Good price. Think it would be worth getting on a contract though instead of paying £400 outright. My contract is up for renewal in November. I'm still torn between Microsoft or jump in with Android.

I use a G1 mate, and I could not recommend it any more. Its the best phone I have ever had, Android is so much fun.

I second this. I've had several windows mobile devices before my G1, and the G1 absoloutly blows them away in terms of the OS. Android offers so much in comparison to windows mobile.

Worth looking at the HTC Touch Diamond 2 as its the same spec apart from a higher resolution screen (on the Touch Diamond 2) and the are working over on xda at porting the hero rom to work on it.

had the htc tytn2 and now thank god i am at the end of my contract next month.
they look the part but i would not reccommend them. battery life is awful, touch screen is more like having to stab the screen for it to respond, terrible lag on functions performed, and the most disappointing aspect was that t-mobile never once gave an upgrade to the rom. Which was available to other users of the tytn 2 around the world. and of course it has crashed and needed a hard reset 3 times in 18 months. sure some stuff you have saved but some you inevitably lose.
in comparison i have used the iphone which wins no contest. beware of htc phones on uk networks.
i notice on the youtube clip it is a cgi phone. see if you can do all that in real life at those speeds before judging.

Play.COM are outside the UK and so not covered by the Sale of Goods Act - thus buying anything expensive/complex from them is a BAD IDEA

For electronics etc. stick to UK suppliers and you have the SoGA on your side if it develops a fault - that tiny saving you're highlighting could be staggeringly costly in the longer term.

Android is so much better than windows mobile. Iv got a HTC touch dual running WM 6.1 pro and my girlfriend has the G1 ........ it hurts to say her phone is far far better

It's a lot for a phone, my 18 month contract with a BB Bold that I started about 11months ago will cost about £670 over the 18 months including the calls - 1200mins free land line, email, date & sms 500 a month.

Also not sure how quick you can type on these with a virtual keyboard.

Not sure.

I had a tytn 2 as well and recently sold it but for a different reason. It was just too big to carry around when I do not use the qwerty at all. But it was absolutely the best smartphone I had. You mentioned your provider did not put out a new rom but all you have to do is download the many roms available by others. For info, u can read about it here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/ I did and the phone is brilliant.

Nice price for a simfree. Ordered one yesterday - used a £10 off voucher which expired yesterday. I think the £5 off voucher is still valid

great phone, really want one, but am happy with my tc touch pro for now.

I have the HTC Magic running Android 1.5 and I have to say it is awesome. The OS is far more stable and user friendly than Windows Mobile and the touch screen is responsive.

Is there a tomtom version for Android ? I doubt it ..without it imho no point having a phone of this size really, just a symbian phone or iphone toy would be fine then ...

eXpansys have some details of T-Mobile contracts too! T-Mobile still haven't said a release date for it, so could be wrong.

http://www.expansys.com/nc.aspx?i=184566

On 12months for £35/month the phone is £80 and you get 300mins, 200 texts and unlimited internet which would be £500 over the year. So you get the mins etc for £8ish. If the details are right! Obviously the 18 month contract offers more but it's 18 months.

I'm still waiting to see what the contracts Orange offers are like, still says coming soon on their website.

The £35 a month isn't bad considering the rumours regarding oranges 24 month deal. rep added.

Cold vote is confusing me, this looks like a good deal, but if people are voting cold there should be a better one somewhere right?
#22
Not sure why this is cold. I ordered from expansys. Used a £5 voucher plus you get a £30 voucher when you get it.

Plus it's the white one which has the teflon coating. Think it looks nicer than the orange offering.

I'm starting to get fed up with oranges contract deals. I mean £35 per month contracr for 18 months and then £100 for the phone?

Thats £730 in total. Or buy the phone for £400 then take out a sim only contract with t-mobile or someone @ £15 per month with minutes, unlimited text and unlimited internet access. Total: £670 plus you can cancel at any time.

I'm sure contract deals used to be good but these 18/24 month deals are pathetic! I struggle to keep a phone for 12months without getting bored let alone 2 years!

And as to the Windows Mobile or Android discussion. I have had pretty much every HTC WM phone since the orignal SPV, look for me on modaco if you don't believe me. I've now moved to android and i've never been happier. The Android market makes everything much easier. The user interface is much nicer especially on the Hero. And if you are into application development like me then the SDK and publishing to market are second to none.

Matt
