I recently paid £86 from Humax Direct for one of these refurbs, which is still a good price. Deal went to 281oC.

If these grade A's are the same as Humax direct then they arrive looking like a new product.

Yup that's what I said. £69.97 delivered to store or an extra £5 for home delivery.

Says 120Gb in the spec.

But anyway, I've got two Humax boxes, a Freesat one and a Freeview recorder, and both were grade A refurbs but both new as far as I could see, and damn fine machines they are too. Well worth £75 inc for this one.

best there is!!

Can you tell me if they are noisy? E.G. does the hard disc run all the time or just when recording? Is there a fan inside? Thanks in advance.

Mine is the HDMI version with 320Gb HD (PVR9300T) and it is very quiet indeed. I was a little worried about reports of fan noise etc but read in several places that a firmware update had sorted that out. In any case, it isn't an issue at all, neither is HD noise. It has a couple of odd moments and mildly irritating things but all in all it is a great box.

I also read that you should try it using scart rather than HDMI as the picture is better for some people's set up. I have to say it was for me as good as HDMI (not sure it was better) which allowed me to free up one HDMI socket. Which was nice.

In standby its silent and when in use there's a small amount of noise.

I do apologise, my last paragraph waffles on about my box, I forgot the topic was for the 9150, where scart is the preferred option, for it is indeed the only one.

I have the 9300T which is the same generation as this and it’s very quiet and believe me I’m very fussy; I returned another PVR due to the noise and most people would probably have found that one okay. Just make sure it has the latest firmware as Humax do play around with fan settings over time.

The HDD spins down when it’s off as does the fan. It’s quiet enough for bedroom usage which is a very big compliment from me.
To put things in perspective how fussy I am about noise I currently have a Dell Mini 1012 as it is fanless because I was fed up with the fan noise of all the laptops I tested.

I have one. It's temperamental, buggy and the interface & remote are badly designed.

Have you downloaded the latest firmware ?
#13
I got one of these in July and have had nothing but trouble with it even with the lastest firmware updated. I've had to switch my mains plug off twice tonight , it constantly misses programs to record and from time to time when I ff through adverts it goes straight back to the beginning of the program. I'm going to return it for another brand as there seems to be a lot of folk with similar issues. Not voting either way but I'd advise against buying this model

With the firmware released 18 months ago, it addressed the fan noise problem. This is very quiet and you won't hear it. Missing programs isn't the fault of the humax, but the broadcasters sending the wrong times. It usually happens on certain channels (Channel 4 programs for example always seem to overrun). Great price for a Humax, but the 9300t has HDMI, bigger harddrive and upscales (If you have an HDTV).

Also the Harddrive on this will be 160gb (Enough room for 100 hours TV).
#15
If the cause of it missing programs isn't the fault of the machine but of the broadcasters then why does my parents sagem pvr not miss the same programs also the ff and rewind fault is unforgivable. When playing back a recording at times it gets very pixilated and causes lip sync issues and has to be stopped then restarted to clear it up and also on 3 occasions in the last 2 months it's recorded with no audio so there is a definate fault with this machine and not down to the broadcast

i add the sim card with free delivery but tesco still try to charge £5 for delivery of the pvr. how do i select to group the two items as i can't find it!

One thing that really annoys me about the Humax 9300 (so possibly this one too) is that every time you do a firmware update, you lose ALL your recording schedule - so if you record every episode of something (like Sky+ series link), you lose that and will have to remember to find all those series again and replace them. Everything previously recorded is safely left alone, it's all future progs and series that you planned to record that will now not be, unless you go through and record each one AGAIN. That's a real pain and so unnecessary, you would have thought.

Having had Sky+ previously, one of the small things that irritates me (maybe I am alone on this one) is the lack of a 8x picture search. When trying to FF to the start of part 2 of something I find 4x way too slow and the next one is 16x which I find way too fast :D

There's an advert skip function under the front remote slider, If I remember correctly you can set it for so may seconds (30/45/60) skip per press. A couple of presses and the adverts are gone

Are the people who say they have 'issues' with their Humax, not only running the lastest firmware version, but more importantly, doing a default reset whenever the software changes?

It's common knowledge that you can expect to experience odd happenings UNLESS you do a reset - and that doesn't just mean turn it off/on again at the mains. You will find the reset option in the menu settings - it clears old instruction/memory settings for the operating system, which can otherwise behave oddly if there has been an upgrade to a particular area.

BTW, resetting will not clear your recorded programmes.

We run three of the older Humax 9200 models in this house and they are just fantastic bits of kit :)

Good price.

exactly! so your post is basically moot. Just get it fixed lol
#26
if you miss some of the recording (start or end) you can pad the recording, I usually add a few minutes to the start and end. If you do this though you lose the series record option. I thinks its a brill recorder for the price.

They are also easy to use, my Mom has one so they have to be!
#27
Humax , Dont accept any less :)
#28
We have two Humax's one being a freest. They are brilliant very little noise at all and the really good thing is the updates. We registered on the website and they email us every time there is an update due. We had a Bt vision box which was rubbish and kept crashing and we also had a pioneer which was better but the user interface on the Humax is easy to use and far superior to the Pioneer. This price is a steal.
#29
Excellent, exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks OP, have some heat :)
#30
This is an amazing price on one of the few PVRs that works really well.

We have no less than 5 Humax boxes within our family, including an early single tuner 8000T which still runs fine (albeit with a major HDD upgrade!). Even the 85 year old grandma can use her 9150T OK!

Don't forget that these now have series record which transforms PVR usefulness IMO.

They must be clearing a load of these (Humax grade 'A's are generally unused surplus stock and so are as new.) with the new Freeview HD boxes having arrived.
#31
Can't resist at this price.

Don't forget 4% Quidco.
#32
This has had a firmware update this month , check the DTV site or set the machine to auto update .

Don't forget to do a full reset .

Do these update firmware 'over the air' or via PC?
