great phone, so why did they waste it on WM6.5?

Android FTW. What a disaster!
#2
Yeah! Android and its AMAZING entertainment software selection!!!! All four of them!

Firkkin thing cant even play Divx due to its knackered codec system.

WM has its flaws but available software isnt one of them.

When did you last check it, 1960? Seriously i just looked in the Entertainment section and got fed up of scrolling down through the apps after about 10 minutes.

I got to agree with the first comment, the HD2 looks like a beautiful phone but WM will kill it. You would think with a processor twice as fast as the Hero it would be twice as speedy, but WM will use all that 1GHz and more.
#4
i use 6.1 on my htc touch diamond and it's plenty quick enough. often have like 5 or 6 applications running at once without any issues.
#5
I run a work HTC windows mobile based phone and its the worst thing I have ever had the misfortune to be given...it is that bad I would actually buy a blackberry out of my own money if my employer would let me.

So many issues, crashing, freezing, tiny touch screen buttons, rubbish keyboard, poor touch screen, bluetooth that doesn't work with most car kits ( including those HTC recomend )

AVOID IMHO

Yes, had a Samsung omnia with windows on it, wasn't impressed with the OS, so slow, and other issues. Don't know this phone, but I'm put off win mobiles.

Also, hate 18 month and longer contracts too.
#7
you'd be extremely hard pressed to get a phone of this inherent quality on a contract less than 18 months, or for less cost-wise for that matter.

usual cold-voters, can't come up with a better deal.

thanks OP, bit of food for thought for me as my contract doesn't have too long to run and i'd be MORE than happy to go for another HTC phone, considering the excellent quality my touch diamond is.

I dont get this. How can this deal be cold? This is the hottest phone this year, imho. Yes, it runs windows mobile but this particular model has been customised by HTC and it is pretty much the fastest and most responsive smart phone at the moment, FACT. various benchmarks have been done elsewhere to compare different phones, but have a look at this video for instance, comparing the HD2, iphone and acer neo touch. http://dailymobile.se/2009/11/02/htc-hd2-vs-iphone-3gs-vs-acer-neotouch-web-browsing-test/[/URL]

In terms of price it is about the cheapest deal I've found so far. Too bad I'm tied down with a bloody iphone contract for another 5 months.

Great find. Have some heat!

Thats because you didn't find anything good. I have a htc hero right now, its going on ebay.

Its irrelevant anyway.... but you didn't mention quality, you mentioned there being four apps in the entertainment section which is so wrong its untrue.

At least you'll get a good price for your Hero with it being reviewed as the best phone available right now. (prior to the HD2 being released... how that affects things we'll have to see) Out of everyone I know who has had one, only you have ever said you don't like it :?

PS. If you don't use so many minutes but still want the fone free there is another great plan...

£22.50 p/m (18 month contract)
200 mins
400 txts
UNLIMITED mobile internet (I think Tmobile are 1GB/month fair usage?)
HTC Touch 2 - fone is FREE.
Delivered free.

http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-phones/phones/pay-monthly/htc/touch-2/combi/18mth-combi-20-webnwalk/allowances/

When you do the maths the contract totals £405 for the 18 months which is a top price for the phone, never mind having 200 mins, 400 txts and unlimited mobi internet thrown in.

Yes, you are tied in for 18 months, but its rare not to be these days on contract.

different phone that one
#14
Yeah, this is hot deal for this phone. It is a real shame it comes with an Windows OS and I would be buying this over the Hero if it ran Android. £630 for the true price (35x18) and with all you need in a contract.

You won't find this much cheaper than £500 sim-free in most places.

Have to agree Windows mobile isnt very good and slows the hell out of anything it touches - but and its a big but Android phone dont run MS Outlook or Office so if you want to use as a work phone your stuffed.
In addition when I had a G1 couldnt run TomTom either. Has that changed ?
So pay your money and take your choice

with my phone - all at the same time - i can have multiple RSS feeds refreshing, coupled with two separate browsers (each with multiple tabs open if need be), look at my photos or videos, check out facebook (why i bother, i don't know), send a text or MMS, check out my calendar, take a call and then go back to listening to my bluetooth podcast when i finish the call.

who says WM is crap?

by far the best phone i have ever owned. it takes a bit of getting used to but it is fantastic, and I could only see this incarnation as being better due to bigger processor and screen.

looking forward to checking it out in the flesh.
#18
Would have thought this would be hotter rated than this.. I cannot wait to get the phone, loved the HD and this promises to be a damn sight better.
#19
you can get this phone on a contract costing £552 in total and included unlimited web.

On 12 months 150min 150txt + unlimited web for £29.36pcm and £192 for the phone.

On same tariff, the Hero can be £444 for the contract

Thats not a bad deal if you're good at remembering to cancel at the right time! I need minutes otherwise I'd have gone for it

Yeah, there is often little gems of deals about if you look beyond the 'free' phone and go for true cost of contract - its how I only buy mobiles anymore (after being stung a couple of times). But I would be better with 200 mins and 200 texts. I want the Hero actually and guesstimated a good deal with web included would be under £500 and the fact that I can get it for £444 is a good deal for me.

But if I put it up here it would go cold cus the auto cold voters don't look at the full picture and thus why this deal is only at 51 degrees currently.

errr - 52 degrees actually

Its a shame because a lot of the cold voters probably have absolutely no idea what they are voting on. And a lot of people only view the "hot deals" in which case they can miss out on some very good ones.

Seconded. A lot of people who vote cold havent even got a clue what features this phone has got. After reading about 7 reviews from various websites, I must say it is probably the best phone this year.
#25
Just got my PAC code from three and ordered this, coming on tuesday, cant wait.
#26
Neither hot nor cold...

18 months ago I got 600 minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited internet and the HTC Diamond for free at £25pm
Would expect the Touch HD2 should be a similar price, not £35pm

Also, having had Windows Mobile for the last 2 phones I'm looking forward to moving to Android or iPhone (this from a MS fanboy btw)
#27
Got my touch pro 2 on that deal a few months back all good, i like a physical keyboard otherwise would have waited for this.

Hot as you just cant get close to this deal with anyone else?

Yeah it's definitely the best phone I've owned..and I've owned a Nokia 3210 and a phone with one of those that you put your fingers in the number hole and turn the circle around and it makes a purring noise.

Come to think of it the Nokia 3210 crashed less..

And my cat purred more when I put my...

WinMo is not the future though. I would prefer android platform.

I've had HTC phones for nearly 7 years now and will buy the HD2 soon.

The standard software normally sucks but if you go on xda-developers.com you'll find lot of hacked roms that will make the phone much more usable.

HTC are also doing a good job with the user interface. The new HTC Sense is lovely.

Heat and rep added, thanks very much.

Clearly, and it's a shame this phone wasn't android based.

That said, HTC have done a very good job in overhauling WM with their Sense interface. It feels nothing like WM which is a good thing.

The screen is beautiful and thanks to the 1ghz processor, it's very fast.

WM may not be ideal, but this is easily the best phone out there now. It's also nice to know that no little kids will have it :cough: iphone :cough:
#33
This looks like a cracking deal... If I'd seen this back in May, I would've gone for it!

More than happy with my HTC Magic though :)
#34
Price same as iphone 3gs.... might aswell get an iphone. no phone can beat an iphone!

i have owned various HTC/WM phones over the last decade.
I must say compared to the likes of the iphone they are absolutely useless.
Crashing, freezing, errors, - you spend more time troubleshooting and googling how to solve, tweak, fix the various probs that you get with it, so much so that it takes away the joy of using the phone. The HD2 no doubt in terms of hardware spec kills phones like the iphone, however its not all about the specs. HTC can make a device with a 2ghz cpu, 1gb ram, 12mp camera, 20gb hard-drive, but if it's going to have WM on it, i would rather go for a nokia banana phone.
I would advise to stay away from this phone and not be brainwashed by the cool specification.
Maybe wait for WM7 and see what that brings.

My HD1 is dual booting Android/WM6.5, it won't be long before the HD2 can too.

I have been using WM since 2003, and whilst it has never been the smoothest ride, the sheer customisability IF you are of the geeky sort is brilliant.

I've currently got a Touch Pro2 running a WM6.5 ROM, and it is great, and I have no doubt the HD2 is even better!

It's a shame I'm only 3 months in to my 18 month contract, I want this new phone!

Well that's a lie... HD2 is a better phone, name me something the iPhone can do that this phone can't.
Cos I can tell you a couple of things the iPhone can't do off the top of my head that this can... Multitasking - iPhone can only run one program/one app at a time whereas the HTC HD2 can run upto 30 (the CPU is smart enough to recognise some programs are dormant and the processor is 1ghz anyway).
Full HTML & Flash - HD2, well the internet is like that you use on your laptop, you go onto BBC News website for example and have videos playing within the browser.
Free MyPhone - Microsoft have a free service where you can back up the contents of your handset wirelessly to an online server (syncs automatically). If you lose your phone, when you log into a new handset all the information comes flooding back, whether it be video, images, contacts, calendar, text messages, you name it. The nearest thing to that on the iPhone is MobileMe which is £60 for the year.
Then you have issues where people say That this is an iPhone copy, or Apple invented apps. Usually uneducated fanboys... Apple never invented the touchscreen and the likes of HP have been banging out on their computers for ages. Apple never invented the app, there are 8 times more apps available for a windows based device than an iPhone - you just have to browse the internet. Just because Apple put them in the App Store doesn't mean they invented the concept of an app. Windows Phones now have Marketplace.
I owned the original iPhone - all I have to say is, boring. You have to have it Apple's way. The HTC HD2 is the people in the know's choice of phone... epic ftw.
