You could buy a blu ray player with usb and network streaming for this price. Why on earth would you want to play anything from your phone to a TV ? You'd have to plug the phone into the wall anyway, as the battery would diminish in no time running on battery alone, so hardly a "wireless" concept.

It mirrors your phone which you cannot get with network streaming and works in the background leaving you to do other tasks with the phone. Battery yes agreed, it will be a problem but again technology is still evolving there...

I can see what it can do, just can't understand why you'd bother, especially for the movie parts.

      1. Download 1080p illegally (unless someone can tell me where I can download legal 1080p movies)
      2. Remove memory card from phone and insert into card reader
      3. copy movie to card
      4. remove card and insert back to phone.
      5. plug all the cables into the phone
      6. plug all the cables into the TV
      7. setup software for mirroring and streaming
      8. plug phone in to avoid battery dissipation

All to watch a movie or look at photos which you could have looked at on a USB card reader/stick

I can't think of anything else I'd want to mirror my phone onto the TV for, certainly not crappy apps and games.

It's just a gimmick, which might come in handy during business presentations. Porbably not woth the proce, but I can understand why somebody would want it. Although I wouldn't buy it, it's still cheaper than anywhere else.

You can get legal Hi-res movie rentals for 5p/49p from HTC Watch. This is ideal to watch them on a larger screen than the phone. Its also an easy option for playing recorded videos, just swipe up on the phone screen and your 1080p video from the OneX plays on your TV wirelessly.

Renderman, the HTC One, which this adapter is made for, doesnt have removable storage. The steps would be

      1. Download/record movie.
      2. Turn on TV and change to the right HDMI port.
      3. Swipe 3 fingers up on the phone
      4. start video/movie/photos

There are also some pretty good games made for the Tegra3 which you could mirror on the TV.

Personally, I use my smartphone (with unlimited data access) more, to surf the web, watch video clips (either streamed from the Internet or recorded on my phone) than I use my laptop. I occasionally play games and at times would appreciate seeing things on a much larger display, apps included!
Each to their own I suppose, but it comes down to personal preference, doesn't it? So instead of trying to 'put down' something you have no use for, leave the commenting to those who have something positive to share with those who see the potential benefits of such a set-up.

Using this as hdmi link frees up USB port for keyboards mouse whatever. Just need USB host mode enabled, Ubuntu installed on phone and you have fully functional desktop and phone with no reboot! Also using a dlna lead won't allow you to send a stream to TV whilst you browse/txt on phone, also its possible to have phone as controller with game on big screen. Just use your imagination!

Will wait for this, seems expensive for the time being..... Otherwise maybe that mhl adaptor will do with an extra long hdmi cable!

why would you suggest buying a blu ray player instead of this, which is the size of a matchbox and runs off usb, my media link sits on the tv stand plugged in to the rear usb port on my xbox, my blu ray player takes up a whole shelf and has a plug

i download films on htc watch for 5p and play them through my tv, swiping 3 fingers on the phone screen and it's mirrored on the tv half a second later, also handy for showing people stuff like pictures, websites, videos etc instead of passing your phone around

as for the battery, after i've streamed a full movie the battery is down less than 5% and that's with using the phone for txts and stuff during the streaming

5%? What rom are you on?
My htc one x doesn't last as long as it should right now on Official Three Rom!
May look into other roms but so many fixes which also brings updates to the radio etc....

i have the one s not one x

it's not branded and i haven't done anything to it, i did an update yesterday but i was getting excellent battery life before it anyway

Ok cool, good choice over the one x I reckon, maybe I should have gotten that instead.... Although the 720p screen is great.... Hope they improve the software soon anyway for the battery life....
