Two on the shelf in Tesco at Huntingdon this afternoon. Yellow ticket price reduction to £89. Brand new - not ex-display or returns. My guess is that this will be nationwide.

Got them in Broughton Tesco, also had the Technika HD box for £180, down £20..

How the hell is this a hot deal? Its not nationwide and the Tesco that did have them has sold out as someone off here has been in here and bought the last one.

Cold Cold Cold

Would have been hot for people who live near Huntingdon, as Mr Gus will attest!

couldnt agree more - tend to not bother with these tesco deals - pricing in Tesco is rarely nationwide it seems...

Does it really matter if a deal is only available where you don't live? Maybe we should vote to exclude any deal that isn't nationwide? Maybe we should also vote to exclude any deal that isn't available in big enough quantities that everyone who wants one can get one?

This is a deal site and this is a deal even if only 1 person benefits from such a listing and we have reasonable proof that, in this case, at least 1 person did benefit.

So what's the problem?

The problem is, by your logic, that on the assumption that nearly every deal will benefit one person then nearly every deal ought to go hot.

It's personal interpretation and variety of opinion that ensures the truly hot deals stand out.

Maybe I should post deals from my local corner shop as I will be the only one to benefit from them but it doesn't seem to matter as by your definition that's a hot deal.

Still stone cold

I understand the argument above, but on the evidence above the price has been confirmed at two branches and not confirmed at another branch that had none in stock anway. The device is no longer listed by Humax except as graded items, so it looks like Tesco are reducing the price to clear a discontinued item where stock remains.
#13
Grade A ones are £99 from Humax. I know not brand new but still a years warranty. If anyone is deperate and Tescos dont have

Not possible. These HD Boxes have only been out for about a year.

Humax do still sell this box new but only as part of a bundle including a 160Gb external drive to make use of the recording features that a recent firmware update enabled.

I've had two in the last 9 months. Green screen of death. It's well documented on the Humax forums.

Just picked this up from the Lea Valley branch of Tesco Extra in North London. Cracking deal and cracking picture. Just in time, as I'm ditching my Virgin V+ box next month.

IMHO yes you should post a decent deal from your local shop. Who's to say that there is no one on here that lives within a sensible detour to that shop?

I would also guess that a lot of the deals that go hot are voted hot just because it's a great price, the voter has no actual interest in buying the item listed - just look at all of the car deals posted. Voting hot for a really cheap price is particularly true of items where many have commented in the listing that it must be a pricing error.

If you don't think that's the whole point of this site then I'm afraid you've missed the point entirely.

Or are you suggesting that, being a bloke, I shouldn't have an opinion on anything that is of interest to the ladies even if its 'the deal of the century'.

Surely not, although I suspect you do.
#21
I don't think something can be hot if there are just a couple in the country at that price. It's misleading and sends people out on a wild goose chase. It's not the fault of the OP though, it's just the way people vote, either they like the product, find the thread funny, they have one, vote without finding out the supply...Perhaps products should only be aloud to get hot when a certain number of verified countrywide example are listed!

I think that you may have endorsed my point, purely by accident! Of course I think that people should vote based on the value of something but not based on how many of that something are available. If a shop in Aberdeen is closing down and has a just couple of items on sale at half the price they are anywhere else in the UK that makes a deal, even though I happen to live in Land's End. Therefore this Humax deal should be judged to be deal if the price is good even though there were only a couple available.

Why on earth not? What would you say if the offer was nationwide but your local branch had sold out and the next branch was too far away for you to get to?

People choose to vote things hot that they never have any intention of buying because as you suggest they find the listing funny or they have the item themselve but you seem to be suggesting that there has to be a number available across the country before it's listed?

No way, items are voted hot for a million reasons, not all of which are rational but if someone posted something on here that you really wanted and it was only in stock at a bargain price in their local shop and you discovered that their local shop was actually local to you too, I would suggest you would be chuffed to know about it and would rush out with your money in hand hoping you got to the shop before the item sold out.

We've had Humax boxes for several years now, none of the problems of sky+ boxes..
Cannot praise them enough TBH
& you get to speak to abritish human being within seconds of calling for help if needed!.

Then there should be a separate vote for supply, supply and demand! This would help alleviate the wild goose chase scenario.

Just got the last one at Port Glasgow, so yes it is available in other stores, the shelf edge was still full price but if you have half a brain you would take the item to the tills to price check. So thank you to the poster for making this offer known to me.

One of these still on the shelf at Hampton, Peterborough this afternoon. The shelf price was £120+, but anyone who's interested might like to check at the till, as bleachershane did (post #26 above).
#29
Just picked up one of these from the Corstorphine, Edinburgh branch so these do exist and it comes down to whether you are lucky enough to have a Tesco near you with stock.

Thanks OP, keep on posting and ignore those who are moaning.

Two more on the shelf @ Huntingdon 10am Thursday, so they're still around.

managed to get one at Borehamwood. It was marked up at £129 but when I asked it was £89. Assistant told me that it did not come with an HDMI cable but it certainly did. There were at least 6 more there on Tuesday.

I strongly disagree with this way of thinking and it's why such crappy non existent deals get posted.
This is a site for the majority - not a select few of lucky sods.

Let's not forget that the doubters were wrong on this occasion. The deal is nationwide, many people have taken advantage of it and some are still posting duplicates.

One on the shelf at Hampton, Peterborough, on Thursday evening 31/03. Priced @ £89.
