this could be expensive, compared to the phones4u deals if you want it unlocked / debranded

my understanding is that HTC phones are not so easy to unlock - c£20 -s makes it not such a good deal

that is assuming its locked - but direct from voda I would guess it is

This is going to come under fire from the San Francisco crowd so I'll hop in first. I've played with both these handsets and IMO the SF's superior screen makes it a no brainer for me. HAVING SAID THAT, the build quality of the HTC is in a different league which is obviously more important for some people. This is still cheap for this product and its getting heat from me!
#4
Well said jaybear88. It's true though, unless you really want that HTC logo/design in your pocket then the San Fran is far superior in just about every way, plus unlockable / rootable for free of course.
#5
Are the current batch of San Frans still rootable and unlockable?

Ive got the SF what i think is great its unlocked but i cant download pics when someone sends me them with txt, does anyone know how i can do it please. Oh i love the SF

Your not connected to wifi when they send them are you? try disabling the wifi if you have not tried that.

Check your MMS settings. If someone texts you a picture, sound clip or something like that - it's a multimedia message (MMS) and you need to have the phone set up correctly to receive them.

Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks

Can someone advise where to purchase the SF?

Orange want you to top up £20 on top of £94.99, play.com WERE the best but now it's £148.99 for some weird reason.

Moby Repairs charged me £10 to unlock this phone

Good price, however I had one of these and couldn't put up with the poor screen, but for £120 you can expect to have everything.

Phone is crap.

Your better of with ZTE Blade aka Orange Sanfransico for less than £100!

Yep, went out a month ago, my wife bought the SF, I bought the WF. I am after a month in pleased with the WF, it's a log better than the SF. WIFI for example, very repliable on the WF, not the SF. screen size for an andriod phone the WF wins.
suspended#20
Resolution is supposed to be poor on the WF.
#21
I had this phone on paygo for a while and its ok until you compare it with other phones such as the SF. The screen on the SF blows this out of the water.
#22
My GF has this phone. I think its suitable for someone as a starter phone if you want to dip your toe into the smartphone world.

But in practice, I find the phone painfully slow and we're looking to upgrade to something faster after only a few months.

The more demanding games won't work and the screen is too small to type messages on comfortably for any length of time.

what network are you on? its the mms settings
#24
Wait for the Wildfire S, the resolution is 2x on that one.
#25
Another happy San Fran owner here - I've seen Wildfires, and they are better in terms of build quality, flash support and camera. But the SF is sooo much better - better screen (size and res), processor, onboard memory, and free to unlock.

I had upgraded to 2.2, but last week made the jump to 2.3.3 (CyanogenMod 7).

This thread seems completely hijacked by SF users now, but there is something about larger MMS sizes in the CM7 settings - yet to try it out though.

I had upgraded to 2.2, but last week made the jump to 2.3.3 (CyanogenMod 7).

Is it worth doing, any noticeable difference?

Also can I keep all my contacts/apps etc if I change to 2.3.3?

I too love the SF. I don't know why someone would buy this inferior phone for more money.
#27
the WF sucks, even if they give me one for free, I will not take it! ooops, well, I will take it, but I will give it to my dog so he can follow my instruction getting the sheep moving through the valley, baaaaaaaaaaaa :p now we are going to specsavers :{

dean_brfc - we've completely hijacked this thread, eh? ;)

In my case, yes. I think I've got better signal over the 2.2 modaco rom I was using, the data speed has gone from '3G' to 'H', there is proper HID support for bluetooth (nothing else has worked) and the little bells and whistles you get with 2.3 are there.

Note though - I've upgraded from a Gen1 phone. All future upgrades to CM7 must be Gen2, so if you have an older Gen1 (like I do) these need to be 'upgraded' to Gen2 first. Modaco have all the details - hope this helps
#29
Have had the wildfire and while it is better than the Nokia E63 I had before it is slow and I've now upgraded to the desire. Wouldn't buy this if you intend to play games, browse etc
#30
The screen res is quite poor but if you are upgrading from something that's ancient (SE W810i for me haha) then it's more than adequate :) For me the build quality is more important than the screen res

I've had this phone for 6 months on Vodafone it did give me grief, though the 2 years warranty sorted it. Mine came unlocked from vodaphone. Pretty sure vodafone unlock for free anyway, otherwise i'd be happy to get it unlocked for a few people through pm

I got the wife the Desire which is fantastic, then the teenager got one of these... just looking at the low res screen hurt my eyes or my brain, can't work out which... Please see one in real life before buying in my opinion, I personally wouldn't use one of these purely due to the screen.

The wildfire S however looks a lot better at least on paper (same res as the SF if I recall correctly)

The Wildfires a great little phone with solid build quality,5MP camera with flash, good battery life and a decent phone for music all of the things the SF does badly.
