Went to my local Currys PCW superstore, which has a phones 4 u. Wife needed an upgrade, and found this little beauty going for £129 when bought with top up. Make sure to ask for the band d, which is unlocked to all networks, as she has a Virgin sim, but assistant advised for that version. If paying by cash, you'll need to buy £20 worth of top up.

For this price, it's a blooming bargin! :D

Not quite. The sales clerk registers the sim card on the selected network, along with the top up to repel the bulk resellers.

Can't see this anywhere for this price at the moment, besides here. Can you?

got this for my daughter last week, deal has been on the go for a while

Will not vote. I believe however that the Orange San Francisco, which can be unlocked very easily, is a much better deal at £89. Use it and loved it.

Agreed. I got my wife an OSF for Christmas, free to unlock, installed a ROM from Modaco. It is a super phone for the money. The camera is not up to much but she has a digital camera so it doesn't matter, the rest of the phone is spot on.

i posted a few weeks ago from phones 4u at 129.99

you need to ask for a prepay upgrade and have your sim card with you to buy without top-up, as the assistant now has to make a connection call from your sim.

ask for a GSM handset not a band D handset.

The Wildfire v San Francisco is a very old battle and it has boiled down to the fact that you do have to pay a little more to get quality.

I can't seem to find this deal on their website. When I click the "go to deal" link it just takes me to an image of the phone.

If its genuine then it seem like a good deal. The cheapest I have seen it for is £140 on Vodafone PAYG in store.

I wouldn't want the white version though I'd prefer the black.

When I go directly to the Phones 4 U site I don't see any info on this deal anywhere???

What is GSM and what is the difference between that and Band D?

not on the website, in store only. had a choice of white or brown

Instore only for this one. Remember to ask for band d. Nothing wrong with the white one, but was the only one they had left.

I think the title gives it away. In store only. The pic shows white. Good description. Heat added.

got this phone it's good and worth this price but i do have a bit of a gripe with the screen resolution it's not great. if this is the max your budget can go to i'd hold on if you can for something with a little better screen.
#18
apart from build quality, the orange san fran is a better phone. free unlock codes as well.

No it doesnt.

GSM stands for Global System for Mobile Communications which is what all phones use, locked or unlocked.

What your needing to ask for is just an unlocked handset. No band D or GSM.

Good deal for the unlocked version though.

Isn't the Wildfire a higher quality, and smaller in a cute sort of way?
And doesn't the wildfire get official 2.2 Froyo?
#23
The Orange San Francisco laughs at the HTC Wildfire.

can the top up be used on old sim?

i would prefer this over the san fran anyday. yes san fran is cheaper, bigger screen and has better screen resolution. but what i like with a phone is crystal clear phone calls and long lasting battery life which htc is superior with. also my friends san fran's power button just came off lol its pretty cheap casing. wildfire also has special features like silenting a call buy just flipping over the phone and lift it to dim the tone.

end of the day i would like to bust out with a goodlooking wildfire than a budget looking san fran too.

Edited By: dibee7j on Jan 23, 2011 04:11: just adding abit more

They have the wildfire advertised for £130 instore at phones 4 u in Liverpool City Center. When i went to buy one, they told me they are only available for contract customers, what a con.

Walked over to the CPW opposite where they were £180. However, they priced match P4U who offer price match policy subject to the other store having them in stock.

They never checked and i course i told them Phones 4U had them in stock which technically they had. 5 mins i later walked out with one for £130 plus £10 vodaphone top up. If paying in cash, they wanted £20 top up. The phone was unlocked on PAYG, the assistant said they all are.

The wildfire has been 130 with top up for a while. I was waiting for the price to drop more but finally took the plunge. My first smart phone and it is superb, like a kid again on xmas day with a new toy

Works well with my £10 monthly tesco sim (500 mins unlimited text,500mb internet). It also comes with 2 year warranty. As with buying any phone, check the seals on the box and look inside before you walk away.

For any doubters out there rest assured, the wildfire is worth the money, its been quantum leap in technology for me

As long as the Wildfire is unlocked you can upgrade to 2.2. If locked to a network you have to wait for the network to release the update. I have an unlocked one and upgraded to 2.2 back in December. Much better, significantly you can install apps on the SD card as thw internal memory gets full very quickly.
#27
do not like this phone.

if you want a phone looks very good, you can choose many others for the 129.99.

if you want to use android system, this phone screen is totally rubbish(240X320).

i use htc desire, and then OSF, OSF quite good, just less then 100. screen(800X480), you can play many games.

If you put your contract sim in you still have to pay for the top up.

Yep.
#30
build quality better than the OSF but the SF has a much much better screen and seeing as you'll be staring at it every day I would and did go for the OSF in the end. Please believe me when I say I'm not fanboying the OSF just because I have one- I spent a very long time with both phones before I made my choice.

Actually this phone was well in the lead for a long time as the demonstrator for the San Francisco has the really really horrible orange interface on it. But then a friend showed me his modaco -updated one and that swung it immediately for me. The SF happily runs video and can be modded so very easily with the help of modaco. The screen is something to wow people. The only downside being the plasticky case - the wildfire is much better.

just got my wife this phone from Tesco's, ive got to say its a nice little phone and worth the money. i can compare it to the desire hd as i use one and the screen is nothing compared to that but in general day to day operations its a great phone.
works well and is very nice and smooth in its loading of apps etc and the sound quality of phone calls is top notch ;)

You're right, can be unlocked easily and has a great screen. Is a slower device than the wildfire but the screen is much better!

My sister got this offer a few weeks ago.
Shes on contract but just wanted the phone without the top up.
She gave a staff member an o2 number and then they didn't charge her for the £10 top up! The handset was also unlocked :)
#34
I had this phone, I sold it quickly, the screen is utterly shat. Saying that it's a good price for the rest of the spec.

Regarding the OSF I just can't tolerate the ugliness of it

Well if you really do you will know that GSM is a mobile standard which 80% of the worlds phones work on and does not mean its unlocked.

Been after this phone for ages at £129 its a bargin but all the phones4u i go to never have them in stock or sold out online they asking £179 which is bit too much i reckon.

None in stock in the Harrogate branch. Sure this deal will resurface somewhere else soon

Been trying to get this for ages for my GF. It was supposed to be an Xmas present so I've been under a bit of pressure to find one somewhere! Been calling / visiting local branches 3 times a week for the last month with no luck.

Finally managed to grab one yesterday from Phones4U. It was supposed to be a Vodafone contract phone but it was unlocked, and was the white one (the one she wanted). It took a bit of persuading to get the guy in the shop to sell it to me.

She's happy, I'm happy. As stated elsewhere, the screen isn't brilliant but as her first step into touchscreen/smartphone ownership it looks great, feels solid and has a decent camera with a flash (which was the reason why I'd never go for a SanFran).

Paid £140 for the phone + £15 Vodafone sim only contract (which I've already cancelled and put her O2 sim in). So £155 in total. Not the best deal but I don't particularly care. It was worth paying a bit more to have it now and to see the smile on her face. Oh and the peace and quiet I'll now have without the constant "where's my present?" questions!

LOL what we do for the wives and gfs eh? I gave my wife my old Bold, but it began giving up the ghost... of course, I was the one who had to deal with it. I've got the Desire, and she wanted something like that, but smaller. What can I say, the Wildfire was the obvious choice, so happened to go to Currys with P4U to enquire, and thought the price fit quite well too! (Which is quite a surprise)

I preferred the HTC brand over the Orange San Fran value Android phone, as looks cute, it's not filled with Orange's rip off bloatware, and couldn't be bothered to have to unlock and root it and void the warrant for her. The screen may be small, but it's like a lite version of my phone so she's happy, and so am I... and I got £75 for the Bold in the end too!
