Hi everyone, if You don't fancy signing up for a long contract you can now buy the usb modem for £39.99. If you go through quidco £11 back. Sorry I put it under 3 accessories but I can't find the THREE mobile from the options...
I ordered one to be delivered next saturday. I think it's a good idea to have as a back up in case any problems with your main internet connection. At this price can't go wrong!
Also this modem works with linux no problems and as I have an Asus EEE it's seems the ideal choice. I also believe they can be unlocked through a software online.

I wouldn't bank on any Quidco from Three. Its been mentioned many times now... they just dont wanna pay out.

My own 3 broadband modem purchase was declined as not tracked - even though it appeared on Quidco within an hour or so of the purchase.

So if you are banking on the refund on this purchase, I'd recemmend you reconsider.

That's strange....About 3 months ago we bought a 6 months contract from three website (nokia 6120). We have just received £32.50, which we should be paid next month by quidco.....Also when I placed the order it tracked the £11 and is now showing as TRACKED.

I found this company that charges 15 Euros to unlock http://www.dc-unlocker.com/buy
Also there is some information on the net about unlocking for free, BUT IF YOU WANT TO USE THIS IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK:

I upgraded the dashboard and firmware on my E220 (both stored on the modem itself) when I first bought it (from 3), it does not unlock the modem.

You shouldn’t include Quidco in the price anyway regardless of how reliable it is for a particular retailer; it’s show as 98% tracked for Three.

I bought one of these with 1GB per month for £5 a month over 18 months and Quidco was paid at £37.50 so it came to £52.50 all in for the 18 month period.

can these be used abroad with your laptop ????

Hi, certanly. I go to Italy very often and I normally use n95 on three pay as you go. I can buy £10 and surf up to 1gb and that saves me a lot of money...That is because in Italy there is 3 as well and because the phone uses a 3 network I don't pay for roaming at all (as long as I use 3). So it would be the same if I use the modem I believe. If you go in other countries though you need to put into account that it won't be cheap. In that case you could get modem unlocked and then buy a local sim, depending obviously if it's worth buying....

Australia too if you take up a mobile broadband contract instead of PAYG.

By the way I recommend installing the alternate dashboard as the one 3 includes is dire.

It was a lot higher back in April when the half price deals started. Quidco was even higher for the 7GB tariff as we well - £80. http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/169805/3-mobile-broandband-half-price-for-/

where you get the new dashboard from btw?

Anyone any more information on unlocking? Would be nice to use my o2 sim because it has unlimited surfing.

I got mine from play.com for the same price last week and I am currently using it now to type this out in Weymouth.

After much consideration I have signed up for an 18 month contract with Three having tested out the modems instore first.

Went through Quidco for cashback and also got half price 5gb per month for £7.50 and free E160G modem - this can also be unlocked to all networks and can have the firmware updated to work with 7.2mb connections [where available] so it's pretty much a bargain all in.

Question - does the SIM that goes into these modems a special 'mobile broadband sim' ? My current 3 SIM has data allowance under the X-series add on. Can i unplug the sim and put it into one of these dongles?

Yes, but you may need to topup and buy a mobile broadband add-on. I doubt it though, your x-series silver (hope you're not using gold it's a ripoff) is open on all ports, unlike the identically priced internet max product.
Another option is to see whether your phone can operate as a USB Modem. The majority of phones can, but not at HSDPA speeds, that's the part you need to check.

You need a 3 data enabled sim to use the usb modem - I believe this is different to the standard 3 sims.

Also, depending on what allowance you have on your phone data usage you might run up a hefty bill - Data on mobile phones is compressed and it doesn't use a lot to access the internet and email, but with a USB modem it eats the data just the same as on a normal broadband or dial up connection.

So (for example) 200mb of data allowance on a mobile phone could last all month, but if used with a USB modem you'll probably run out of data allowance within a day.

The modems are not really designed to be used with a phone contract sim.

I keep my fingers crossed on this purchase....In July we got a 6120 and we just received £37.50 in our account today. Not bad for a 6 months contract.....

Worked fine, my dongle is now unlocked - no reason why it shouldn't work for other 3 E220 dongles past and present :).

Thanks I am going to try this too. By the way I just received the dongle. Inside there is also a £10 voucher to buy a phone at £39.99 or above from a 3 shop. So if you need another dongle for family member you can just pop in a shop and get it at £29.99.
