Just noticed this instore off to currys to do price match liverpool store plenty stock.

FREE 2 year guarantee at JL & Humax 2 year warranty.

Easily managed to get Currys to price match and they knocked £93.49 off their price resulting in a superb price of only £191.50. Was about to buy this last night off Amazon for £243 glad I never.

JL price is for new stock and they had plenty, why they have reduced it so much I dont know as no one around to price match at £199.

Receipt for currys below

yup they do. john lewis in watford price matched a £600 tv down to £450 with john lewis in manchester. john lewis in manchester were £150 cheaper than standard because they were price matching with another local retailer!

It may be just an ex-display. Are you sure it is still sealed in the box for £199?

Many Thanks CavernCity. After receiving marching orders from my son in Scotland, one hour ago I went into Currys, Church Street, Liverpool clutching my mobile showing your price of £191.50. The first assistant I spoke to said "sorry mate they're £284.99". I showed him the screen saying you had just bought one for £191.50. One of the other assistants piped up that the manager had rung head office and it was Ok to sell them at that price matching John Lewis plus pricematch discount.
I handed over my £191.50 and received a new boxed Humax from the storeroom. Thanks again, particulary from my son

i find this all quite odd that companies will knock of 90 quid on just say so and internet chatter, am I wrong to be dubious
#12
I dont think it is just internet chatter MR. John Lewis always check that other stores actually have the goods in stock and available before they will price match. They obviously did this with a local retailer. Similary Currys contact the quoted retailer, in this case John Lewis, before they price match and give an additional %.
The fact that people quote that they have seen it on the net doesn't proove anything but obviously in my case Curry's remembered they had already checked when Caverncity had bought his earlier.

I was a click away from buying this for £234 and I thought I'd have a final look on hotukdeals and found this thread.

Phoned John Lewis Watford and they said the price is £249 online and in-store and they don't have any in-store.

Told them that a friend bought it from Liverpool for £199 and they said they'll be more than happy to investigate but if they don't have any in stock it'd be a waste of time. They gave me the Liverpool branch number and told me they would deliver any in-store goods for free but using parcel force (5-7 days).

I phoned Liverpool branch, a nice lady answered the phone, it took her a while to find the item but finally she confirmed they have it in-store for £199. I bought one over the phone and it'll be delivered for free to Luton.

So, if all fails with Currys, you can phone John Lewis Liverpool and get it delivered to your door for £199. The number I called is 01517 097070 if it helps anyone.

Thanks very much, heat and rep added.

Which tele did they price match ?
#18
...You can watch one channel while recording another or record two at the same time...

Does this mean that the sat/dish has to have two receivers like the sky+ ones?

Yes, Dual-LNB (or better) equipped sat dish is required, with two coax feeds to the Humax box needed.

An existing Sky+ installation will do the job. Which is what we inherited in our current house.

These are excellent STBs - best on the market.

Indeed it does and you will get a better quality picture from the Humax and it's HD.
#22
Will have to wait for HD Freeview in the new year before I buy a new digibox.
There's only one coax feed from the communal dish.
#23
we also have a communcal SAT dish into our flat.

any way of testing its been connected and the line is ACTIVE before buying the box?

will need to check its got two feeds..

Highly unlikely that you will have 2 feeds on a communal satellite system.
#26
Is everyone feeling OK today? We've managed to get through nearly two pages of a thread regarding a deal from a shop in Liverpool without anyone resorting to calling us thieves yet! ;-)
#27
I have had one of these since November 2008, brilliant piece of kit. Iplayer is coming to freesat soon via update to firmware

It can record 2 channels at once and sometimes watch a 3rd

You need a dual or quad lnb and dish to get most from it although it will work with 1 lnb but wont have two channels

It will alos work in none freesat mode in options but wont record when doing so

Only small drawback is 320gb had drive really isnt a lot although passable. HD does eat into HD space you can upgrade it bt voids your warranty
#28
leaves for john lewis's.... oh its only 40 yards away from my work.

Proper Bargain

Once these get to around £150, my Sky HD box is going on Ebay.
#30
Can someone explain to a dense guy like me how this interfaces with the Sky cables?

I've got a Sky+ 160 box going into my plasma (via scart :( ). if I bought this I'd presumably re-route the two coax cables going into the Sky+ box into this making it obsolete?

How would I watch the premium Sky channels that require my viewing card?
#31
thanks just what ive been looking for just phoned liverpool nice girl said plenty in stock only live over the water so picking it up tomorrow thanks again

With luck, you would be able to put a splitter and 2 cables on the end of each of the dish cables and then connect both the $ky box and the Humax. As I understand things, there is no alternative, other than a 4 port LNB and cables, as only a $ky box will read and decode a $ky viewing card.

You can't view your Sky channels with this box. You would need 2 feeds for your Sky and 2 feeds for the freesat HD. It is just upgraded freeview with some HD channels.

You would take your sky+ out unless you have a quad LNB with four cables.

This wont work, it is not the same as an aerial.

A pair of splitters should do the job as you would only be using the split feeds to feed one box at a time, with the other boxed switched off. Not as good a solution as a 4 port LNB but, hey, any splitter in a storm! :)

Have read on the AV Forums that the SD picture quality is suspect on Freesat, lower bitrates or something. Can anyone with eyes on experience tell me how this compares to normal Freeview in terms of SD pq (don't have a HD tv yet). Also is there enough HD content on Freesat to warrant getting one?

Cheers

Excellent deal nice box

Just a pity its not quite as flexible as a Dreambox though ;-)

Personally, I am just in the process of knocking $ky and satellite on the head and am waiting for the Humax Freeview+HD box to arrive early in the New Year as I am not interested in ANY of the $ky premium channels. All I really want/need is HD on Freeview and that will start to go live on the 2nd December but there will be no boxes until next year and I can't imagine that the Humax Freeview HD box will be anything but excellent.

Many Thanx wanted to pay £200 for this and phoned Cardiff JL who were happy to prices match and also
