Be sure to check whether you are able to receive Freeview HD in your area!

Super recorder, even without HD, better with of course.
I've had mine for six months and wouldn't be without it.

You can check if Freeview HD is at your address via this link (option 1)

Voted hot and agree with the op, i think that this box was around the £300.00 price point, albeit for a new and not a graded box
#5
Nice price for a good HD box with a decent size drive, heat given.

Put simply, does this mean that it will play programmes from the BBC iplayer?

The Peter Tyson website says that this box is also to get access to the Sky Player. Is that possible?

Sky Player is "coming soon" according to Humax.
#13
Will these accept a 3rd party image? Something similar to the VU +Duo?

Sky player will be added to the T.V. portal soon, However it is subscription only, It is not possible to record or view an external video signal e.g. via scart

For the avoidance of any doubt, as per the OP, this particular deal only has a 1 year Humax Warranty due to its Grade A status.

great piece of kit. Sky player is not great imo. expensive and a lot of programmes not available, i.e. when simpsons is on you get a not available message.
#17
Was looking at these (along with the Foxsat) but the lack of recording from the buffer really put me off, and haven't read that Humax ever fixed it. (Basically record from start of watching rather than when you push record button)
#18
i heard a few months back that there will be an upgrade to allow recorded films on this box to be transmitted to another Humax Set Top box so you can watch it another room.

Anyone heard if this update has been released yet?
#19
I'd be interested if it had a larger hard drive...HD takes up more space so 500gb is far too small for storing your favourite progs....dare say you could purchase a larger drive and fleebay the one fitted.
#20
but the lack of recording from the buffer really put me off

I thought it had a continual 2 hour recording buffer?
#21
is it possible to record ps3 or xbox vidoes on to this?
#22
Wonder why Humax don't have the confidence to give a 2 year warranty on "A" grade equipment?

I really want one of these but have to wait to see if TopupTV release a suitable CAM for receiving Skysports.

It has, I just did it after reading the comment from Cozworth806.
You do need to rewind to the beginning of the programme you want to record, I imagine that also applies to other recorders.
#24
Maybe good but much too expensive.
Time there was some competition in the market place.

I don't think it's anything to do with confidence, like most other manufacturers they offer a bog-standard 2-year warranty on new Humax products, so they aren't going to offer the same warranty period for graded products.

I've already got a Humax standard freeview PVR, so I'm waiting patiently for that too.... hopefully it will happen!

It is possible to record the two hour buffer and add it to 'future' program, I did it yesterday ! !

No lol
#28
We bought one and it lost its signals by and by until it became a useless box. Returned Monday.

It is not possible to record anything other than from the T.V. aerial input, However it is possible to play video files such as AVI, MKV etc. from the USB socket or after copying the files to the hard disk via USB or LAN connector.
#30
so this could be better than a boxee box, if you can store and play files from HDD

!!
#31
seems good shame about the warranty
#32
I have had the 9200t for a number of years and despite a number of different problems with it, I have been very pleased with what it does. Realise we now have a 500gb disk but apart from this is there any other reason I should upgrade at quite a high cost. I'm not a techy and would appreciate some clarity on the benefits. Thankyou...........
#33
Could you not just buy this one for £99: http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10101&cat=Factory

Then with the £150 change buy 2x2TB drives for it? Not an all-in-1 solution, but 8x the storage and more versatility.
#34
This seems expensive for a refurbished product - personally I'd rather pay the extra £40 or so and get a brand new one. I know there's a years warranty with it, but if it's been returned as faulty once already I'd not be happy spending that much on it.
#35
You can upgrade the hard drive up to 2TB - but it takes a little bit of knowledge ... details on avforums I believe. ;)
#36
Hmm if I downgrade my sky subsciption to Sky freeview, would this this be able to work through my dish and record progs? Thanks for any responses.

No, It's not a satellite receiver, It receives signals from a T.V. aerial

The device you suggested only provides a single tuner PVR with an attached hard drive.:(
But if you can live with that limitation then your suggestion is a cheaper way to go. Nice of Humax to release an update for this PVR functionality.

You can use your existing Sky dish (that's what I did) but you will ideally need to update it to a dual LNB if it isn't already dual. I upgraded mine from single to dual quite cheaply with an dual LNB and cable purchased off Ebay.
The Humax box you need is not the one in this deal. The box needed is :
Humax FOXSAT HDR500 (500gb although 1tb also available)
If you don't mind a smaller drive then there is a 320gb (I own this one) manager Garde 'A' special on Humax site here : Freesat 320gb Humax Grade A

The very reason I purchased a HDR for the lounge and a HD for the bedroom. Apparently was available to some extent in the recent beta but then removed. Various rumours about the streaming of High Def recordings being restricted however I'd be upset if this was the case between two bits of kit made by the same manufacturer o the same home network. Never had a reply from Humax as to when this will happen. The single tuner FOX HD T2 is yet to receive the Portal update. The AV and Digital Spy forums are a good source of information. Be prepared that some folk will defend the FOX no matter what the competition are doing.
