Why oh why would HTC release a brand new phone with Android 2.1 when 2.2 will be available by the release date of this? :?

Don`t think they do part exchange :-D
#4
it;s upgradeable
#5
unlocked doesn't mean they work on 3 do they?
#6
does this have a flash?

While this phone is good am put off that they are using a 320x240 screen. While I dont expect a 800x480 screen that the desire has I expected them to use the 480x320 screen as used on the HTC HD mini. That would have IMO the best budget smartphone and probably would have only cost HTC a few dollars more.

So while a good price HTC has let us down so not voting either way.

The Sense UI wasn't working with 2.2 (when the device first came out). Apparently they have fixed this though :)

QVGA is still a standard resolution though, it means they can have a more budget system, maintain decent battery life and still have power :)

No reason why it wouldnt work with 3.
It has 3g / HSDPA 3 only block phones that only pick up a 2g signal

If only I'd held on a few months longer I could have got this, instead I got a Tattoo for £190 (still a great phone but this is better for an extra £40)...I've also just managed to wreck the screen on my Tattoo on Friday, so the touch functionality has stopped working, no doubt that will be made expensive to fix :(
#12
This is fantastic hot deal. At this price everyone should have one (unless you've got an Apple iPhone of course!)

/ducks
#13
It seems to be available for similar price at other places too....Amazon, Handtec...
#14
I was about to buy a nokia 5230. Now im not so sure, this looks insane. I want one. But the price is still quite high compared to the nokia (£80). Worth the wait? Thoughts anyone...

Things like a better resolution screen, more RAM, larger screen, better quality screen, faster processor just to name some, but for the price the Wildfire is outstanding, I'd buy one right now if I didn't recently purchase a Tattoo.

This link might help you some..

Just incase anyone makes the mistake, the image that's linked here on HUKD it's the HTC Smart not the HTC Wildfire.

Good price but if you rely on OS upgrades I wouldn’t bother with HTC as I have a Hero HTC on Android 1.5 and have been waiting for over 6 months for the Android 2.1 and as the Americans have the upgrade Android 2.1 already there are a lot of complaints about this new version running on the phone and a lot want to downgrade back to the Android 1.5 because of this. Also a few other HTC owners have said that this has happened before with other phones that they have had.

So to me sounds like there business isn’t running up to bog standards as there has been a lot of complaints about the upgrades and have let a lot of Hero HTC owners down because of this .

I got rid of my 3GS iphone for a HTC Desire , i find it far superior in every aspect . Im not a rabid fanboy and will happily switch to whichever phone i like best as I have absolutely no brand loyalty . I wish people could just say there both amazing pieces of kit and be happy its becoming like the Spectrum v Commodore , 360 v PS3 .
Its as if people want to justify splashing out on the latest overpriced (i admit!) Apple gadget , they get so touchy about either another phone or even god forbid someone else making a cheaper tablet PC .

Of course it's not, it's not aimed to 'kill' the iPhone :whistling: It's an entry level smartphone.

Isn't £229 the RRP? I would love to have this phone but the crappy 320x240 resolution is dire, even for an entry-level phone. It's half that of the Legend and about a quarter of the Desire's resolution. Camera and processor are pretty good.

P.S. The picture is of the HTC Smart, not the Wildfire.

I really do want this phone but have the simplicity tariff that was on here a few months ago on O2. So went into the store yesterday and asked them when the htc wildfire was coming out to o2....the reply..."never heard of it...is it due to come out this year?" FFS...you work in a phone shop!

Cost cuts have to come from somewhere, namely hardware, this is a great phone for an entry level smartphone.
#35
Would the lower resolution make a big difference?

See if any phone store near you will let you demo one.

Many review sites say sometimes text looks blocky and it's impossible to read a webpage without a LOT of zooming in first. 320x240 is OK for say a 2.5" iPod screen, but at 3.2" it just makes everything look odd and really cramped given the widgets and icons you'll be using with Android.

I understand that but the screen is arguably the most important part of the phone and the thing you are going to be staring at for everything. Maybe if they got rid of the optical trackpad which you don't really need anyway they could have afford to use a better screen. But hey, I'm not HTC so what I say in that respect doesn't make a difference :)

It'll mean some apps won't work too as well on top of what blizzard7 said about web browsing etc.

I upgraded the wife's HTC Hero from 1.5 to 2.1 just last week. I used the ROM created by the guys at VillainROM, they release hotfixes for everything using an Android updater. If you need a hand DM me.

Thanks mate I have read about the different types of ROMs you can use and how to apply them, but they still have a few bugs (from forums read). So was going to wait for the 2.1 Android but sounds like they have more bugs than the ROMs created (from the Hero Sprint).
