If you are "new" to The Human League, then the ones to get (IMO) are: -
1) Dare (essential in any music fans collection. One of the albums of the 80's (if not THE album)
2) Reproduction (early Human League album. different, harder synth sound. Being Boiled (fast) is awesome)
3)Love and Dancing (great remix of Dare)
4)Travelogue (another great early album, and the definitive Being Boiled)
5)Original Remixes (12" versions of Sound of the Crowd and Open Your Heart make it worth it. And did I mention "Being Bolied"?

The other two are good. Hysteria, is the "not quite as succesful as they would've hoped" follow up to Dare. Some good tracks, but not a patch on Dare. And The Best Of, is , well a best of, but misses some amazing tracks. Did I get round to mentioning "Being Bolied"?.......................Listen to the voice of Buddah, saying stop your sericulture...........

Really can't afford to spend any money but am SOOO tempted to buy Reproduction and Love and Dancing, to replace the old vinyl ones..... eek decisions decisions lol

For those who have never heard it, The Human League's version of 'You've lost that lovin' feelin'" on Reproduction is just AWESOME, put on the stereo headphones , turn up the bass, and dim the lights.

This was vinyl though, don't know if it will have the same 'deepness' on CD!

I know what you mean about vinyl. I'm still in the process of replacing my vinyl collection into CD, whilst the rest of the world is changing their CD collection into mp3:p You can't beat vinyl though. Nothing like coming home on the bus oodling your latest purchase as a teenager. CD's don't have that giddy effect. And mp3's? Nothing to oodle at:x Regarding sound quality...CD wins, just, ahead of vinyl, but a million miles ahead of mp3. However, I will not be replacing some of my 60's albums (most are not available on CD for a start); purely because the deepness of them cannot be replicated on CD. But, when you get to 80's synth etc, I think the CD sound adds to the overall experience.

"Dare" was the first CD I bought! Back when they used to do a relatively unmolested copy of the studio tapes. Unfortunately in recent years, they have added audio compression (not the same as digital compression) to make them sound "louder", which totally kills the dynamic range of CD. I must stress, I don't know whether these are 'original' CDs or compressed. Voted hot because anyone that cares about popular music should have these in their collection.

To be honest, I would be more inclined to convert a vinyl collection to 24-bit FLAC Andy :)

Voted cold - Got mine free with the Sunday Mail last year!

Agreed-lond time since I've played it though-might have to listen to it later.:)

If you are listening to the contemporary electro sound that is around at the moment then Reproduction and Travelogue are excellent choices for discovering new old stuff!!

My favourite Human League albums-most of the songs have stood the test of time I think-still lovin' 'A crow and a baby' and 'Empire State Human'.

Heat and rep.

No you didn't. The Sunday Mail DID NOT give away the entire Human League, backcatalogue for free last year.:p
What you meant to say was "I got a paper sleeve copy of "Dare"; but I am a Sunday Mail reader and am therefore the type of person who would vote thisdeal cold.":whistling:

Travelogue - for the space-age Dignity of Labour (pts 1-4). Like some pre-techno techno and very unlike the later, 'pop' League.

Met Martin Rushent once too - nice bloke, likes a swear and full of great anecdotes (i.e. the lead for Fascination ws played on a Roland GR guitar synth, hence it sounding strange and in/out of tune).

I would suggest users get Heaven 17's Penthouse and Pavement and the Luxury Gap for 3.99 each. Both these albums are far better than all albums by the Human League.

So COLD

Only joking (kind off) heat and rep added

Hmmmm..never dabbled with early League stuff, but I hear its meant to be far less commercial than Dare era onwards.

Go on; give it a go; get either of the two early albums. Well worth the £3.50 ish (with the discounts)

How could so much be said above without mentioning Dreams of Leaving on Travelogue! Fantastic...
#16
I loved them and Love and Dancing was my absolute fave album of the 80s. But do you remember how badly Suzanne Sully and Joanne Catherall danced?
#17
'Reproduction' is a fine piece of electro post-punk minimalism.

I bought this 'Dare' album in the early 80s and played it to death.... it is sooo of its time and a landmark album.
I couldn't listen to this 80's electro, new romantic stuff nowadays though.

Good price though so hot from me.

jo callis was in the dare human league now hes back in the rezillos (saw them last year he hasnt changed much lol)

Funny that their biggest hit is probably the weakest track on Dare. Sound of the Crowd is my fave....a must have album.

I grew up with this stuff. I still remember seeing them on TOTP performing Sound of the Crowd and it blew my ~15 year old mind. I quickly got their old albums and they are definitely non commercial, but defining moments in electronic music. Between the HL and Gary Numan this kind of stuff still influences my musical tastes.

A lot of these albums are also available for download on the Amazon MP3 service for £3.98, and several have additional tracks.

The TOTP performance of Sound of the Crowd is on the best of DVD (along with other TOTP performances and a Sound of the Crowd & The Stars are Going Out on Later with jools Holland)

Well worth another £6.99 of your hard earned cash:
