So a phone that retails at £450 which you bought for £200 doesn't look as good as a phone that retails for £640.

    Who would have thought it

After a couple of days with my p9, I really like the phone, its size, weight, camera, battery life and fingerprint scanner are the reason I bought this and are everything I hoped they would be.

my last two handsets were LG G3 and G4 so I'm used to a good camera and the p9 is no disappointment so far.

There are a couple of niggles that I thought I'd ask for help with (or at least warn others who are waiting for the deal to become available again / undecided):

    1. the status bar at the top is smaller than I'm used to. displaying the icons for notifications doesn't work well for me - eg a new email icon shows a tiny picture of the sender's face, rather than a Gmail logo.

    2. notification led doesn't seem to be controllable - ie, its just a flashing green light, you can't choose different colours for different apps.

    3. No double tap to wake the screen. I'm getting used to pressing the power button, but I still wish it was available. (I mostly used this feature when the phone is on my desk rather than in my hand, pressing the power button or fingerprint to switch on is more fiddly)

    4. the settings menu is more difficult to navigate than the LG menus I'm used to.

    5. I don't seem able to configure badges on the homescreen icons - eg. to show new texts in the Messenger app. I'm guessing this is because there is no app drawer and homescreen icons are normally widgets or shortcuts in other phones?

    6. lock screen notifications seem a bit chaotic with default settings - all sorts of things are popping up. but irritatingly they seen to override the do not disturb setting. this means that the screen lights up in the middle of the night with a google now card telling me the weather is changing or something equally useless. I'm sure this is just a another granular setting I haven't found yet....

if anyone knows how to solve these I'd appreciate it.

on the plus side, my daughter was desperate for an Honor 8 handset. it arrived yesterday, and whilst its very beautiful (and slippery!) it seems to be the exact same phone, just costs £150 more than this deal on PAYG.

Great deal, thanks again to the OP and everyone who posts when it comes back into stock.

    1. Unfortunately, I don't think these can be changed.

    2. Try a third-party app for this: Light Manager - LED Settings or Light Flow Lite

    3. Again, try a third-party app for this: KnockOn. Don't know why they removed this feature to be honest, as my P8 has it - possibly with addition of the Fingerprint scanner, which my P8 doesn't have.

    4. Yes, I think you're right there! There is a search function though, which helps a bit.

    5. Do what TelicVet suggests for this one.

    6. Go into Settings > Notification panel and status bar > Notification Manager & change them in Notification centre - each one will need to be done individually.

Let us know what you tried & what worked, etc as it will help others too.

I'm not sure if anybody is still following this post, but here goes anyway...

I have just updated my phone using an app from the play store called firmware finder.

I was on B182 after a recent update but that was still android 6.

I used the app to update via the proxy 8080 proxy port option (the last option on the screen in the app).

I updated to 378 full ota (2+gb one), and then updated it to the latest approved verison which is B391.

I just went to my wifi option in settings, then long held on the wifi network i an on. then went to modify settings, then proxy, then chose manual, then entered "localhost" without the "in proxy hostname, and 8080 in proxy port. then pressed accept and then went to the check for updates option in the phones settings as usual. It found the new update ie 378, and then 391. Then i went back to the wifi settings and removed the proxy, went back to update screen in settings and downloaded the update and the phone did the rest.

Didn't lose anything and works a charm.

i did watch some youtube vids as and prior to doing it.

If you do this, do some reading via google searches on firmware finder instructions you should find everything you need.

i felt comfortable updating this way as its from huwaei, its official and doesnt involve any tech stuff.

    hth.

i read this page to help too.

Right to clear up the confusion and stop people spouting straight BS.

Fast charging is a "standard". Its just one particular method of charging a phone fast. Quick Charging by Huawei is another "standard". They are 2 separate methods of doing the same thing. So no traditional fast chargers do not work with the P9 due to it using the Hisilicon chips (the P9 does not use snapdragon chips etc) specific method.

You need a Huawei 9V/2A 5V/2A Hisilicon quick charger. Any other fast charger won't work because it's not compatible.

Additionally, those that have mentioned it are completely correct that you need the correct 2amp cable. Yes believe it or not with USB-c cables the type of cable is very important. A lot of the cheap cables on the market will draw too much power as the manufacturers applied the old cable standards and just installed USB-c ports at the end as opposed to using a cable with correct resistance. This is last part about the cables is applicable to all USB-C phones and not just with Huawei. Be careful.

Now about the Pink colour. O2 do in fact send out the grey version but if you angle the device at the light there is a slight pinkish/purplish hue. It is not the pink version so don't worry about it.

    3% battery drain over night.

That's good, but if you choose 'Ultra battery' or similar (from the dropdown shortcuts menu), you can get this down to 0-1% most likely (works on my P8). Can still receive/send calls & texts in this mode, so I use it in the day as well when not going to use the phone for a while.

And it only takes a single touch & a few secs to return from the displayed Ultra battery settings/screen to standard settings & full phone functionality.
