Mobile of the Year 2009
http://www.htc.com/www/product/hero/overview.html

The Android 2.1 update became available from this week too.
It's also quite easily unlocked using a code from eBay (from £6.50)

Worth the extra £50 over the T-Mobile Pulse any day!

**EDIT to add Possible £12 Quidco too

There's a great community for Rooting and installing Custom Roms on your Hero here.
http://android.modaco.com/category/409/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/

If that's the sort of thing you're into.

Three, the mobile phone operator in the UK, has confirmed to Pocket-lint that its HTC Hero customers won't be getting the Android 2.1 update until "Mid to late July.":x

Yes; the OS when upgraded to Android 2.1 will be pretty much identical to that of the HTC Desire.

These are easy to unlock. I used an ebay seller called express-codes who were great. I think it was about £8.

Less than 4 weeks then.....
#24
hot. would have been nice to have a quick delivery
#25
Had one of these, found it particularly slow so returned to the iPhone. Not sure if 2.1 will help with the speed?
#26
Whats the size like compared to the iphone ?

Yes that's what they say now;-)
#28
I saw this earlier and considered posting but if your spending that much on the handset I would think most people would prefer it free on a £15 a month contract or £60 on a £10 a month contract. Maybe I'm wrong though :)
#29
Not really, I am going sim only with 3 when my contract is up, looking at £15 - £20 less a month on a monthly contract not tied to a handset for 2 years.

It's a bit smaller. The screen is 3.2" as opposed the the iPhones 3.5". I've had mine about 9 months now and I still love it. Been running custom ROMs since day one though (Modaco), they are much better and faster than stock ROMs. My missus has the iPhone 3GS and in terms of speed id say their about the same, sometimes the iPhone UI seems faster because of fancy swishy animations, but you can add these to the Hero using the 'Spare Parts' app.

Don't count on the Quidco. Mine got declined because I'd 'used a voucher code' - I hadn't so it took months of chasing up and proving my point until it got paid.

I had a refurb phone from them too, it came in a plain box wit the bare essentials. The phone sucks (SE T715) but that's not Three's fault :)

Quidco is really crap now. I have several cashbacks rejected. - £ 150 orange - £ 20 for dell order, and some other stuff. They

"Refurbished" usually means sent back within the cooling-off period. It doesn't mean the thing was broken and has been pulled apart and mended - it's just not worth doing that with consumer electronics nowadays. And if you see the strict conditions they put on allowing you to return handsets you can be sure that the condition will either be mint or so close to it that the phone would look that way with a week of normal use anyway. But there are plenty of fools who waste their money on brand spanking new because they don't like the idea of another human being having touched their gadget before they get their hands on it...
#34
Ordered one for the Mrs trying to wean her off crappy sony handsets...plus I want to compare it to my iphone. If she doesnt like it I will send it back.

£12 possible quidco looks a bargain to me.

I doubt they will be returns from customers. I would think they are being ordered by 3 from HTC (ie the long wait). They normally mend the phone, re-case it and white box ship it with new accessories.

Can someone talk to me about unlocking this handset? Had terrible trouble with a nokia x6 i bought off ebay and was told in the description it was easy to unlock. No where can do it.

And having done some research, three do not allow you to phone up and get an unlock code? So does anyone have any advice?
#37
Have been waiting ages for the update 2.1 I am on T-mobile, still unsure when this will become available.
As for this deal I would advise to wait especially if the phone is not even in stock. The phone itself is a good phone but it does now need the update asap.
Normally you would get a good waranty even with referbs so that needs to be checked out.
Have not voted either way as there is a date for stock levels but we all know that date can sometimes go on and on.

You can pay 3 £15 to unlock or pay a seller on ebay like I did £7 to unlock, this is done by a code normally within a few hours
