Don't forget the installation costs if you don't already have a dish. I'd rather wait for Freeview HD

I'd be quite happy to fit a dish and buy a Freesat PVR but even at £237 it still seems too expensive. Also do the Freesat development group - or whatever they are called - make it hard to add non-freesat channels onto the channel list? I'm not bothered about on-screen programme info but I would be annoyed if I had to change menus to select a Non-Freesat channel. Anyone got one of these boxes who can enlighten me?

Yes it has two modes that you can swap between: Freesat and non-Freesat. Has 2 timer recorders for Freesat but only manual recording of non-Freesat AND it won't be recording Freesat material while you are watching non-Freesat. So it isn't a perfect box for people who want to do more than minor non-Freesat viewing. Maybe fixed in software in the future but don't hold your breath. If buying this buy it with a view to HD recording x 2 on Freesat. Look at other products if you want timed recordings "non-Freesat" (remembering that the Freesat channels will still be there on the satellite but without the Freesat EPG).

Thanks for your helpful reply. It's sounds pretty much like I was expecting and in my mind £237 is too much for something with, for want of another word, "features" that constrict the way you can use it. I speak as a Humax 9200T owner and that had huge annoyances which took yonks to fix. The last update was 2007 and that never fixed all the silly little irritations in the system. That box has been great in many respects but the way Humax seem to go about firmware revisions puts me off buying another one of their products.

I was hoping to buy one of these when they came out a while back.

By the way its a very good price so I've voted hot.

The reason I haven't bought one yet is that there seems to be a lot of bugs with this machine (seem mainly to do with failed recordings) and customers are still waiting for a firmware update that fixes the bugs and they have been waiting a very long time.

Go to:

http://www.hummy.org.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=74

to see the problems some people have been having.

Edit. Hmm, just been looking at the forum and it looks like they will soon (finally) release some sort of bug fix. More investigation now needed to see how successful the fix is and what bugs remain - I may buy one yet. :-)

Glad I held off then, quite happy with my SD 9300T for now
