Isn't there only one hd channel on freesat? Personally I'm going to wait for some more and wait for the price to fall. Then I might get a pvr or a pc card instead to be able to record channels.
#3
This is the one for me,unfortunately I have to get mine from argos. When they have some in stock.Got a lot of vouchers to unload.

Very poor value for money, considering the tiny amount of HD channel (possibly channels) that will be available.
#5
No HDD = No Good as far as I'm concerned.
#6
Remember 3% quidco on this too.

So far there are 2 channels in HD (according to avfourms) - BBC HD and Luxe HD. Other HD channels will come on line soon (ITV HD will start on the red button).
#7
Once the HD channels start to roll out there will be more interest. I for one will be interested, but until then I dont see much point in buying this.
#8
Better off getting Sky HD.18 HD available there..Still no ITV though.

If people pay hundreds of pounds for a HD ready TV..then why not pay a little extra for the channels to go with it?

A little bit extra! lol I just spoke to sky tonight (left them last month), they offered me, £229 hd box inc install £65 for movies/sport pack inc £10 for HD and £10 multiroom.
So thats £1009 for this year alone. Will stick with my PS3 for HD content for the mo, just hope freesat takes off in a big way and Sky are brought down a peg or two.

hi all
my current plasma isnt hd ready as i bought it around 4 years ago
so has no hdmi sockets
but does have component that outputs 1080i
via my xbox360 and pinnacle showcenter 200
does any one if this has component out
as i think sky hd had it but they blocked it via a firmware update
something to do with copyright protection if my memory serves me correctly
just out of interest are any of you who have sky hd using the component out
regards
scoot

Nope I use the HDMI connection.

A1... some people ride bikes, others drive cars...
The choice is there.
Any of the Free HD channels that might air on this deal, are already/will be available for free on Sky.
Yes you need a box, but you do not need to subscribe to their packages.
The Sky HD box also records 2 channels at once, while if you wish, watching one already recorded..etc. Brilliant. Couldn't live without it..LOL.

I thought the Sky+ boxes reverted to being an STB only with no recording features if you cancelled your subscription or have they changed that now?
Humax are releasing a Freesat PVR which might well be more compelling than a SKY HD PVR. The Sky HD box seems to save a big chunk of its disk space for other features and you can’t use that space for recording programmes.
I’m not up to date with Sky so maybe their PVRs are more compelling these days.

10 million HD ready tv,s out there. One payment ,no subscription HD.Poor Rupert must be *hitting himself?Mind you he,s still got 500,000 Rockyfellas, but even some of them might wake up & think ..... Hey I,ve got a CHOICE here.
#14
Will be interested once there a few HD channels available as well as the box having a 500GB HDD or so to allow PVR functionality like my Topfield Freeview.
#15

LOL.. Yeah the choice of 1/2 (that's a half) HD freesat channels. Have you ever seen any HD TV. BBC starts at 8pm.
Versus 18 on Sky...
No brainer.:whistling:

Sorry, I forget... how many HD channels do Sky offer with no subscription?
Oh that's right it's none (that's none).
[Edit: Above is incorrect, see below - apologies]

You're right - it's a no brainer. :whistling:

I looked last night, it's currently two: BBC & 4.

Just wait 6 months to a year and it will be half this price and a lot more channels.

I stand corrected then.
I thought you had to have a HD subscription Sky to get HD channels.

I hope so. It seems premature to buy now as there’s little HD content, the hardware is basic, expensive and new (potentially buggy). I might take a look at this towards the end of the year though when PVRs are out and hopefully the content is expanded.

"Channel 4 HD is available without any subscriptions. Sky HD box, HD-ready TV and valid viewing card required."

Likewise - I'll wait for the Humax Freesat HD PVR to be released (July I believe) and take a view on it then.

Five & ITV HD available soon

The Wii was selling at full RRP and more but it didn't stop threads about it...and people wanting to buy it.

At present - if you want one - it seems that Comet could be the best place to buy as other places either haven't got them or are insisting that you buy an installation package at the same time.

Pre 6/8 .There was no choice . Now there is for HD content. Those that want to line the pockets of News International do so by all means, but this will be one in the eye for sky!
#28
LMAO....

Do you make all your own clothes, and grow all your own food as well? LOL.

Or do you line the pockets of the imperialistic superstores....LOL.

We're only here once, if it means spending cash to enjoy yourself then do it now..next year might be too late.

South west water,a monopoly = licence to print money = not in the consumers interest.First great western trains etc...Spending cash to enjoy yourself is good,Getting ripped off by ***** because there is no alternative...........no brainer!

Who told you there was no choice? BBC HD was FTA for a long time. And this is also true for most of "Freesat" channels apart frim x4 (E4, More4 and C4). AFAIR, those channels were FTA for at least 6 years.

But until this was officially released the only way to get HD was through a Sky subscription (v expensive and minimum 12 months) or to buy a Sky HD box from ebay for £200+
#32
Not quite. BBC HD was FTA for at least a year (not sure if it was since its launch), you could just buy a sat box (from Maplins, for example) and watch it. No need for subscription.
#33
OK, I stand corrected. But, I guess the big difference then is the availability: Being able to go to Comet and Currys and Argos for their valuable, impartial and knowledgable advice

LOL. I like you sense of humour :)
But I agree - so far Maplin was the only high-street chain who dared to sell satellite equipment (apart from occasional Lidl/Netto/Aldi offerings). I am just surprised on why when someone posted a deal here on sat stuff, people referred to it as something "geeks only", but now everyone is talking Freesat, which is effectively the same thing.
#35
Apparently there are quite a few problems with the Humax box according to digital spy forum. Will be interesting to see how the other boxes get on.

But good to see that Humax Support are keeping an eye on the forum and some problems have been corrected already.

Don't forget, you don't just need a Box, you need a dish as well :whistling:

There again for those too tight to spend out on a dish, if you wait 'till 2012 then HD will be available through your aerial, if it's good enough.
