My gf tried this phone out for a while and the features are good but the ringtones even on max volume are pretty quiet. If you're regularly in a noisy environment like the tube and don't carry it in your pocket so you could feel the vibration you might find yourself getting a little annoyed with it.

The volume issue is a firmware bug install 885 or later and the volume is fine. Also turn off the increasing volume option on the ringtone the default is on so the ring starts very quietly. Disable and it will ring loud from the get go. So to fix 1) Install 885 firmware from Vodafone 2) Disable the increasing ringtone option.

BTW unlock is £5 from cellunlocker pro on ebay.
Cases £2.99 from China or £6.99 in the UK
Software and ROMS free from Modaco allow you to debrand and add new features.

Please can someone provide the link to the vodafone website where the firmware fix for the volume is - cannot find it. Does it definitley work?

Thanks

The issue with the low volume of sounds and incoming calls has now been resolved with an over the air update. If you have not yet updated your Ascend G300 you should have had or soon have a notification to download this update. To see if you have been sent this notification press the captive button on the bottom left of the phone, choose 'notifications' in the popup box and follow the instructions. Make sure your phone is connected to WiFi. This update will take about a minute to install

Is this the black version of the phone?

due to the top of the phone and curve around the bottom also being silver im guessing this is possibly not the black version lol but the colour isn't stated on play.com

Has anyone upgraded to this from the original Orange San Francisco (ZTE Blade)? Is it worth it?

My brother has one of these Huawei G300's and I've owned an original ZTE Blade OLED phone for a long time. Having used his phone I have to say it is well worth the upgrade which is why I'm keen on getting one. But only the black version of the phone since it looks less tackier than the white one.

Yup. Unqualified statements all over the shop. Not many phones carrying a 1ghz processor at that price point. And I've played around with it, very swift - poor camera aside, you're getting a lot of phone for your money.

On a side note the kernel for this phone has been released by Huawei so expect overclocking and better custom roms soon with ICS still yet to come. Not that you'll really need to overclock because it's quick enough as it is for most things. Great potential for a phone under £100.

These will not be selling for £100 sim free after the exclusivity period. They'll probably be more like £150/200. Vodafone subsidise the sales in order to tempt you to the network.

Why bother securing a 3 month exclusive period if you are going to sell the thing for half the price of your rivals as well? That makes no sense.

i think this was a marketing idea to draw people to the phone and also to get new customers to the vodafone network then after their exclusive period is up its possible that vodaphone will also up their price to match other retailers and their rivals sort of like just a thing to draw people in at this price..

i have one - good enough phone let down by at times (often enough to be annoying) insensitive screen and also absolutely terrible camera - get a T-Mobile Vivacity or the Xperia Mini instead - will be listing on Ebay as soon as the unlocking exceutable is publicly leaked (I hope)

Got a brand new vivacity if your looking for a swap? Save you losing cash on ebay. If you want to go ahead may a sale thread and drop me a link to it.

Me and my Bro both had Blades, and he just upgraded to the Ascend, and he loves it. I tried it and whilst I'm still happy with my Blade, it certainly seems like a big step forward. The big screen is very nice, and having a flash and decent camera are both very useful too.

I got this from vadafone for the same price with 5 quid topcashback last week. Would say that's a better deal than this surely?

Forget powers of comprehension, folk like pink_2012 really lower the quality of offers being posted on hukd. Add some lukewarm nonsense not based on anything to do with fact or reality and pass it off as an offer to gain what ? Scorn from the likes of me ?? Total waste of time. So cold, I've got icicles on my crown jewels.
How can you comment on the quality of deals when you yourself have..........

You know you can be helpful and polite at the same time instead of moaning and derogative.
Then maybe people would listen to you.

It may not be as its after the 3month voda exclusive period..
The 3 months exclusive means that Vodaphone will be the only company with these handsets for 3 months. Vodafone WILL LOCK the PAYG G300 and these are loaded with Vodafone software. THESE WILL BE LOCKED TO VODAFONE.
i got my g300 from a Vodafone SHOP a week ago and it did come with Voda's software, but the phone was UNLOCKED!!!i guess the term "lucky for some" applies to me :):)

Same here mine was unlocked too!

Don't have one but the newest rom (B888) should have fixed the low volume issue.
The B888 is NOT an official ROM, and if you install it and have to return it later on for some reason (and because of the build quality chances are it will go wrong) the warranty will be void! So be aware. No, you cannot go back from B888 to earlier official ROM's.
