Either that or the calls. Economically it is a good deal on the face of it. 12 months is a short contract and you're ultimately getting a decent deal on the phone. But practically it is unlikely that anyone with such a moderate usage would want this phone. Those who are willing to spend this amount of money on either a phone or phone contract are likely to have much higher usage figures, meaning that realistically this will cost them a lot more. Unless of course they already have a T-Mobile contract that would be suitable, but then you might as well just get the phone.

I agree that there aren't loads of mins or txt's but Web'n'Walk is included and therefore this is a great deal for someone who wants unlimited Web and email (me for example). There are plenty of other deals eg. 500 min + 375 txt + Web'n'Walk for £39.15 pm + 14.99 for phone. Total cost = £488.78 inc del.

The Android OS is excellent. There are loads of free apps too!

Is the phone locked on T Mobile?

BRILLIANT DEAL, I bought on Orange, much worse deal but T-mobile are not good in my area.

Given the choice even with t-mob having poor spots I'd have picked this as its so much better than my deal!

Oh and best phone I've ever seen. I love it, so far it does everything I like about iphone and more

What's the phone like? I still haven't decided whether to go for this yet. Currently using Windows Mobile so I guess anything would be an improvement.

seems like a very expensive gadget

Is the web-n-walk truly unlimited web browsing without catches?
If so this is a great deal for me, I don't make a lot of calls, I hate texting, only do it when absolutely necessary.
But I'd like a phone that actually WORKED on the web, with a contract which meant I didn't have to worry about how long I was spending on it.

...

Not truly unlimied but I have never had a problem and I use for over an hour each day. There was a period when I was using the phone as a modem which you aren't stricly allowed to do.... they would warn you if they saw an issue with the usage and may be restrict yr connection as a last resort.

A stonking HOT deal for this phone. 12 months internet included - which will likely be the prime use for a phone of this type...

Cracking deal!!

Was just about to order one, but did a check on the t-mobile site for coverage where I live, and there’s no 3g coverage :x

Looking at the 12 month deals from Vodafone on the same site, they don’t seem as good, and from what I can gather the FUP on t-mobile is 1GB and only 500MB on Vodafone

Btw – I was in a Vodafone shop in Belfast last week, and asked them about the FUP, the guy said it was 500MB, and no one in the UK has ever went over it!!!! Had to laugh, I was on 3 with 1GB FUP and got texts all the time to say I was approaching the limit!!

Just bagged this! Deal basically pays for itself and this is one of the most desirable phones around - for all your interminable browsing needs web-phone-junkies!

So far I'm loving it, very easy to use, android apps seem excellent so far. I've had windows mobile phones in the past and this destroys them. I've basically become the office geek showing off all the features of the phone.

The only negative so far is the lack of a decent free navigation software. The facebook, twitter, stock market, news apps are great. I really can't recommend it enough.

Now showing as 3 working days delivery for white.

For those that aren't sure about white it is now available in black  for next working day delivery! White was the only thing holding me back so I have now gone for it.

How do peops find the camera without a flash for everyday use, e.g. indoors/down the pub? This is the closest I've got to finding something to replace my N82 with. (Secretly hopes he's wrong about this having no flash). I'm also assuming I'll have to move from o2 given their iPhone oppression.

I would personally steer WELL clear of t-mobile contracts. The coverage is horrendously bad - I never ever get more than 2 bars signal ANYWHERE I go. My home is in the middle of a fairly large town, no signal at all. My mums house is in the middle of a large town, no signal at all. My best mates house is in the middle of a medium sized town, no signal whatsoever. They also have many hidden charges making them more expensive than the other providers for the same contracts.

Complete crap.

I would recommend instead, www.mobiles.co.uk have a great offer on a vodafone contract, Your Plan 300.

£35 a month, 12 month contract. 300 minutes and unlimited texts. Phone is £19.99 but you can get £40 quidco back. No data, but you can bolt that ontop for an extra £5 pm. Effectively you get a much better provider, miles better coverage, unlimited texts, better roaming coverage/rates, for pretty much the same price (infact, you save £20). Which makes it a bargain.

Why?

As for this deal it seems really good, ive got the HTC Magic and its a fantastic phone so if this is as good as that you'll be getting a stunning phone - i personally prefer the look of the magic over this.

Sounds like your phone is broken :-D I get coverage everywhere but on trains. I've had no hidden charges whatsoever and coverage has been great. In fact, the reason I went with T-Mobile is because their flext contracts were the most transparent. Non of that "Half price line rental for X months" crap.

Plus 2 bars is fine. It's digital so you should have the same call quality until you get 0 bars.

Same as you - I've been on T-mobile for about 2 1/2 years, mainly due to flext and their web'n'walk. Very clear pricing and reasonable coverage. I do have two dead spots in my house and one at work but that's all :)

Definately not, as I had a T-Mobile contract 3 years ish ago when I got my N70, and had the exact same issues. They promised they'd been solved, but its exactly the same. When calling to ask about it, they promised it would be solved early in the next year when they start to piggyback three's 3g network. My HTC Diamond2 is sim free, and putting my works orange sim card in it results in perfectly good signal anywhere I go.

I have no choice but to stick with them till my contracts expired, but I don't fancy my chances.
#27
I've been on Web n Walk for around 18 months, I get 3.5G more often than not. Never had an issue with usage either.

The only thing stopping me getting this is the lack of a flash and camera button - I'm used to an N95 which has a camera button in the obvious place when turned on its side.
#28
I have been with T-mobile for 15 years now, and I have not had any problem with coverage. Also have an O2 phone, and coverage seems like for like everywhere I travel. There may be problems with some handsets, but generally T-mobile's coverage across the UK seems to be on par with most networks.

Thanks for this. It might be just me (or the person that took the photos!), but almost all these photos look out of focus.:?
{edit}
Found these pics which look better:

However, of even more use is this comparison of N82, N97 and HTC Magic! It's really an N97 review though.

Those are for the HTC Magic, not the Hero - the Magic has a 3.5 Megapixel sensor, the Hero has a 5 (although there's more important factors that just the resolution)

Hi, I have been researching this phone for ages and just love the look of it from the videos I have seen .......getting well fed up with the Iphone 1G with its lack of MMS and bluetooth and ready for a change - still cant get MMS or proper bluetooth even with OS3 which by the way according to O2 (and me ) has been causing problems with people not being able to hear you when you call them

Anyway backto the Hero......I have seen some recent comment that the spec is not up to the task of manging the new interface and that some features are sluggish......what is your experience as I wouldn't want to jump in at this price if the next version HTC put out (Superman?) has the publicised improvments in hardware specification?

Cheers

I've heard that putting a class 6 memory card in in place of the class 4 one that comes with it improves performance a lot.

Thanks for the info but I didn't think this was an issue with the memory card...more an issue with the amount of ROM/RAM and the processor that they are using......I will look into it a bit more and wait for some end user comments before I decide.

I have had this phone over 1 week now all i can say is its brilliant.
I had the htc touch hd before have had iphone 3g/s etc and this is the best of the bunch.
You can get Copilot 8 live with uk map £21on it for sat nav as well no locks for me yet no freezes and not sluggish i beleive this was on the pre release when the phone was being tested but with the now final release its all fine.
I have loads games/apps on it all free from the android market place and the sat nav so have given it a good testing. Changed ringtones txt tones have repeating software for missed txts calls etc so making the phone work lol all fine great phone
I went for 24mth deal on orange unlimited txts 1200 mins unlimited net free phone and that was on 1st day release £29 per mth

Got a G1, but Android works like a dream online. With T-Mob on web'n'walk, use a lot of data for videos on top of standard data traffic and not had a problem.

Anyone know if this phone will be T-Mobile branded or will it come unlocked with HTCs own software on it?

Not 100% sure, but I recently bought the HTC Touch Pro 2 from mobile phones direct on a T-Mobile contract, and it came completely unbranded & unlocked with standard HTC software
