Just an update. Received mine today. Phoned EE to give my 30 days notice! Downloaded DC unlocker software and successfully unlocked (cost 6 euro) now working on 3 network too!

As already said, if your hoping to use this, kind of silly given the 3Gb allowance. Why would EE even put such an allowance on a 4g bundle?
I get it's a good price for the device but what would be it's use at current? Can you get unlimited 4g tariffs elsewhere? Im curious.

the EE speed is crap and if you can get 150mbp the 3gb will fly out in now time! useless :(

Mike, this is about a cheap way to buy the unit on the basis that it can be unlocked; not the service it is provided with (that is throw away)

    That's excellent news!!!!

How were EE and the 30 days notice? Did you do it all over the phone?

so, you just pop in a sim like Threes ultimate internet plans and you can use it as a wireless router?

if so sounds excellent. would Three recognise the sim as being tethered?

    Please note!

This is a 30 days monthly contract, and Quidco is very likely to take longer than that to be validated.

    Dont' count on the cashback!

Long wait to get through (20 minutes) the nice man asked why I wanted to cancel so soon. I simply replied that I only wanted to use it for 30 days. So he said ok, final bill will be with you by X. Easy. All done on the phone.

Would you be using a 3 mobile broadband sim. (This would be fine) or would you be trying to use one of their phone sims (this would not be ok)

I can't speak for this model, but Three recognise several of their own-brand MiFi devices and dongles when you insert a phone SIM with Unlimited data. I'm on the One Plan and get a big fat "no" screen when I try to connect.

However, some devices (such as my 3G Chromebook) work fine. Might be worth a shot. Although I'm fully expecting them to notice and disconnect me sooner or later.

Why is this better than the old 4G mifi device?

The arrival of the CAT4 mobile Wi-Fi device will allow you to take "full advantage" of EE's super-fast network.

Its the first next-generation 4G device. So Not only will you super-fast 4G speeds today, but you'll also benefit from an even greater speed when EE double the speeds on their network, which will be rolling out this summer.

So you are future proofing yourself somewhat.

I was thinking phone sim. Three seem to have the best deals for data plans

Where can I get the Ferrari from?

We got one and blew the 3GB allowance in two days due to Dropbox syncing. Be careful

Am I right in thinking the 4G tariffs are effectively capped? The T&Cs seem to imply that the data will just stop and you'll have to buy more.

    8GB tariff could be useful...

Three are pretty hot at detecting tethering on standard tariff sims, usually resulting in a tethering blocked screen and being unable to surf anywhere until its put back in a phone. Obviously they have to have some form of detection or nobody would buy the higher priced one plan tariff's!

Some people profess to have got away with it for occasional - very light use, but I wouldn't gamble on it
