Hi all, went for a weekend in Southampton for anniversary.

Went into phones 4 u and bought a HTC Wildfire for £179.99 sim free. Even the sales person did not know why it was cheaper then buying on pay as you go. Which he said was £259.99 on orange pay as you go.

Being sim free it updates direct from HTC, put in the £10 sim from tesco with 500min, unlimited text and web.

I went in on saturday and was offered the handset at £180 with a £15 monthly contract with 3. didn't realise the handset on it's own would be £179, may go for that and the £10 monthly contract with 100 mins, 3000 text and internet.

Went in on suday (26th) and saw this, when i asked about it, i was told it was a misprint.

No chance mate just called 2 stores near me and they don't do the wildfire sim free.

LOL...not this nonsense again?

Check out the previous misleading exercise they carried a few months ago. EXACT SAME!
http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/htc-wildfire-sim-free-180-in-store-/726085?page=4

A few months ago I'd say it would have been worth it if Phones4U hadnt been misleading people to get them in to their stores when they actually were NOT stocking the sim free units for PAYG at £179.99.

Now they arent even worth that. I'd say they are only worth around £140 brand new.

I have previously heard that this lot were a bunch of rip off's who have no idea about customer service.
I can see now from the 2 post here that they are the original high street cowboy's.

Hi all,

I phoned 2 stores and they new nothing of this deal.
I can see you did buy one but how can anyone else get one?
Already someone else has posted they have tried without success to get one.
Sorry not a deal for me as you can't buy this now.
Don't understand why the mods have unexpired when 2 people on this thread have tried but can't get this deal.

Thought this had been posted before so didn't post it myself. Picked one of these up for my wife last weekend. Can confirm £179 sim free, they said the payg model was £80 more!!

Was the white edition which was exclusive to them.

Ok here is my saga. Just saw this deal about 30 mins ago... (12ish)
Needed a replacement handset for my sister who dropped her contract wildfire in a puddle.

Great 2 phones 4 u stores in Swindon. Bound to get one...

1st store (Near the old Envy store).
On display. PAYG cost £250+ top up blah blah
On Contract display. Free with selected contracts, upto £300 instant cash back etc etc.
"Sim Free Price £179.99"

Great lets get one.
Rep: "Oh you want just the handset then you need to buy PAYG"
Me: "No I want sim free and you are advertising as such"
Rep: "Yes thats a guide price for insurance purposes"
Me: "No you are advertising it for sale"
Rep goes away and talks to manager
Rep: "You can buy it for £179.99 but you need to take 30 day rolling contract with it"
Me: "No that defeats the object of 'Sim Free Price'. It is sim free and that is what I would like"
Manager: "No you can look on our website they stock sim free phones, we don't sell them"
Me - Whips out Blackberry and goes to phones 4 u site to prove they don't sell sim free
Manager: "Oh, well we cannot sell it is for insurance guidelines only"
Me "Why advertise it for sale then sim free? Surely Trading Standards would have something to say about that"
Manager "We don't have any in stock anyway"
Me: "Okay thank you"

5mins later I walk to the other phones 4 u store (near vodaphone store).

Me: "Hi I would like to Wildfire sim free, and I see you have it advertised at £179.99"
Rep: "Where?"
Me I show rep.
Rep: "Oh yes thats on our website only"
Me: No that's in store here hence why you are advertising it.
Rep goes off to check website
Rep to Manager "The website don't sell sim free any more?"
Manager to Rep "The website never did sell sim free"
Me: "You have it advertised here"
Manager "okay give me a few minutes"
Manager goes to back to store, and is using phone (txt, email or similar but not voice call).
I am only one in store, with 3 reps + manager.
1 customer comes in and starts talking about 3g dongles

Few minutes later, manager goes to talk to Rep + 1 other rep.

Manager and Rep come over to me.

Rep: "We have 1 in stock, but have another customer here who maybe buying it"
Other customer looks around to see he and I are only customers in store.
Other Customer: "No I don't want a phone, let him have it, I only want a 3g dongle"

Rep goes red in the face.
Manager goes to stock room and returns with White box, new, sealed HTC Wildfire.

Manager: "Here you go sir, we don't normally sell sim free, but on this occasion we will, and it is our last one!"
Me: "Thank you"
Rep: "That will be £179.99 please"
Rep to Manager: "It shows 2 here, not 1"
Manager: "Yes I know"

Pays, and leaves.

See receipt below.

Bottom line is it seems they will do anything to get out of selling phones sim free, even though they are advertising such sales.
Stick to your guns, don't get angry or start an argument, and you should get one (stock permitting).

Nice one, well done for giving them hell over this because I've been into several stores and they deny all knowledge of this deal when it's printed right there on the display in black and white.

Might try again but I really don't like the look of the white one and I've never seen a grey/brown one in any of my local stores.

In store. Go look at contract phone section. Find wildfire and go through the spec sheet and prices etc. It has sim free price listed. All their contract phones do.
