#4

I bought one from Amazon this week £209.99 new delivered with 2 years warranty. That one is grade A with 1 year warranty.

this is the one I bought, looks the same spec

There are a few other posts on here recently on the new ones

Someone posted a price compare site too (its the 320gb one)

Loving the twin tuner, record 2 channels at once, or record one, watch another. Just tried bbc iplayer beta through it (you plug it into your broadband hub), works a treat. Only downside so far that I've found is you dont get fiver and fiver usa channels compared to freeview. There was a review on amazon where someone had upgraded the hard drive to 2TB, not sure how easy/true it was.

Hope this helps.

Can this basically do what a Hauppauge HD PVR do ?
#7
Sky Plus HD without the fees (or, admittedly, content).

Good idea if you are fed up with funding Murdoch's plans to rule the world.
#8
You can also copy files off via USB

Install a much bigger HD and the hard drive content isn't encrypted so you can copy the TS files off by conntecting the hard drive up to your home computer (uses linux format)

Replacing HD is easy, get new larger HD (SATA) and connect up, turn on and let the box sort itself out, easy!

Yeah, I did that and after 5 weeks I'm back with Sky and this is going on Ebay. They did offer me a years free Skysports sub though to come back.
The EPG on Sky is far superior, been used to it for years and couldn't get on with this at all. You can work your way round it but clunky and too many piddly little buttons.

Top bit of kit , only drawback is , i cant watch `Dave` or `Fiver` but can live with that.

Very clever piece of kit and a BARGAIN for this money , wasnt long ago this was £300 in comet !!
#11
Don't think you can stuff Sky after buying this as you will have no Sky sports HD and some ITV HD channels only appear on pay TV!

I should get one of these.
Then people can ask me "What's the Foxsat?" :D

The hardware is great, we just need more people to support the freesat platform and then the conent will be there. More people means more ad revenue which will amount to more than the bribes sky are currently paying to channel 4, ITV and five for elements of their services.

ITV player coming to freesat this Autumn.

Been using mine for a few months now. Great piece of kit. The EPG maybe a little slow, but you get used to it. This is not for people who like watching sky sports, as you can't receive it on here. You do get BBC HD and ITV HD as well as iplayer. A lot cheaper than paying sky for 300 channels you never watch.

No Dave and Fiver is the only reason i'm put off by Freesat! Superior to Freeview HD in everyway except a few free channels not there grrrr!
#17
Hi folks, I know it isn't an exact science, but do you think this will drop more/stay the same price/go back up/go OOS by Christmas?
#18
I have this and the new humax fox t2 hdr the freeview hd version and have to say that is impressive it's a bit pricey but it's the bees knees with a tv portal update coming in October this will outsell the freesat version once everyone can get freeview hd I am close to crystal palace which has is already and am impressed but the foxsat is still a great machine but you only get the two hd channels as opposed to freeview you get 3 channel 4 hd also !!!!

For people who have both Freesat HD and Freeview HD, is there any discernable difference in picture/audio quality?

The reason I ask is that I got a Freesat HD box when they first came out and PQ seemed fine on the HD stuff [SD was very soft]. However now, compared to my Humax Freeview box [not HD as it's not here until 2012] I actually get a much better picture quality - not only in sharpness, but also colour and contrast etc.

So, is satellite still as crap as it ever was and can I look forward to Freeview HD being the superior format?
#20
I'm sure I read freesat broadcasts were of a better quality than freeview and that freeview had limited space for new channels due to the technology. Also satellite is better if you live out in the sticks and don't get great reception from an aerial.
I think it still remains to be seen which format is going to win out over the long term. I think freesat have better tech but seem to be struggling to get the content there.

Disagree on the EPG front, that's partly the reason I'm fed up with Sky.

I have a universal remote so the buttons on the remote I've got make no difference to me. The main thing overall though is that I've not had any picture break-up AT ALL on this Humax box, using the same dual LNB connections as going to the Sky box, which for some channels was getting completely unwatchable, despite system reboots, resets etc. using the engineer options and so on.

Plus, this has an ethernet port in the back, clearly this is going to become a networkable video streaming device with a future firmware update. No way in the world is a Sky box ever going to do that for you.

3.5"

I have a 2 TB HD on the way to go into this.

Is there an output so I can send the signal to the splitter in my loft and hence to the other tv's in the house??
#28
I've gone for one too. My F-I-L bought one from Comet (£229) and I installed it yesterday for him. Very impressed.
#29
Careful guys with the 1.5-2 Tb HDD's - it isn't a case of drop and play. They have to be formatted correctly on Linux or they won't work. just type in 2 tb upgrade foxsat hdr and there will be lots of info. If someone does find it easy, let me know! I might have a bash. I have a 1 TB in at the mo - works like a dream!

You can use it for a motorised system or two dishes with the correct switching.
