Not a bad price. I recently bought an equivalent Samsung SMT-S7800 for the same price, as the Humax was £40 more. I'm pleased with the Samsung, can't fault it. Apparently compares to the Humax, which is considered the bench-mark.

Currently a compatibility issue (not recording) with Humax Freesat+ recorders and Freesat Olympic channels, which is unlikely to be resolved in the next few weeks. Only the additional Olympic channels affected though.

Actually, they reckon it'll be sorted early next week...

Thanks purchased. You can get this model recondition from Humax direct for £179.99 plus delivery. I figured buying brand new with the 2 year warranty as standard from Humax for a bit extra was worth it.

Best price this has been on Amazon, as far as I am aware.

    Heat added.

Still too damn expensive. When are these going to come down to a reasonable price?

Great box for the cost of four months sub to sky with the movies! Ive got one in the spare room which I use when doing the ironing. Id use it as the main box bu the other half won't get rid of sky. It is a bit fiddly at fist but once you get used to it, its a breeze to use! Money well spent. Its also v easy to upgrade the box to 1tb!

I am going to change from Virgin to this - does anyone think it is worth spending £50 extra to upgrade to 1K ? I have two small children so we could keep more films but does it slow the box down at all? sorry to be so ignorant! thanks

The 1TB wont slow the box down. It will take a tad longer to show the media files list when it's nearly full. I upgraded my 320G box to 1TB two years ago (4 screws 5 minutes job)and use the original drive in a caddy to keep archived material = total 1.3gb of storeage space.

Unless you really want a sports/movie subscription save yourself £500+ each and every year for the rest of your life and ditch that overpriced $ky subscription and spend the money on a holiday!

Ive got a problem with is box, when changing from an SD channel to HD channel the volume changes massively. There is a beta firmware to fix this apparently. Don't expect much firmware support when you buy this, apart from that it's a decent box, just that problem is hugely annoying.

What a nice bonus. If only there were such a feature to filter out Olympic content entirely.

I was also thinking of dumping the virgin media tv box and go freesat. Although I will miss the tv catch up that virgin media supply for free. What catch up services are available with the humax box? and what is the quality like?

Why are freesat recorders generally 2 to 3 times the price of freeview ones?

This hasn't really dropped in price for a while now, it's been hovering at around £200 when on offer. Still, hot enough I guess.

catch up for freesat? I don't think there will be any. Freesat is just like freeview, but with lots more channels. Then there's freesat from sky which has a few more still, but not Dave :(.

Thought that these boxes could receive bbci player and itv catch up and possibly a few others? perhaps I have been misinformed?

You're right they can, ITV Player isn't live yet I don't think but you can use it via a combination of button presses while they're beta testing it. Definitely has iplayer fucntionality. You obviously need a network connection...

All worked fine for me throughout :p

Great box, although my first one did fail but Comet replaced it quickly. Comet do (or did do) a dish installation for £99 when I bought it and there service was very good.
