Will this be PAYG only a bit like the Orange SF, or can we expect some good contract deals to go with it?

Struggling to get excited about this one........appears not to have a front camera either.

Ok then, be honest, have you ever used a front camera?

I don't know anybody that has...

This phone will be getting an ICS update later this year - HOT!
Yes, although caution is necessary as manufacturers can break their promises. However, there will doubtless be third-party ROMs as mentioned above.

Video calling is the only possible use. And video calling never seemed to take off.

Vodafone have it exclusively for 3 months I believe, so presumably there won't be any other deals on it until that expires. Unless you really can't afford ~£115 upfront, just unlock it and use with Tesco Mobile/Giff-Gaff, etc.

Yes because for two reasons. 1) It eats up too much of your data, thats if you can get a reliable 3G signal. 2) Free public WI-FI hotspots use alternative packet data transfer to stop people streaming so you cant video call.

So pretty much the only place to use it is at home and most people have a web cam with their laptop/desktop so why use your phone.

But 3G video calls don't eat your data allowance , they are paid for separately just like voice call are.

I've used the front camera many times for Skype.

Good reasons, but also that I think a lot of people find it doesn't have much appeal. And the person at the other end needs a video phone/laptop too!

Currently in Colombia, and tomorrow is am off to the amazing country called PANAMA.
I have used video calling via tango app almost everyday with family back in UK

depending on your needs but video calling front and rear camera phone is a must if you travelling
#53
This looks really interesting. Think I'll just wait until the unlock situation clears a bit, but very interested indeed. Cheers OP, and the others who've chipped in with technical stuff.

Yeah - if you can afford the extortionate data costs!

I also have the san fran and its been a cracking phone, this looks good and almost ordered. Of course it is no good unless it can be unlocked for me anyway. Need a bigger screen and this could be the one. I am eagerly waiting news on the unlock situation.

Already explained on this thread (I even gave a link) that it can be unlocked for about £15, and someone else managed to get Voda to unlock it for free.

Sadly the guy at the side of the road selling what you hope is fried chicken is unlikely to have wi-fi available.

Also a tip, don't go flashing you fancy smartphone around in Colombia because on a good day you will get pick pocketed for it and on a bad day a gun in your face will make you hand it over without a second thought.

So my advice on phones is take a couple of cheapo Nokia's.

Thinking of signing up to a SIM only deal with Vodafone. This might be a silly (blonde) question, but would this SIM then work in this phone even tho it's sup to be PAYG?
#66
I can prob unlock the phone for a £10 through huwaei most of thier phones cost that much to unlock

Yes. Phones are locked to particular networks, not the type of contract.

Ooh interesting - please let us know how to do it if you manage.

I know somebody has already stated but are you sure that this is Adobe Flash compatible? Cause I already have the OSF and am happy with it apart from the lack of Flash support. So if anyone can clarify 100% I would be grateful. I have rewardz points saved (over 3000) so I will claim a £30 voucher and get the phone for £70. Just a tip in case anyone doesn't realize this is possible.
Cheers

Oh an additional, I bought one of those £59 Huwei smartphones a little while ago for a friend and they were sim free out of the box. Maybe these will be.
#71
Had my OSF since day of release back in sept 2010 (I think) It's been an absolute beauty of a phone made even better with the ROM upgrade from modaco, but it's looking very tired now (cracked screen) and the poor camera preformance is always a pain. So I think you guys have just found my new phone. HOT HOT HOT thank you.

JUst got a reply from this eBayer confirming they can give you an unlock code for the ascend g300 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180853168205&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123#ht_753wt_911
So it looks like you can get it unlocked for £7.25 and who knows, maybe cheaper when more sellers join the party.

no such thing on 3 pay as you go. for 15£ they give you 300mins, 3k texts and a wooping 80Gb allowance (at aprox 256kb/s on good signal). on their 'all-in-one 15' package. they call their internet allowance 'all you can eat' but if you scroll down it says 80GB.

ive also used their internet on my PC for downloads like torrents and stuff. worked wonderfully. but the will boot you off their network if you get caught

Will be interested to see if that's the case with this phone.

The reviewer in this review says it flies in bbc iplayer which runs on flash. Good enough for me :)

Just took the plunge and ordered this, been a San Fran user for along time now, was getting annoyed with the 3g speed using internet and wanting a bit bigger screen, this Huawei has alot to live up to though to me!

looks good but may try to hold out for the huawei Ascend P1 (due out this month) and see if it's pricing is in line with the other Huawei phones (ie. Cheap for what you get :D )

Anyone know the date of release for the P1 ?
