco.com/orange/#merchant-terms
Please note that your cashback on pay monthly contracts will be subject to a two-month validation period from connection. No cashback will be paid on upgrades or on cancelled / unsuccessful connections. Cashback is paid per basket, not per phone. Cashback is not paid on reconditioned PAYG phones or accessories. Cashback is not paid on iPhones. *This offer does not apply to Orange 5 and Orange 10 PAYM 36 Month tariffs.

Quidco just seem to turn down with the least effort - I've lost out on cashback on around £1000 of purchases this year, and their support is minimal. Whilst many scream they have never had a failure to be paid, they are just lucky, as there are many of us who have had one or many purchases fail, even though we were motivated to buy because of the cashback. They're a somewhat faceless unaccountable organisation, and need to change and be more accountable, otherwise other cashback outfits will prosper instead.

Not voting on this deal, just wishing everyone the best of success with their cashback, as well as customers of recent deals who've received nothing so far.

I used the orange 150 quidco deal a few months back, with the usual online tariff discount (taking my raccoon 30 tariff from 12 x £30 down to 12 x £27ish before quidco, with a nokia 5800 thrown in, nice work). It was fine. The quidco came through bang on schedule, just as suggested by the terms and conditions and the (reassuringly good) quidco orange merchant statistics (not visible just now on quidco site due to site upgrading). The stats are the amalgamation of thousands of anecdotal feedback stories like mine and the others above so I'd use them as your main guide.

If you're doing a dolphin deal, check the raccoon version too, as it sometimes has more (landline) minutes. Also, consider the 12 month versions - they cost more but you have to calculate what the ebay value of the new phones is (i.e. 6 phones in 6 years with 12 mth contracts rather than 3 or 4 with 24mth and 18mnth contracts).

You mentioned the 500mb internet thing. On the 12mth contracts, you have to take out the internet option at start of contract to get it for £5. It's normally £7.50, or £5 just for evenings and weekends. But with evenings and weekends you get 1000mb rather than 500mb. I went for evenings and weekends for cost reasons. I installed joikuspot (free app that lets my phone act as a wi-fi hotspot) and cancelled my broadband! If I get near the limit I switch over to opera mini (Which uses way less bandwidth than firefox etc). You can run on a laptop with a "mobile emulator". Or use desktop Opera which has a less extreme compressor thing in it.

Yes this was the information I read on discussion in MSE boards where a lot of discussion was going on. This is not to scare you or any potential buyers but to make the people aware that quidco can NEVER BE TAKEN FOR GRANTED.

I dont want to argue if quidco has been good or bad to me. I never missed out any cashbacks from them except for a 100pounds P4U been declined a while ago which even after raising a query failed to get resolved.

But users please excercise some caution and please do not count on quidco cashback when you make a decision to buy something

No, I think you've gone subzero because there are other networks who will give you a Hero for free if you pay £25 a month. I couldn't imagine paying that much in line rental plus paying them for the handset as well.

Course, if you factor in it's 18 months not 24 then the balance is readdressed a bit, but tbh I still think this is way overpriced. Not because of the phone though - I have one and it's brilliant, best I've ever had.

Only T-mobile, and following those conversations a lot of people are in the same boat as me, i.e. the reception isn't good enough.
Again, from the other threads, I know a lot of people here were looking for a decent deal on Orange, and factoring in the quidco this seemed to be the best deal available - especially when as you say its an 18 month deal.

And two months later, right on cue, Orange have validated the £150 cashback!
