Good price. Wish it wasn't VERY though.

What does internet access cost on this?

This has just become a much better deal. Last week thw Vodafone Wildfires were upgraded to Android 2.2- this is an automatic update even if the phone is shipped with Android 2.1,

The big difference is that 2.2 allows FREE tethering by setting up a Hotspot around your phone.

If you get a freebie sim for £10 a month top up you'll get 500MB internet access as well as 300 texts per month. OK that means not that many minutes of speech, but it's good for a light user who wants tethering on the odd occasion and, for me the most important, needs the reliability of the Vodafone network.
#4
Head added. Any ideas how much to get this unlocked?
#5
Looks good but the Very site wont let me log in oO

Not bad. Not bad at all. The resolution on this phone isn't great, but it's good enough for me.

I actually went for a contract deal:
24 months at £15 a month, £80 instant cashback, total cost £280 over two years
or
£129 for phone, 8% cashback, £10 per month sim, total cost £358 over two years

But you can get quite a lot of minutes (up to 500?) on the best sim only deals.
#7
Better off with Orange San Francisco. Similar kinda phone. £50 cheaper than this
#8
I'm just gonna say this once, ok:

Wildfire: Better Camera, Tethering
San Francisco: BETTER EVERYTHING ELSE

The resoloution on the wildfire is so low some apps can't even run on it.

great phone

in response to Gregool, I used a fella on ebay to do the unlocking and he was very quick with doing it.... cost around £18-20 IIRC

If you're already on a vodafone contract or someone you know is, I believe you can get it unlocked for free

Love this phone!! I got one from Argos for £129.99 and it's brilliant. I only really use it for viewing emails and facebook so not bothered about screen resolutions etc.

i think ALL wildfires on any network are 130 @ phones 4 u

tesco or giffgaff (both o2) offer 300 minutes + unlimited texts + unlimited data for a tenner rolling 30 day contract

great little smart phone, why spend silly money on iphones? get a wildfire and a holiday ;)

I tried to get one at Phones 4U yesterday but it was out of stock so I just ordered this one for my wife now - couldn't get the 10% off to work though even though I opened a credit account.

Can the San Francisco be made to work on Vodafone network or is it an Orange only device

Can the San Francisco be made to work on Vodafone network or is it an Orange only device

This is one of the easiest phones to unlock and it's free - all the info you need is here - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/322848/free-sim-unlock-codes-for-orange-san-francisco-and-zte-blade/

I've just picked up the SF myself and for the price it's pretty good. The processor isn't the fastest for an Android device but is perfect for most apps unless you are a heavy gamer.

how long does delivery take it says delivery by 19th but i need it way sooner than that!
Delivery will cost £3.95

Agreed - love mines since got it 29/12. I'm addicted to it even lol

Tried this and the San Francisco, and much preferred the SF. But I think they no longer use OLED screens on the SF? Which is one of the things that made it so great.

Anyway, the Wildfire has been £130 or less for months, so not sure what's so great about this deal. They should have dropped it by another £10-20 by now...

Why would you vote it cold if you thought it was a good enough deal to post it yourself?? People voted this hot maybe because currently this is the best deal for the phone. Voted Hot!!!

SF has a higher spec. processor than the Wildfire (600MHz v. 528MHz).

Also, head over to Modaco and follow the instructions to install either the junk free 2.1 build, or the 2.2 build (2.2 was still buggy when I tried a while back, but they may have sorted it by now).
I noticed a big difference in performance when I installed the clean 2.1 build. It's not the CPU that makes the SF sluggish, it's all the crap Orange stick on it.

Can anyone tell me if the camera is really bad on the SF? I want a decent camera and I won't use video recording so is the camera issue really enough to put me off buying a SF?

Thanks

I've had the San Fran for over three months and would have to agree that the camera is pretty poo. It would appear that much of the problem is caused by the protective cover for the camera lens. Remove that and the camera is not so bad. Realistically that's not an option for daily use so consider the camera to be a bit crap.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't personally choose the Wildfire over the San Fran if it cost £10. That low resolution screen is a complete deal breaker for me. I'm completely happy with my San Fran, especially for the £80 it cost me. Unlocked and used with giffgaff my monthly running costs are better than nil. I've only spent £20 in total in top ups since last May and to date have earned payback of £60. My current balance is £36, which is not bad after 8 months of service, with internet. I still have a further £35 in Payback yet to be credited to me.

Good luck with that, spent hours trying to install it but gace up in the end.
What I think are clear instruction and the people on there do are two different things.

Yes, but I've only read that - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/319972/barnacle-wifi-tether/#entry1435579 - not tried it. When you upgrade to 2.2, it comes with the OS.

I've never messed around with any phone OS's before, so with no previous experience I was prepared for the worst.
This took me 10 minutes to install the root kit and the custom firmware...

Think the problem may be you, not the instructions. Seemed easy as pie to me.

I can't see this anywhere cheaper but can see it a lot more expensive all over the place so I'm voting hot and I think I will buy it. But before that, could anyone confirm if the San Fran' has GPS?

The San Fran does have GPS and it works well. I now use it in the car to replace an old TomTom system and also to track my walks in the countryside.
