HTC Wildfire SIM Free £180.00 In Store @ Phones4u

HTC Wildfire £180 SIM Free - saw this at the Staines Phones4U store, there didn't seem to be a catch - checked the price with staff & it was definately £180.

Seems to be £230 everywhere else.....so seemed a good deal to me if you don't wanna sign up for a long contract.

As I said saw this is the Staines branch - presume it is nationwide.

Heck of a good price for new handset.

I walked past CPW only this morning and looked at this for my daughter and they wanted £299 for it !!!
#2
i have this phone, really good phone easy to use
#3
Good phone. Bit of a poor screen, but enough if you just use internet etc casually. Good phone apart from that. Fiancee has one at £8ish a month on orange for 300mins,500mb internet and unlt texts.
#4
I agree, great phone. Can get free on some of the cash back deals if you look on this site
#5
can't find tht online...
#6
this is unlocked right ?

read some reviews, screen res and battery life seem to be main concerns - any owners got any comments on these ?

I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now. I was concerned with the screen before I purchased, looked at it in a shop and was still unsure - but having used it for 3 weeks I'm perfectly happy with it - i'd say the screen is a little behind the iPod touch for quality but not a million miles off. Its more than adequate for internet browsing and youtube etc - perhaps less so if you're going to spend hours on end watching video on it.

The main concerns in the reviews are comparing it to much higher range handsets like the desire - a pointless exercise in my opinion given the huge price difference. IMO the Wildfire is a good compromise.
#12
In my opinion the wildfire is going to get cheaper & cheaper as new deals come out....as has already been mentioned the screen res is not the best so the reviews are slating the phone, so expect to see this cheaper in the coming months...just my opinion.......

Screen is great, and everything else about the phone is excellent.
The only downsides that i've found so far is that the camera is pish, despite it having 5mp.
And the screen may be a bit small for some people.
For the battery, well i have it constantly connected on WiFi/Mobile network, and use apps on it/browse the webs/check emails etc very often per day and it uses about half the battery a day.
So you get a lot out of it, just depends on what you use it for really.

I have a Nokia Xpress Music 5800 currently. Looks like I can get about £73 trading it in after cashback and recorded delivery.

Do you think this is a worthy upgrade for £100 ish? I like the fact it has a compass, very useful.
#15
Having this phone for a few weeks now, coming from an old S-E this thing is amazing. I'm sure that if you're used to the high end phones like the Desire, Iphone 4/3gs etc, the Wildfire won't be anything great.

I found it for her through mobiles.co.uk on Orange. It's a 2yr contract but thinking if it works out and she wants a diff phone 18 momnths into it she can always buy it and use the sim from thsi. Also £50 if that happens to work out. Just done it yesterday so wold like to think that Quidco would have updated their site so the ones who can't pay out now would be shown :)

This deal will save me money, I'm goin to get this phone for my gf's birthday And cheapest I found it was £230ish unlocked
#18
Being a Desire owner I can say the screen on these is pants! But the desire costs double the money...
#19
I'm really hoping this is Nationwide. Excellent price for a phone this well specced.
#20
I have become a big fan of phones4u recently
They are usually the cheapest and most (not all) of their phones are unlocked
#21
Would have been a good phone if it would have had a better screen resolution!

What do you expect for £180?
#23
It is a great phone even with the screen taken into account. Web pages auto resize so the text is extremely legible when zoomed in. The only annoyance is that a few Android apps do not work on this phone, possible due to the low screen resolution. But it wouldn't take a lot of effort to enable them to work on the Wildfire. For instance Evernote and TFL journey planner do not work. There are many alternatives to these though. And support will most likely come in the future.

That's a shame, because TFL Journey Planner is beyond brilliant. Saves so much time and effort

Just been to Phones 4 U shop - confirmed price as £179.99. Phone locked to Vodaphone. No stock.

Went next door to 3 - just to check a working phone - looks good but could not use internet. They told me about a so called "special offer" - Free Wildfire, 500 mins, 5000 text, 1Gb internet, £20 for 24 months. Did not bite did not like fact it was 3 and 24 months.

Just phoned 5 stores here in Northern Ireland and none of them have heard of the sim free deal. They are selling them locked to Vodafone.

I don't see why this is getting so hot, since not one person has got the deal or even confirmation of it.
#31
Great phone if you are not a desire or iphone owner
I upped from the 5530 and it's way better - if you want a cheaper phone its excellent
Not sure what people see as wrong with the screen - i can play you tube stuff and looks perfect and ok for the sort of idiotic games i play like abduction lol
#32
So are there any good sim only deals to go with this. I'd be looking for something like 100 mins, 300 txts and unlimited data.
#33
that guy is either a business customer or talking rubbish as 12 month contracts are no exixtant nowadays

I take it you cannot back this up then? I want to be proved wrong, however your silence states otherwise.

Anyone car to compare this to the Hero?

Better/worse deal?

Bear in mind you can get android 2.1 on the hero now....

The Wildfire comes with 2.1 on too, as for comparing, the screen is better on the Hero and pretty much everything else is better on the Wildfire albeit some things only marginally. I should add this comparison is based on stock ROMs e.g. standard 2.1 with no overclocking etc.

Another sub-educated halfwit makes a wild stab in the dark.

Do a search on my posts, and you'll find the answer.

And, based on the posts questioning my credibility ... that's the only help you'll get from me.
