  I bought one from Tesco Mobile in store a couple of weeks ago, it was locked to Vodafone and I didn't have to buy it with a topup. You can get the unlock codes from Ebay for £5.
  
  A bargain of a phone and for this price you really won't find better.

  We've got 3 of them in the house - hubby prefers his to his company iPhone 4s. Cheap Ebay to unlock. Big screen, Android, good battery life. Stick a GiffGaff sim in and away you go.

  There is Ice Cream Sandwich ICS for this phone (Andriod 4) and the bootloader is unlockable for free (not the same as a phone unlock) this is £5 off ebay. The phone ships with Gingerbread. Lots of custom ROMS etc great value really fast phone. ICS really make the phone a very slick device. The stock Gingerbread is also very good. Jellybean (Andriod 4.01) is planned this year.
  
  The updates from Vodafone are a few month behind the manufactuer, I don't wait for the Vodafone updates I install the updates free from Modaco.http://www.modaco.com/forum/650-huawei-ascend-g300-g300modacocom/
  
  I used mine on Orange unlocked free in a local Vodaphone store. Vodafone seem not so keen to unlock these for free anymore. I went into the SAME store asked the SAME sales rep and was told "we never unlock these phones for free" -??? So got the unlocks from eBay..

  Would this be much of an upgrade from an Orange SanFran one? What's the camera like - quality, speed? (It would be hard to be worse than the OSF though!)

  Yes a big step up the battery life I get with all the bits turned on (Wifi, GPS, 3G etc) is 2 days I could only one day and one night off the SF. The phone is really fast and snappy compare to the SF1, SF2 and the Slate (Monte Carlo) I had all of these. Also it has a bigger screen (a bit smaller than the Skate) but it is Gorrila glass so it is easy to clean.
  
  The skate needed constant cleaning, SF not so bad but needed a screen cover. The G300 is easy to clean and no need for a cover if you are careful.
  
  Best entry level Andriod phone by far
  
  1 Faster CPU arm7 vs Arm6 (so iplayer etc works!)
  2 Memory 1g Vs 512mb (from memory might be worht checking)
  3 Bigger screen (I had the older OLED SF1 and this is a better screen IMHO)
  4 Better software: Gingerbread and ICS today both offical. Cyanogen mod in progress)
  5 Bootloader for ICS is unlockable for free (SF has no locked BL)
  6 Jellybean due this year
  7 Loudspeaker on this is amazing for audio playback with ICS
  8 Battery life better - get 2 days
  9 Gorilla glass

  Only ever seen white ones. There are great silicone cases for these in black that cover all the white except the tiny bit around the UBS port. These are £2.99 delivered on ebay
