Don't discount small independant electical shops - I never thought I would get one of these when my Toppy died 3 days beford Xmas - as well as the problem of getting a sat. dish erected but hubby was talking to the owner of a small shop in town, said what I was after and they actually had one in stock, came and installed the dish the next day and total cost was only £300 including a new dish and setting it all up, and for such quick service, and fitting it on Xmas eve too, I think I got a great deal.

That was an excellant deal for a £300 PVR & £75 standard installation :-D

Most independants that I've seen are selling just the units at the RRP of £299.99 excluding install and becasue stocks are so low Flea-Bayers are charging well over £300!

In stock at Argos if you want to pay £293.59, getting hold of these is a bit difficult at the moment, I had been waiting 2 months to get one.
Excellent price at £275.10 great find.

I finally got one of these from Argos last weekend, they are amazing, no more arguments over who is watching what and when and we found a work around on the not having a duel satellite cable.:-D

That's alright (for them) if you're in an area where you can get Freeview! We can't, nor are we projected to be able to receive it when they switch our transmitter off in May. Nor do we have cable TV facilities in our road.

A Freesat PVR is the only way forward for us, unless we want to pay Sky an inordinate amount of money every month for Sky+ and loads of channels we wouldn't watch (no kids, hate sport etc)!

Are you certain that was for this model WITH HD and PVR?

These things are £300 without a dish / installation and setup...

Can a Mod please unexpire this.

It's a pre-order thread and you can still pre-order so it has not expired.

Thanks,

There is an LNB-Out socket on the back of the Humax. I run an old $ky box off it at the same time as the Twin tuner Freesat.

You can also select FTA mode as well as Freesat mode on the Humax so you should pick up all FTA that a sky box can see as well, even if they are not in the Freesat EPG.

This box will also control motorised systems for access to other satellites and thousands upon thousands of other channels.

There are numerous others like this (HD and SD based) that are indeed good deals but aren't specifically Freesat based and therefore wont have direct access to the Freesat EPG.

According to Maplin they are not due any more stock until March despite the website saying 14 days so do bear this in mind when pre ordering. Got mine at Argos. Its also now available at Currys, Dixons and Comet who all have it in stock online (or did when I looked)

correction, just checked stock again, now only available in Comet

Demand is so high that most retailers sell out within hours of having stock. That's the reason (apart from price) that I started this thread, as pre-ordering is one way of getting hold of one when stock arrives.

Supplies generally are now beginning to increase though.

Very very unclued about this stuff so forgive me for being a dick, i have a normal virgin box getting tv large, if i had one of these could i do the recording, pausing, rewinding thing with this or do i splash out on a V+ box and give then robbing bleeps some more of my money?
Cheers in advance for any advice.

Virgin is using cable. This is satellite based using the same Astra satellites as $ky but with no contract or subsciption. Its also a good substitute for Freeview if reception is bad.

You can use an old $ky dish but to record cable you will need a Virgin+ box. I'm not clued up on cable as here in the sticks we've only just received electricity!!

The Sky fans will say the content isn't as good on Freesat but Sky subscriptions can soon add up to £40-50 a month. It's consumers prefernece at the end of the day so I'm not saying who is right or wrong. You pays your money (or not) and takes your choice, but a Sky HD+ box will cost £117* a year just to press the record button if you are not a paying sky customer.
.
*"Sky+ functionality requires a Sky+ subscription (free for Sky TV customers, or £9.75 pm) ."

hmm thanks looks like V+ box im getting good reviews about them.

I am voting very cold. Why? Not because of the box, not becuase of the price, but becuase who is selling it. There customer service for these pre-orders is shocking. If you want all of the detail then see the comments on
http://www.humaxfoxsat.co.uk/
I order from my myself during the middle of January when it was showing that stock wold be available within 7 days. 7days went buy, rang them and that they had loads of stock coming in at the very beginning of feb. Rang them back then and they said no stock until 16th March. In the meantime it is well documented that they did get some stock in and sold it to coustomers who weren't on the back order list!!!
Cancelled and went to John Lewis who then did something similar to me (although nowhere near quite as bad). Ordered a box from Argos on Friday nght for delivery on Tuesday. It has taken 4 weeks to get hold of one of these. The wait is finally almost up. If you want to get one quick don't use Maplins, you are likely to be disappointed.
