Humax FreeviewHD STB - £99.97 @ Tesco Direct

£99.97 @ Tesco Direct
Not a bad price for a Humax! £160 on Argos' website. Clubcard Points and Quidco too..... putting the argos price is misleading as amazon is £100.97. - hajj_3

£100 for a TV tuner! You’re all mad and I don’t care that it’s HD.
I can’t imagine watching live TV apart from the occasional sporting fixture especially on commercial stations with the advert breaks. That’s so last century.

Tuner?

It's a tuner and decoder. Decoding 1080i video can't be done by a hampster.

If you plug a external HDD into it it works as a excellent single tuner PVR.

Can the recording be copied to PC or DVD to be watched elsewhere, such a DVD player or PC?

I believe there's a form of DRM, which means you can only playback the recording via the Humax device.

Currently both SD and HD recordings are encrypted and can only be played back on the same box - though they can be moved to another drive for archiving if you use a powered USB hub. The next firmware release may allow unencrypted exporting of SD programs.

A hampster is a hamster spelt incorrectly, they can't decode 1080i video either. :)

So it’s not completely useless then. :)
When you can buy a 500GB twin tuner HD PVR for £200 I fail to see the value in a tuner/decoder for £100.

I thought maybe the added P meant they were 1080P compatible. X)
